Steph | 6 comments It's a book series that I read maybe two or three books of, mostly from the early/mid 2000s.
A group of friends woke a crew of zombies in the first book (by accident?), and they struggled to adjust. The zombies needed to sleep in tubs of dirt to not decompose as quickly, and caused some issues. The books switch points of view to focus on a friend who takes care of a zombie.

The first zombie to be . .sent to what is implied to be heaven is. .. possibly a solider.

The next book in the series is from the POV of a tomboy, and she's stuck with the sole female zombie, who is very girly. They struggle to get along, and the tomboy struggles to get along with her mother. The zombie girl takes the mother's side, and at the end, zombie girl and tomboy become friends before zombie girl is "redeemed", shown in golden light and such. She takes zombie girl to school disguised as possibly her cousin, and a few human boys get a crush on the zombie girl. the mother also buys her daughter a white dress, the tomboy has to play an important soccer game, her mother keeps confusing the sporting terms, and the zombie girl has to. . .track down her house? she stole a box of something from maybe-her-sister.(maybe a necklace?)
In the end, the mother and daughter are on good terms.

In the third book, a zombie named Lassider (Lassiter? I'm pretty sure) who has been making trouble is the main focus. He has an axe stuck in his back. also kind of goes to hell?

A long shot - Generation Dead series by Daniel Waters?

Steph, about how old are the kids?

message 3: by Steph (new)

Steph | 6 comments It’s not— sorry!

The kids are...somewhere between sixth and eighth grade, I think? There’s very little romance in the first few books

Rainbowheart | 28587 comments Could it have been a Christian series? Redemption and going to heaven or hell makes me think a religious publisher.

message 5: by Steph (new)

Steph | 6 comments I don’t believe so!
The...redemption stuff was more of...
The girl zombie returned a necklace she’d stolen to her niece— taking care of unfinished business

Christian stuff sticks out to me because it’s not my religion— so if it was Christian, it was more low key than Narnia?
