What's the weirdest place you've ever read a book?

Care to illustrate with an example... :)
In my case I don't think I have a "weird place" story but more of "at an inappropriate time", and that would have to be in the middle of a party, on the Kindle app on my phone. I do this very often, including Christmas eve dinner.

Okay... I'm pretty sure no one in this thread is going to be able to top that one. I think we can safely say that you win.
I'm curious, what were you reading?

I wouldn't be so sure. And either way, I still want stories.
I was reading The Blade Itself.

Wow, strip club! The best I can do at this point is in the bathtub. So many paperbacks have been ruined that way. And in the age of ereaders, its a surefire way to risk electrocution!

Wow. The nerves would have been killing me and I wouldn't have been able to concentrate knowing I was trapped in an elevator!

Or get a waterproof case. I wonder if those actually work if you drop the reader in water or if they are just to protect in case one or two drops make it to the reader.
I remember reading comic books in the bathtub once, it didn't end well.

Always prepared! That's a Scout's motto. My friends always look at me weird when I stuff a book and my Kindle in my purse everywhere but goes to show you just never know when reading time will crop up.

I've been stuck in a lift too, but sadly without a book. Had to spend the time talking to my fiance, and since it was his fault the lift stopped (he jumped up and down), I wasn't very happy with him!

Boats seem like a great place to read, just don't drop the book into the ocean!
Ouch! I hope he learned his lesson. I hope his primary motivation was to test out the hypothesis about what happens when you jump in an elevator rather than pissing you off.

There also may have been alcohol involved. He's lucky I still married him!

Haha!! If you look at it that way, that was kinda sweet.

"Man, I wish I could do that," she said.

On the table while I was having my Mirena inserted.
Hey if I'm going to be in a paper gown, with my feet in stirrups waiting for the doctor, might as well have a book.

Ok, I know this isn't a contest, but to me you are the winner :)
And I thought no one was going to be able to top Alicja's story...

(I also learned that if you google "Mirena insert" there are youtube videos....)

But it pales when compared to some of these great ones!

But Wialliam, yours is awesome too! Although I did read for fun a few times when hanging out in a tank simulator back when I used to work on military contracts.

Now that's scary...

I read military space opera in there. And gay and lesbian romance as a bit of a fuck you to the "don't ask, don't tell" policy of the day. But nothing tank related. I was in theory supposed to be working and not reading for fun.

Audiobooks or actual walking with a book on your hands?

Audiobooks or actual walking with a book on your hands?"
I would think walking with an actual book could get painful! *ouch* I can just imagine walking into walls and other objects.

Ooh, will you teach us the trick?
I'm looking forward to cars of the future that will drive us. Listening to audiobooks in cars is okay but I would love to be able to just sit back and read while the car drives me. :P

I do that all the time. It helps that I'm using a Kindle and have good peripheral vision.

We already have that, it's called "Honey, why don't you drive today?" :)
But I can't read in cars, I get nauseous :(

That works great unless your honey retorts, "Great, its a perfect day to take Loretta (aka the highly uncomfortable Kawasaki Ninja, at least uncomfortable for the passenger) out for a spin." *sigh* I haven't mastered reading on motorcycles either.

Now there's a new challenge for you :P

Reading a book was the last thing on my mind when having a Mirena fitted! You must have a high pain threshold.
