message 2: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4019 comments I read Johnny Doesn't Drink Champagne.

Obviously, this is not me singing. I don't know if I qualify for the extra badge since I weaseled out and got my husband to sing it.

http://youtu.be/NrMO5uqSrFk
Tune: Drive My Car - The Beatles

It's always been my dream, you see,
To fly over the big blue sea.
I wanna find him, his dreamy dark eyes.
There's no time for another goodbye.

Johnny doesn't drink champagne.
Maddie arrived on a plane.
Johnny doesn't drink champagne.
And baby, he loves you.

I don't want Johnny to be alone.
There is much, so much to atone.
And he's waited a very long time.
This way everything will be fine.

Johnny doesn't drink champagne.
Maddie arrived on a plane.
Johnny doesn't drink champagne.
And baby, she loves you.

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments Fantastic, Lanelle!!

I read Moon Tiger by Penelope Lively
Lyrics to "Moon River"

Moon Tiger

Moon Tiger, glowing in the night,
You're keeping darkness at bay.
While war rages, our dreams take flight.
Whatever you're doing, I'm your love day after day.
Two lovers cast against the world.
There's such a fiery world to defend.
But we're hoping for the same utopian end-
Just around the bend,
Be safe my friend,
My Moon Tiger and me.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Great lyrics Connie! They tell such a hopeful story.

Hey, Lanelle - can we get your hubby to record songs for those of us too chicken to do it ourselves?

I showed your comment to my husband. He just chuckled and said, 'Sure, if I know the tune'. And I can pretty much guarantee that he'll know whatever you can think of. He was singing Connie's 'Moon River' on the way to the restaurant tonight.

Maybe tomorrow we'll see if he can make some kind of song stew with several lyrics and tunes :~D

message 11: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments He is a real trooper, Lanelle! : )

I have finished Country Girl by Edna O'Brien. Here are the lyrics inspired by "My Girl" by The Temptations.

Country Girl

She's a swinging, writing Irish lass.
When the world's bitter, she's a honey-voiced warbler.
What's that you say?
Who makes me feel this way?
Country girl, country girl, country girl.
I'm talkin' 'bout country girl, country girl.

So many stories tumble from her head.
She's got the sweet songs of the birds overhead.

Well, I guess you'd say who makes me feel this way?
Country girl, country girl, country girl
Talkin' 'bout country girl, country girl.

Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Ooooh.

She doesn't write for fortune or fame, but needs the money.
She's got two wee lads, baby, and that ain't funny.

Well, I guess you'd say who makes me feel this way?
Country girl, country girl, country girl
Talkin' 'bout country girl, country girl.

I've got a swinging, writing Irish lass
Oh, my country girl.
I've even got a honey-voiced warbler
Oh, my country girl
Talkin' 'bout
Talkin' 'bout
Talkin' 'bout
My country girl
Ooooh
My country girl
As long as I can talk about my country girl...

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments And I am done.

Tune: Danny Boy

The Good Girl

Oh Mia girl. You did go missing
All those months where did you go
You came home with no memory
Oh Mia girl we want to know

Told to us by three different people
Your mom, the cop, and the scumbag too
It was an interesting way to weave the tale
And the Epilogue we heard from you

I will not be singing ( your welcome).

Will check in on everyone's songs tomorrow. Night.

Thing Two (thingtwo) I just finished The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner by James Hogg, and here's my review, sung to the tune of Mr. Hyde by The Who.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments I finished Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. My song will be posted later today, but I have another book I want to finish first, though not for this toppler.

message 15: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Ummm Connie, don't I remember you saying something about being stressed by this part? And then you come up with two great songs?! Girl, you underestimate yourself!

Marnie, your song is perfect, it makes me want to read the book!

Thing Two, I laughed so hard singing along with your song. You did a great job of mixing the book and song together!

Sarah | 18550 comments Wow these are great! Hats off to your husband Lanelle!

message 18: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Ok, so I read Coraline by Neil Gaiman. My lyrics are set to the song by The Offspring called "The End of the Line" which you can hear here.

Despite the title of the song, there are no spoilers so it's safe to read! In fact it doesn't really talk much about the plot, more about the fact I've finished it.

The End of Coraline

When the book's by Neil Gaiman
And the Toppler’s going on
All of time should just stand still

When the story’s under way
And the Toppler game is played
I could live my life happy
if this book would never end

Please stay now, don’t leave me without a book - the end of Coraline
Please stay I can't make it on my own - the end of Coraline
Make it on my own
The end of Coraline

Now that you are read and gone
And I'm left to carry on
I could never smile till I
Find another book

Please stay now, don’t leave me without a book - the end of Coraline
Please stay I can't make it on my own - the end of Coraline
Make it on my own
The end of Coraline

Finally,
Your final resting day
Is a Sunday
I weep
And think of brighter days
What’s my next read?

You can't take back, the one you’ve read
That still lives on after the last page’s spent
In that one day, that changed our lives
And happy memories are left behind

You can't take back, the one you’ve read
That still lives on after the last page’s spent
In that one day, that changed our lives
And happy memories are left behind

Please stay now, don’t leave me without a book - the end of Coraline
Please stay I can't make it on my own - the end of Coraline
Make it on my own
The end of Coraline

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I finished Fool Moon, and here are my lyrics sung to Blue Moon:

Fool Moon
You had me howling alone
Without an alpha beside me
Without a werewolf of my own!

Fool Moon
You shone your silver light down on me
I couldn't wiggle or break free
I was under your spell.

And then there suddenly appeared before me
A wizard waving his wand and wizarding.
He said some strange but magical words.
And now thank the heavens above we're two werewolves in love.

Lynn | 2974 comments Okaaaaaaaaay, my pathetic attempt at writing a song is based on The Cure - Friday I'm in Love

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
Ugly Love

Monday's here and I don't care
Tuesday, Wednesday, might compare
To Thursday where the fun begins
For Friday and Ugly Love

Monday and I push away
Tuesday, Wednesday you push back
Thursday and we're back on track
It's Friday, it's Ugly Love

Saturday's here
And Sunday, time to disappear
But Friday you're my puppeteer

I don't care for Monday blues
Tuesday, Wednesday time to snooze
Thursday, one more day until
It's Friday and Ugly Love

And me singing it .....

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I am in awe of all these songwriters and singers! WOW!
Here is my last song. I read Blue Diary by Alice Hoffman and wrote lyrics inspired by "Blue Moon."

Blue Diary

Blue Diary, you saw me aching and alone
With no one to trust
With a broken heart and home.

Blue Diary, now, I know why I came
You drew me close like a flame
Secrets revealed unlock the name.

And then the truth swiftly appeared before me
The diary tells all I ever have to know.
I heard myself whisper," Don't lie to me."
And when I looked, the diary glowed.

Blue Diary, now I'm no longer alone
With no one to trust
With a broken heart and home.

Janice, Which version did you use? I think The Marcels' "doo wop" version is too fast to keep up with. Need to switch to a ballad version.

I used Ella Fitgerald's version; I think Frank Sinatra has a close version. I did not pull up a you-tube version of the song because I just had the tune rattling around in my head. We have a few Ella Fitgerald CDs here that we listen to fairly often.

I used the only one worth considering for my dear Harry Dresdin: Frank Sinatra

I kind of mashed the last line I think. It was difficult getting it to fit.
