Title/Author: Total Surrender by Rebecca Zanetti
Series: Sin Brothers #4
Date Read: 9/17/2018
Shelf: Military
Pages: 384
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review: This is the final book in Rebecca Zanetti's Sin Brothers series and it was a great build up and finish for this storyline. Without being too spoilery, the Dean (Gray) brothers time is almost up and the chips that are implanted in their spine by "The Commander" are set to explode if they are not reset or removed in time. Enter computer hacker Piper as she is brought in to use her computer skills to fix the damaged chip that is implanted in the current brother in custody. Fights, smexy scenes and a whole lot of brotherly love make this a good series... A covert military project, where the Commander has created genetically enhanced boys thru a top secret breeding program to create the ultimate super soldiers that he considers his property. Add in twenty+ years of abuse and training with his brilliant but psycho sidekick Dr. Madison and you get the ultimate Alpha male characters. These soldiers with secret enhancements, their smart & sassy heroines for these rebellious men. The missions and resources get a little far fetched, but still super entertaining. Similar to Feehan's Ghostwalker series, but a little better... Left a slight cliff hanger that could definitely be the start of a new spinoff series, will just have to patiently wait and see...
If you have not tried any books from Rebeca Zanetti yet, I have loved her vampire / demon series, her apocalyptic series and this military one too. All good stuff!!

Master of Solitude by Cherise Sinclair
Series: Mountain Masters / Dark Haven #8
Shelf: Military
Read: 17 Sept 2018
Rating: ✮✮✮½
Review :
Master of Solitude tells the story of Sawyer Ware and Mallory McCabe in Bear Flat, California. Mallory is the rare "no rough past" character. While she's friends with those in the lifestyle, she doesn't participate. Sawyer was recently released from prison and the reason has put him, his brother and those they love in danger. Mallory is one who cannot and will not stand by when another is in danger, nor will Sawyer. When their paths cross Sawyer gets the wrong impression. Mallory, who can see auras, knows he's struggling with something but until he opens up she cannot help.
“Oh, Sawyer, love is simply a feeling, not a Yuletide gift exchange. Like warmth from the sun, it simply exists and won’t disappear…even if the recipient protests.”The author notes, "... this story is for the lifestylers who reminded me that not every submissive has had a rough past." It was a nice change. I love Cherise's writing, her characters and their stories. As much as it pains me to say, I had some serious issues with Mr. Ware. So many of his actions did not ring true to me. Granted, he's been through a lot and has rationalized his reasons for everything, but I just couldn't buy it. Much of the time he chose to take matters into his own hands when his brother is a cop, he was a Navy SEAL and constantly bemoaned no longer having a team at his back. He's surrounded by others willing and able to help, but no - alone he goes.
Stop Petting My Peeves, Please. Authors do a lot of research for their books, or so I would imagine, yet so very many use the wrong Marine Corps battle cry. Yes, the USMC is a Department of the Navy, but they have their very own battle cry. Google. Easy & Done. Rant over.
CORRECT: "Oorah"
INCORRECT: "Hooyah" = Navy; "Hooah" = Army

Happy reading, y'all!

Shelf #1 ~ Military : Un-Finished ~ 1/4 Complete ~ Not Stamped
Laura - This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman..."
Looking at those covers, I have to say, "One of these things is not like the others"! :)
I should have mine done in a few days. Probably not before the new shelf call, but I did start listening yesterday. Audios take me longer than print/ebooks.

Well, if the shelf gods cooperate, I can read

Shelf #2 ~ 19/9/18: Favorites

For favorites, I'll be reading:

PS: I've finished my FS book; really enjoyed it, more so than I'd expected. I'll post my review soon.

Book:

Date Read: 9/20
Rating: 4 stars
How it fits: Shelved Favorites too many times to count
Review: What a great start to a new sub-series! I'm so glad there's more to come. I enjoyed the brief cameo appearance by Cat & Bones, but Vlad and Leila were the real stars here. I can't wait to read more of their story!

Book:

Date Read: 9/20
Rating: 5 stars
How it fits: Shelved Military by 4 people
Review: I was so happy when I found that Amie Kaufman didn't stop with the Illuminae books! She's got a new writing partner here, but the results are nearly as good. Tarver & Lilac make a few appearances, but Flynn & Lee (AKA Romeo & Juliet) are the true stars in this entry. I can't wait to read book 3 and see the bad guys get what's coming to them.

