Just saw this interesting video, giving an explanation as to why modern 'chart topping' pop music, from the last 30 years or so, has been largely cack. Some interesting revelations I wasn't aware of before, but whilst I can't say that ALL modern music is rubbish, the stuff that plagues the chart mostly certainly is. It's quite an eye opener...or should that be, ear opener?! :)

Good video. He didn't mention the curse of streaming algorithims - hey! Like that; we think you'll like this cos it sounds the same.

In one way this trend is a return to something that happened in the 50s especially. An artist would make a single, then they'd make another which had more or less the same backing track. That didn't span across dozens of artists though, and usually wasn't repeated more than that single instance (with a very small number of exceptions).

It answers a lot though..I now finally understand what compressed music is. When I first read about that, I did wonder, why are they trying to squash a song?! :)

Mind you, this idea that folks in the music industry, implying that 'we' all feel more comfortable listening to music that sounds the same....well....they don't know me! I hate the same old same old.....so..who's really to blame here? The music producers pumping out the same old cack day in day out, or.....the people who buy their shite?!

I guess that's why I choose to follow small independent labels then!

Not sure I quite believe that most of the pop hits of the last 30 years, has been written by just two blokes though......that's a bit of stretch, me thinks. But at least we know who came up with that annoying 'Millennium whoop'...Jeez.....I hate that....."Wa oh Oh" Argghhhh!
