August was a mess for us! Lots of stress with a refrigerator dying, thinking it was fixed and then it really dying. Trying to find a replacement that didn't require redoing too much cabinetry... Oy! Books were definitely my escape, but I still didn't read as much as I normally do. Overall a pretty good month though!Ocean Light was my one 5 Star book in August - it just worked for me! I had several other really good books too. Rebel Heir was a 4++ Star read - I loved the characters and their banter was fabulous! I was not as impressed by the sequel Rebel Heart - it was good, but dragged in the middle too much. It started great and ended great though. Other favorites were Grounding Griffin, Eleventh Grave in Moonlight and It's in His Kiss.
Only one dud and it wasn't really a dud, just not anywhere close to as good as the others. I read When Darkness Comes for the FAC and it just didn't grab me. The story was ok, but the writing was a bit pretentious and wordy. I found myself at points wondering if a sentence I just listened to could have been said better with fewer words - not a good sign.
I absolutely loved the audio edition of
- it was spectacular!I had three other 5 star reads this month:
and
and
.Nothing else I read this past month was less than three stars, so I had a marvelous month of reading :) yay!

Trio - I finished Robby a couple of days ago, in audio. What a hoot. I really couldn't work out how Eli E was going to get Robby out of his mess. I loved it. And I loved how the family ended up. Just a great feel-good story.
So well narrated by Matthew Shaw. He seems to be Eli's personal narrator :D
My fav books in August were:
(my C&R reread challenge ~ gosh I love this book!),
(JLH can't write a bad book) and
(what an adventure).I had quite a few other 4 stars read but the above ones were the winners :D
My favorite reads of August were
. All very different reads but all equally wonderful.Least favorite was definitely

Jane, I think we are close the the final Verania book coming out in audio! I've been putting off The Consumption of Magic because I heard it had a big cliffhanger. But I think it might be safe to start it soon - fingers crossed anyway!

I know I can get so focused on what is next that I forget about all the wonderful books I read for the previous month's challenges! Or even get so busy to forget to post discussions... Fall is in the air! And even with a heat wave coming, you can tell - heat waves are normal for us in the fall. The evenings are cooler and the sun is setting earlier and the best thing for many of us is the kids are back in school! I never figured out if the schedule helped or hurt the craziness at my house and the fall was definitely crazy! With one kid doing band, another doing cheer and the last one playing football things were busy, but lots of fun too! I'm starting to dream about holiday romances and hot cocoa by the fire, with a football game on the TV and a book in my hands of course! How about you? Are you ready for fall and pumpkin spice everything or do you want summer to linger? Got any good books planned?
Did you discover some gems last month? DNF a few? Find your new book boyfriend or a heroine who personifies TSTL? Come on, we all want to know! What is your favorite place to read?
