Sarah | 18550 comments I've just thought up my song for the second book, The Emperor's Soul. I don't like it as much as my first but it will do. It's set to the song by The Beat called "Mirror in the Bathroom" which you can listen to here.

The Emperor’s Soul

Shai is in a locked room
Wants to be free
The door is locked
Just her waiting to flee.
Where she sits and carves
Soulstone at the table
All by herself
While she is carving.

Shai is in a locked room
She just can't stop it,
Every day she plans to flee
And carving.
All her interest in the
Carving of a self
Just a thousand indentations
For the Emperor’s soul, soul, soul...

Liz (lizvegas) | 504 comments Here are my lyrics based on Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover. The original song is Force MDs - Tender Love (one of my favorite love songs of all time!)
Here is the original so you can sing along:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW_vp...

Ugly Love

Here I lay all alone, with expectations
Longing for some of your Ugly Love.
What is your silence saying? No smiles.
unanswered questions….and 3 rules that you’ve given to me

Ugly love, love so ugly
You make me liquid--- baby, break the rules
My heart aches to know,
Why the Ghosts of your past are hanging on and
why I can’t have all of you now

I want you more and more, can’t resist you
Ooh and then I feel your touch, Ugly Love
You’re the best thing I’ve ever felt, hold me nearer
Please let me be a part of the ugly love you’re giving to me

Ugly love, love so ugly
You make me liquid --- baby, break the rules
Oooh yeah, break the rules

Ugly love
Please let me be a part
Ugly love.

Casceil | 2728 comments I read Hold Me Closer, Necromancer. My song contains spoilers, but probably not much you wouldn't guess from the cover of the book.

To the Tune of "Oh my Darling, Clementine"

Hold me closer, Necromancer

In a mansion in Seattle
Lived a necromancer vile.
He controlled the wizard’s counsel,
And had done so for a while.

Then a new kid, working fast food
Accidentally raised his ire.
He told the bad guy his true story
But the bad guy called him “Liar.”

Oh my darling Necromancer
Hold me closer, one more time.
We are stuck in a cage together,
Oh my darling, please be mine.

Now the new kid was in trouble,
He freed his power just in time.
He learned to use it on the double
And he learned how just in time

Hold me closer, Necromancer,
Hold me closer, one more time.
Now you new kid, Necromancer,
Oh my darling, please be mine.

I use that line all of the time.

When someone asks me "Who sings that song?" I respond, "I don't care, it's got a good beat and I can dance to it. I give it a five, Dick."

I think that they think I am insulting them by calling them "a dick", which of course is not my meaning at all. Ahh, I you had to be there!☻

I wrote this song to the tune of You Can Leave Your Hat On. Here's the Joe Cocker video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfgwrd... .

Here are my lyrics to SCARY STORIES:

Mr. King, write us some books
Scarey stories
Write us some horror
I love reading some horror
Mr. King gives me chills
Yes, Yes, Yes!

I will leave the lights on
Will sleep with the lights on
I will leave the lights on

I love that reason to read

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments I am in the process of tweaking my song but the only problem is what tune to set it to. I am not very familiar with English songs.

Jmom, I heard the 'Piano man' a couple of times but since this is the first time I am hearing it, I am having trouble setting the song to its tune. Wish I could play the Harmonica too.

Hmm let's see. I will come up with something. Or make you all listen to a Hindi song I set to the tune of. :p Now that would be fun!

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Major apologies! I had things to do yesterday and knew we had until Monday to report. Since I'll probably have to work late, I just checked the time cut-off. It's noon! Here's a quickie I just put together based on Bookends by Simon and Garfunkel.

Bel Canto

Time it was
Roxane sang songs for us, it was
A time of innocence
Song softened our captors.

Long ago it must be
We started to be friends
That was not meant to be
It all ended sadly.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Yikes, I just realized that it's my early day for work (yes, noon is early for me - I am very rarely up at this godforsaken time), so I quickly finished my song. Here it is, The Night Searchers, to the tune of Moondance,by Van Morrison.

Van's version (soooo much better than my lyrics): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MiDrd...

Night Search

Well, it's a marvelous time for a night search
With the clouds up above in the sky
A fantabulous night to find treasure
As the wind in the trees it does sigh

And all the leaves on the trees are blowin'
As the cold rain continues to fall
An' I'm trying to find the next clue
It might be hidden in the crumbling wall

And all the nights magic seems to whisper and moan
And all of the falling rain says I’ll be all alone
Can I just solve one more puzzle tonight, I must
Can I just find one more treasure tonight, I must

Well, I wanna go on a search tonight
I can't wait 'til the morning has come
No one must know what I’m doing
Because I know that then they’ll want some

And when I find it, my heart will be pounding
To make sure that it’s mine all alone
There and then, all my dreams will come true, yes
There and then, It will become my own

And every time a clue’s found, I just tremble inside
Cause it brings me closer and my thrill I can't hide
Can I just solve one more puzzle tonight, I must
Can I just find one more treasure tonight, I must

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Liz - This could be the official summary of the book.

Casceil - Clementine works so much better than I thought it would! Now I can't say the title without humming Clementine :)

Debra - That's a great expression of your feelings! You'd better post it in your S King group.

Almeta - I can't decide if your song's the perfect homage to chocolate, or if it's pure cruelty to some of us :) I am drooling all over the place.

Pragya - I agree with everyone else, a Hindi song would be so great.

Theresa - No apologies needed. I think you said everything needed.

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments I blame it on my still reeling from the flu that I even thought putting English lyrics to a Hindi tune was going to be easy. Uh huh, never ever am I going to say that again!

Well, I tried my best. I apologize for putting you all through some bad recording, even worse voice (bad cold and sore throat), listen at your own risk. I am coveting the glue stick award. Oh and the lyrics make no sense. So, well...

I read 2 A.M. at The Cat's Pajamas.

Original song (Tum hi ho) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcwRn...
My recording (only audio, took me ages to find a site where I could do this) - https://audioboo.fm/boos/2387863-topp...

Here's my song lyrics.

2 A.M. at The Cat's Pajamas
is where all show up.

What a varied weird bunch
but everything finds its place.

2 A.M. at The Cat's Pajamas
is where all show up.

Snow flurries fall,
sweeping uselessly at the air.

'Look alive, bubble butt', Madeleine says.
Well, it's almost a home.

Waiting to be submerged in the white light,
'Here it comes', she thinks but it's only a yawn.

Alligator and tiger in a reject's apartment,
oh, you know damn well I can't read.

Hey there you with the stars in your eyes,
when you are not around, my days are gray.

I know the only one for me could only be you,
for the moment we are two people holding hands.

Oh, there's no talking to that man.
I gather him in his name so that he can't escape.

2 A.M. at The Cat's Pajamas
is where it all unrolls.

Fights and singing,
enemies and friends.

Oh, that's how life goes.
Oh, that's how life goes.
That's how life goes.

I read Alpine for You and really enjoyed it.
Here's my song, although I have to preface it by saying I took a little liberty with the setting, as there was not a Swiss chalet in the book. Also, I have no musical ability whatsoever. The lyrics are inspired by With or Without You by U2.

Alpine for You

Sitting here in a Swiss chalet
waiting on you
but now you're late.

Alpine for you.

A dose of poisen
and now you're gone
what has that killer
up and done?

Alpine for you

Dead or alive?
Dead or alive...ah ha
What will I do
without my tour guide?

And my vacation will go on
My vacation will go on
I'll solve the crime
and carry on
My vacation will go on
but
Alpine for you