Wild Hunger by Chloe Neill
Series: Heirs of Chicagoland #1
Shelf: Free Space (found on SOS bookshelf)
Read: 19 Sept 2018
Rating: ✮✮✮✮☆
Review:
Wild Hunger is the first in Neill's Chicagoland Vampires spin-off, which takes place twenty-three years after the finale, Blade Bound. Elisa Sullivan, Ethan and Merit's daughter, has spent the last four years in Paris attending École Dumas, Europe’s only university for supernaturals. She's enjoyed the anonymity she found while living in France. Now, she's heading back to Chicago and escorting European delegates to the peace talks Chicago's houses are hosting. Peace has reigned in Chicago since Elisa's birth, but that's not the case in Western Europe.
“There are some decisions that we make, and some that are made for us. Sometimes you accept the path that’s offered to you, and you live that path—that life—with grace. And sometimes you push forward, and you chart your own path. That decision is yours. It’s always been yours.”I enjoyed this introduction more than I'd expected. I was worried it might be too similar to the first series. While there are similarities in banter, Elisa and Connor Keene, Gabriel's son, are well-developed characters with their own stories to be told. It was interesting seeing Ethan and Merit as parents and less involved in the city's troubles, per their arrangement with the mayor and new Ombudsman. I found Lulu Bell, Mallory's daughter, to be more of a carbon copy than Elisa of Merit, yet she's also an interesting character who has a story to tell. And, of course, the relationship between Elisa and Connor is one I look forward to following.

Me, too! I love to hate him, but I liked him in Home for the Holidays.

Title/Author: Dragon Bites by
Series: Stormwalker #6
Date Read: 9/20/2018
Shelf: Shelf - Free Space - How this fits: Series found on Best of Urban Fantasy list
Pages: 288
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review: This is the sixth book in the Stormwalker series and follows Janet, Maya and an unplanned sister Gabrielle on a girls trip to Vegas. Of course Janet can't have a normal fun trip of buffets, slots and male strippers... No crazy happens! So another battle against something worse than anything before yadda, yadda... This has multiple POVs and primarily Janet and Gabrielle, which really helps with Gabrielle character after being in her head. Not a lot of smexy moments, but we get to catch up with several characters in the Stormwalker universe. Felt like too long of a wait for this one, but happy to be able visit this world again.

Here Be Sexist Vampires by Suzanne Wright
Shelf: Favorites
Read: 22 Sept 2018
Rating: ✮✮✮✮☆
Review:
The title Here Be Sexist Vampires accurately describes the vampires Sam Parker finds herself surrounded by when attending tryouts for the Grand High Master's private army/legion. She was invited and proves herself in excellent control of her abilities, yet she's not chosen ... not for the position originally suspected. She's so in control of her abilities that she's been chosen for a higher position, one that finds her working with the most arrogant Commander Jared Michaels.
“Listen, this isn’t a cheerleading squad. You don’t get points for being pretty. It’s some serious shit which is why a girl has never been accepted, and never will be. There’s no place for a female in the legion.”The vampires that Suzanne Wright created come in three breeds: Pagori, Keja, and Sventé (Sam's breed). The Sventé lack the beauty, super strength and speed of the other two, additionally they are most likely to walk among humans because they are in better control of bloodlust. Their weaknesses are just another reason Sam's not immediately respected. However, she has a special ability, one uncommon among her breed. It doesn't take long for her to impress those under her command and change the prejudiced minds of those who couldn't initially see beyond her breed and sex.
As with all of this author's series, I am hooked! This was obviously one of the author's first series and self-published, so it wasn't as polished as her shifter series (Phoenix and Mercury pack). Nevertheless, I love the characters she creates, the strong females and I look forward to reading more about her vamps.

We now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'free space'.
[Our updated BINGO card can be viewed on page 1]
Woohoo!! :D

Sorry I'm slacking on the military book, it's been stressful. I'm almost done with We have always lived in the castle and should hopefully be done with that one tomorrow. I will finish both this week before the weekend and be caught up.

Must also apologize for being a bad teammate this week... I am behind on my favorites book, hoping to get some reading time in between games and practices. On a good note my daughters Volleyball team is 7-0, so we are half way to another section title.... woot woot!

I'm gonna continue on with Suzanne Wright's series I started with my 'favorites' choice and read

Review: Unique, twisted and odd! It's definitely not a book that's forgettable. Sometimes it tried my patience but overall I liked it, including the ending.

Title/Author: Claimed in Shadows by Lara Adrian
Series: Midnight Breed
Date Read: 9/28/2018
Shelf: Shelf - Own-it - How this fits: one person had it shelved, bless them
Pages: 300
Rating: ★★★1/2☆
Review: This book follows the other Chase twin Aric, a rare day walker who is temporarily in Montreal on a special mission for the Order. Kaya is also called in for this mission with her breedmate ability to read minds with touch contact. Kaya and Aric are sent in undercover to discover what the groom is up to and discovers he's a small fish in the latest plot of Opus Nostrum, who's trying to rid the world of the Breed. Every attempt by the warriors to defeat ON is thwarted and they realize they have an inside mole. Kaya becomes suspect because she's keeping secrets from her past. I liked the book but had trouble connecting with the characters because there's so many from the past and their kids that are now main players in the present with the 20+ year flash forward that happened a couple of books back. Having a hard time remembering who's who. There were some warm and fuzzy moments with the birth of a baby and some sad moments as a warrior is lost. Always a good level of smexiness with these breed warriors and Aric delivers...

I’ve still got that one TBR, Lis, so I skipped your review. Love that series.
I’ve finished mine too and will write my review soon.
