Nova | 2 comments The main character gets caught in a dangerous steampunk-style world that looks akin to London, complete with a Big Ben. I think I remember the main character being male, and it was in young adult fiction. There were mechanical creatures that were dangerous, and I believe the main character got to this world through either a train or a subway station. The cover was very distinct with a peculiar texture where you could feel the picture on the front. The edges of the book were black, and it was a thick, square book. Inside, it had the occasional picture that looked like a rough black-and-white sketch. I read it sometime around 2014-15

The Atroxious | 12 comments It's not an exact match to your description, but Malice by Chris Wooding is a book with a peculiar texture (the hardback is, anyway) with comic pages that look like rough sketches with black borders interspersed amongst the prose. It also has the main character reaching the world through a subway and meeting mechanical creatures.

Nova | 2 comments Awesome! It is Malice. I was getting it confused with another book. Thank you so much!

The Atroxious | 12 comments Glad to help. Chris Wooding is my favorite author, and I've read Malice more times than I can count, so it's nice finding someone else who remembers the book.
