Did y'all see this? It is Colbert doing an analysis of Chance the Rapper's song "Favorite Song" featuring Childish Gambino...and its connections to The Silmarillion. I hope it fills you with as much joy as it did me!

He is pure, unadulterated nerd and if I hadn't already committed to becoming a dragon, I'd want to grow up to be him.

Beth | 211 comments Cool! I certainly wouldn't have remembered off the top of my head that the Earendil song had internal rhyme. I *might* have remembered about Earendil's connection to Old English (I've definitely read about it somewhere before, but it's not the sort of thing I have memorized...)

I think I'm probably sufficiently nerdy that I get to keep my Tolkien nerd card anyway, though.

Every time he talks about any of the middle-earth saga, I try to sit down and take notes. It actually helps, because I have tried twice to read The Silmarillion and just CANNOT do it.

Beth | 211 comments Slightly off topic re. the original post -- but I wanted to see if someone had set that song to music, and I found a version here (Adele McAllister):

It's excellent!
