jaxnsmom | 8341 comments It's time to start reading and humming. And having good food and drink, and chatting, and a little napping.

message 2: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11457 comments Hey, I was locked out.

Boy jaxnsmom you are on the ball.

It's time, Hooray!

Starting Chocolat.

message 3: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments What are you reading? Will it help with any challenges, has it been on your tbr a long time?

Mine is neither, it's the latest by a favorite author.

message 4: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I hope you enjoy Chocolat Almeta. I read it for a toppler this year and really enjoyed it.

I'm starting Coraline now. I am slowly working my way through Neil Gaiman's books. It doesn't satisfy any challenges unfortunately but it is a book I've wanted to read for ages.

message 5: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments Hi y'all. I am starting The Good Girl. I decided what I was going to read about 5 minutes ago. I'm usually such a planner....

Happy reading.

You Lot need a re-fresher course on How to Win a Toppler! What were you guys thinking?☻"

ACK! I'm 15 minutes late. I got sidetracked by the bogo at Audible. And I'm still in my jammies, and my coffee is cold!

message 7: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments At least you made a decision :) You'll have to let us know if the last minute planning worked for you. Now I'd better be off to read my book!

message 8: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I'm late getting started with Scary Stories because we had a tiny black kitten show up at our door in our apartment this morning. I ran home from my sister's to find a notice posted on the apartment building door that someone had lost their kitten. We've contacted the owner of this little cutie and she will be reunited with her mommy in a couple of hours. Our 2 cats and my husband are happy I'm home and that we've found the little one's home. Everyone's a bit stressed right now!

message 9: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Hi all. Checking in. I am reading the same book as Almeta.

I can't start reading yet. I have some sewing to do for my granddaughter. She and her brother just arrived a few minutes ago.

message 10: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizvegas) | 504 comments Just woke up (I love you, summer!), made a pot of coffee, and downloaded Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover Ugly Love to my kindle. This is my favorite author, of this genre, and the book just got released last Tuesday. I am beyond excited to spend the rest of my morning reading it, as I can't help but gobble up all of Hoover's books!

My song will be Ugly Love, set to the tune of Tainted Love!! Who DOESN'T love this Soft Cell jam!?

message 11: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Checking in. I overslept. It's only 9:30 here, and I forget how early the East Coast hits noon while daylight savings time is in effect. I'm still not really sure what I'm going to read, but I'm about to start Hold Me Closer, Necromancer. My husband keeps recommending it to me, and it is a catchy title.

message 12: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizvegas) | 504 comments OooOOooO, can we not start until noon? or is okay for us west coasters to begin?

message 13: by Lanelle (last edited Aug 09, 2014 09:44AM) (new)

Lanelle | 4019 comments I've decided to read Johnny Doesn't Drink Champagne, set to the Beatles song 'Baby You Can Drive My Car'.

I wish I had been able to think of a country song to put it to. That would be better.

I read it awhile ago and enjoyed it. But I thought the title would make an awesome song!

message 14: by Pragya (last edited Aug 09, 2014 09:48AM) (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Wait, what? Has it started? But I checked and re-checked the time conversion. Duh!

I wanted to finish my current read before I started but oh, well.

I am starting 2 A.M. at The Cat's Pajamas. No clue how I will write a song on that!

message 15: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11457 comments Liz wrote: "OooOOooO, can we not start until noon? or is okay for us west coasters to begin?"

Begin now! ☺☺

You are synchronizing your time (whatever that is) with Eastern Daylight Savings Time, So that we are all reading during the same period of time all over the globe.

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Liz wrote: "OooOOooO, can we not start until noon? or is okay for us west coasters to begin?"

You can start reading at noon DST, which was 48 minutes ago! And you have to stop reading tomorrow at noon DST, whatever that is in your time zone. It's 5pm for me in the UK!

Good song choice! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with lyrically!

You and any one else, are welcome to join Cherie and I in reading Chocolat.

In fact I think I'll go set up a Buddy Read. I'm also inviting those who have already read it to join in on the conversation too.

ETA: Buddy Read link for Chocolat

Are we going to be singing our songs to the tune of "Blue Moon"? I'm reading Fool Moon. We could do a duet dual. LOL!

message 23: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I stupidly decided to make pies for dinner tonight which take a while to make! So I'm off to get that started now as my belly is starting to rumble. I'm going to listen to the rest of Harry Potter 1 while I'm doing that.

