Anthology - I only remember one specific story - guy loses job and whole life falls apart

I remember reading this short story collection at my cousin's house years ago (probably about 2013 or so) but only remember one specific story. It was about this guy who starts the story young, promising, and hopeful, but after he goes for a job and someone (somewhat mysteriously) replaces him, he can't hold down any job and is extremely unlucky, failing in every aspect of his life, until at the very end, he is homeless and alone and he dies.

I remember the entire anthology had that strange, eerie quality to it.

Maybe The Acid House by Irvine Welsh? Your description sounds a little like "The Granton Star Cause" from that.

I don't remember the job he applied for but I think it was some kind of office job. There were definitely fanciful elements and themes of back luck and fate but since I can't remember any of the other short stories, I can't speak for the whole book. There were multiple authors, I'm pretty sure
