Liam by Kimber White
Series: Mammoth Forest Wolves #1
Shelf: Kindle Freebie
Read: 16 Nov
Rating: ✮✮✮½
My Review:
Liam's book introduces us to Kimber White's Mammoth Forest Wolves. The group consists of five strong, alpha wolf shifters (Liam, Jagger, Mac, Gunnar, and Payne) hiding from their former power-obsessed, controlling Alpha. The men fled for different reasons, but all wish to break away from "Chief Pack Alpha" and his rules. He will not allow any Kentucky shifter to freely choose their mate. "Choose" being used loosely here as this is a fated mate story. So, essentially, their former Alpha decided who could mate with whom no matter if they were fated or not. Certain human women are shifter mates, the Chief Pack Alpha "chooses" to mate them with his generals so he can become more powerful.
Liam and his mates are all likable, as is his fated mate, Molly. I liked the idea of townspeople aware of others but still being, for the most part, a closed-world. This was a quick read and I enjoyed it, but I kinda felt like there should've been a bit more backstory. It needs a prequel to show life prior to the five fleeing and more details on the Chief Pack Alpha's power over others, IMO. Nevertheless, because I liked all of the characters and have some interest in finding out what happens to each, I'll probably continue on with the series at some point.

Sometimes slow build really can be the best because you actually start caring about the relationship

Title/Author: Wait for Me by Elisabeth Naughton
Series: Against All Odds #1
Date Read: 11/18/2018
Shelf: Kindle Freebie
Pages: 266
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Review: This was a good ole mystery with murder & romance... Kate Alexander loses her Dr. husband in a plane crash and discovers a picture and suspicious bills in his paperwork that sends her from her home in Texas to San Francisco for answers. She doesn't remember anything prior to a few years ago after awaking from a coma following a car crash about 5 years ago. After moving her son Reed to California, she starts to investigate and her hired lawyer recognizes her as Annie, the presumed dead wife of a super rich and successful pharmaceutical exec, Ryan. He has a few anger issues at first, but a DNA test quickly determined that she is he "dead" wife and son. Kate also learns that the picture she has is her 9 year old daughter who is not happy with mommy's return... The re-kindling of the love and family was nice. The secondary characters Mitch, her brother and Ryan's BFF was my favorite part. Other plots and parts were just a little far fetch and too coincidental, but it was a freebie. I am kind of interested in Mitch and Simone's story...

A Hidden Fire
by Elizabeth Hunter
Date 11/20/2018
Pages: 437
Shelf: Kindle Freebie
Stars: 3
Review: I'm giving it three stars mainly because of the companions. The two mains were fine as far as that goes, although I didn't find Gio that interesting. The problem is I was bored throughout the entire book and it didn't grab me. I'm also not keen on the angst romances where the hero lets go instead of chasing with determination. The beginning took way too long to get to the heart of the story - it was about 36% in before it really started.

Yeah, I liked the characters but couldn't get into the story much. Not horrible, though!

Happy Shelf Day!

It actually took me awhile to pick up the second book. I think I eventually needed a book with a book on the cover. It really picks up in that second book.

Happy Shelf Day!"
Have fun! Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
For warrior, I think I'll circle back and check out

Happy Shelf Day!"
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!! Yay! Looks like we finally get four in a row...
I am going with

My friend loaned me three of the books and I've had them forever. The reviews are mixed but I'm holding out hope!

So, now we're hoping Raunchy gets called? Fun times. :)
My library loan came in for In Bed With a Highlander, so I'll make sure I've got that done in time for the next shelf. One of these weeks soon there's going to be a rush.

Fated by Rebecca Zanetti
Series: Dark Protectors #1
Shelf: warrior
Read: 25 Nov
Rating: ✮✮✮½
Review:
Fated introduces us to Zanetti's Dark Protectors. Talen and his four brothers are protectors of the Sanguisuga (Vampire) race. Their mates are human. When Talen finds his in Cara, a scientist specializing in plant genetics and single mother of an adorable, four-year-old, powerful psychic, he takes what he wants.
There had been a treaty between the Sanguisuga and the Kurjans following hundreds of years of war, however finding Cara and her daughter Janie has changed things. The Kurjans are once again hunting human women, Talen and his brothers will do all they can to stop them.
My first read of Zanetti's was her spin-off intro, Wicked Ride, so I was anxious to start at the beginning. To be honest, I found myself more interested in some of Talen's brothers, the shifters and Cara's daughter more so than Talen and Cara's "romance". I will continue with the series and look forward to learning more about Janie, the war and the other couples to come.

How it fits: Shelved Warrior by 6 people
Review: I quite enjoyed this one. I loved watching the civilizing affect Mairan had on Ewan. He's always going to be gruff, but he began to consider her feelings and not care how it made him look to his clan. Overall, it was a delightful time spent in the Scottish Highlands, and I'll definitely read more from this author.

Title/Author: Hunting Season by Shelly Laurenston
Series: The Gathering #1
Date Read: 11/28/2018
Shelf: Shelf - Warrior
Pages: 267
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review: This is another hit from SL that follows Neecy Lawrence, a reincarnated drug dealer turned Crow by her goddess Skuld, when she was murdered by her boyfriend. She is being heavily pursued by one of Odin's Ravens, Willhem Yager a 6'7" Viking stud muffin and a very nice guy. She isn't having any of it... Neecy is an independent, snarky, bad a$$ chick that is in second command of the Crows that fights baddies at night... But is also a history professor by day and doesn't want a nice guy for more than to scratch an itch, one time. That 24 hour sex fest backfires... and Yager's persistence slowly pays off in between battles, sarcasm and shenanigans of her fellow Crows and his Ravens. This is a typical SL book with snark, funny but crude remarks and moments and the interaction and banter between the H and h is entertaining. I was hesitant starting this one since this is the first and only a book in the series and doesn't look like there is going to be a follow up one. So it's kind of a standalone but similar mythology as her Call of Crows series. I would definitely continue with any of her books, they are always a fun read.