I am planning to use "Moon River" for this book; however, if I make it to another book, I may use "Blue Moon" for it. You have nothing to fear from me, dear Janice!! I must admit that I am feeling really stressed with this song writing component. Haha! I should just admit that my song(s) will be so bad! lol But then I guess that is the point. : )

message 25: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Lanelle - how about Jimmy Dean's " Big Bad John" for your book song?

"Every evening at five you could see him arrive
He wore black on black with a bright pink tie.
Narrow in the shoulders and narrow in the hip
Everyone knew not to look him in the eye.
Old John,
Old John,
Old John Slick"

I think there is a Johnny Cash song "bubbling" in the back of my mind too! Or something to "Tiny Bubbles".

Back to sewing now...

message 26: by Ava Catherine (new)

I'm getting my moon songs all mixed up. LOL! Moon Tiger naturally fit Moon River, doesn't it?

message 30: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Almeta, thanks for the invitation, but Chocolat looks a little too tempting. I'm trying to avoid eating sugar--I'm borderline pre-diabetic. My son's girlfriend is visiting from the Netherlands, and she brought me a bag of Dutch Chocolate, which I have so far avoided gobbling in one sitting. Reading about chocolate would probably not help my resolve.

Besides, it occurs to me that "Hold me Closer, Necromancer" could be sung to the tune of "Oh My Darling Clementine."

message 31: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizvegas) | 504 comments Hold me Closer, Necromancer just screams to me "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John! Almost perfectly aligned chorus!

message 32: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Casceil, I think it's best to stay away from Chocolat if you are trying to avoid the real thing. It's WAY to tempting otherwise. It had me drooling when I read it! And I think your song fits really well to your book.

Finished cooking (and eating) my dinner so back to reading now. I'm really enjoying Coraline and it's a quick read. I've decided to use the song "The End of the Line" by The Offspring so my new title will be "The End of Coraline".

message 33: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments There doesn't seem to be many of us taking part as yet!

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments I started shortly after noon Eastern Time. I'm listening to Bel Canto by Ann Patchett and trying to figure out what song to use for it. So far, the book is dragging, which is disappointing after loving other books by the same author.

I started this yesterday - loving it so far! But now I have to wait til tomorrow to pick it up again. I thought of Billy Joel's Piano Man. Can you play the harmonica? ☺

Oh my, that chocolate would be very hard to resist. I have diabetes and have recently cut waaaayyyy back on sweets (I stupidly didn't take it seriously for years and it's caught up to me).

It sounds like the rest of you have some interesting books and songs. And I have youtube up listening to all the songs mentioned :~D Can't wait to 'hear' ya'lls results! I already fell asleep and woke just in time to take the dogs to the vet. Jingo got regular booster shot and Callie got a steroid shot to help her balance.

Sorry to hear that Theresa. I gave the book 4 stars. Maybe it will pick up for you after you get to know the characters better.

Thing Two (thingtwo) My iPad died! The downside of reading an e-book for a toppler. :-{

message 42: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I almost forgot to come up for air. At least with j'mom's product above, it's safe to come up for air. LOL!

I've been jotting down phrases that may turn into lyrics. (Restless as a rabbit when a fox goes by.) I think I need a whole whack more though.

How is everyone else doing?

Is it dead, or taking a nap (waiting to be charged)?

message 44: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm speeding along in my book and I've also been having a play with my song. It's hard but good fun. I'm going to be keeping some of the original words in the song, changing the odd one here and there on some lines and then rewriting other lines completely. I liked your restless rabbit line Janice!

message 45: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11457 comments Debra was at my place this morning with the intent of staying the day and starting the Toppler together.

My company was cast aside as soon as a fuzzy animal showed up at her house!☻

She did leave me food though. So had an excellent calamari salad for lunch.

The Super Moon and Perseids Showers (and hubby) are occupying her time tonight. I'll just have to eat the Lox, bagels and cream cheese all by my lonesome.

Such hardships!☻

message 46: by Lanelle (last edited Aug 09, 2014 01:46PM) (new)

Lanelle | 4019 comments Janice, I'm at 76% and I've been taking notes for possible lyrics, too. And I'm enjoying the book. It good all around.

Sounds like she might be early to the party. I'll probably have complete cloud cover like I did for the last Supermoon.
