The Slightly Odd World of Phil Whiteland
More of the pen portrait that sparked such a massive wave of apathy in Part One! ;-)https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog...

Poor old Cyril isn't getting many visitors! ;-)
Glad to know there are still volunteers everywhere keeping these things alive so the next generation can see them.

I found an Eric Bartholomew on Youtube who is a chess player, and one who is into disco music, but I didn't find one of your comedian. Do you know of any? I'd like to see what was so funny, even if it is British, and I might not get all of it.
PS Blogger no longer lets people without blogging accounts there leave a comment, so I wisely saved my comment to post here - I've gotten bitten by B too many times now.

Very perceptive of you - to understand that a kid just couldn't or wouldn't fit in. Do you know any more of him?
Too bad some of this wisdom may be late in coming.
Hi Alicia, thanks for your comments. Eric Bartholomew adopted the name of his hometown as his stage name, hence Eric Morecambe. Search for Morecambe and Wise and see what you think :-)

I'm afraid I wasn't all that perceptive at the time, as you tend not to be at 15. I'm afraid I don't know what happened to him.

I meant now - not many are perceptive when in the middle of things, as they know they could easily become the next victim.
Thanks Alicia. I think there are likely to be quite a few parts to this story, it's one I've been meaning to tell for quite some time.

Alicia says Ian Fleming would be proud of me! 😉
You didn't have to scratch the surface of Moscow in 2005 very hard to find something very odd indeed!https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog...
Alicia wrote: "I guess he didn't worry about what would happen to the dog if he didn't return! This is bizarre."
Told you ;-) Thanks for taking an interest, Alicia.
Waiting for the next episodes - I'm probably not getting to Moscow.Everything I've ever read doesn't inspire me to plan a trip, either. Plus I like my food less interesting than theirs sounds. Spoiled, I am.
After you're finished, maybe I'll try Google Earth.
I wonder what my reaction might have been to the diner - I moved to California from New Jersey, where they were invented. So how many days of teaching did this part of the course entail?
Did you ever learn why DeGaulle? How odd.

Thanks for commenting, as always, Alicia. Actually, I've never been in an authentic U.S. Diner despite numerous trips across the pond, so to find myself in one in the centre of Moscow was odd, to say the least!
My module of the course was four days teaching in total, so the visit I've just described involved 2 days teaching. I'll be telling you about my return visit in January, soon.
Re de Gaulle, I don't know but there has always been a close relationship between Russia and France. Perhaps others could shed some light on this?
All the news about my new book, 'Animal Turns', here on my blog:https://philwhiteland.blogspot.com/20...
I've been banging on about this for nine years now and still no-one's taken issue with my argument! Don't tell me I'm right!!https://philwhiteland.blogspot.com/20...
It's not really a blog post and I know I shouldn't say this, as it's rather like putting your puddings out for treacle, but I'm rather fond of this story and it is very relevant :-)"Peregrine seemed a little distracted, He rummaged for a moment in a pocket before producing what appeared to be a reddish-orange tennis-ball sized piece of Plasticine. Rolling it around in his hand he seemed lost in thought. Then, eventually, "Have you heard of C4?" he asked, conversationally."

It's not a blog post, as such. I was driving through my old home town of Burton upon Trent and went past a very well-known funeral directors' there. When I saw what was attached to the front wall, I just knew I had to write a new Undertakers story. This is it :-)https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...

It's always worrying when maniacal laughter emanates from your PC, isn't it?

Yes, I know he was just another ancient Burtonian but I thought the article might have evoked some response ;-)
