Philip Whiteland | 3396 comments They say Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned but Archibald and Josiah seem immune in this week's episode of the 'Dead Reckoning' series:

Philip Whiteland | 3396 comments In Merkin-under-Heathwood, crime is afoot, which is doing nothing to help the foot (or temper) of D.I. Wood. A day earlier than usual, here is this week's Josiah and Archibald tale from the 'Dead Reckoning' series:

Philip Whiteland | 3396 comments Episode 19 and Archibald is en-route to Evanley Hall, much against his better judgement, and doesn't know what to expect? Certainly not a nice sit down and a cup of tea!

Very commendable! I didn't for years but recently I've backslid with coffee!

Philip Whiteland | 3396 comments BTW I'm more than a bit disgusted with X (Twitter as was) so I'm experimenting by not promoting this week's Undertakers story on there but on Blue Sky instead. We'll see if that makes any difference (although not to Elon Must, I shouldn't think!) If you want to say hello on Blue Sky, you can find me at @philwhiteland.bsky.social

message 665: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3396 comments This week's episode and Samantha makes some progress whilst Josiah and Archibald find their feet...wet!

https://www.abctales.com/story/philwh...

P.S. I've deactivated my Twitter/X account and feel better for it :-)

message 666: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I must admit I never post to twitter but there are people I follow on Twitter (mainly about Ukraine) and I never bother reading the comments below their threads :-)

Every time you post a story to ABCTales, you're automatically encouraged to post links to it on Facebook and Twitter (sic), which I've always done. That's the only time I have any interaction with Twitter. Now it will be Blue Sky, which is identical as far as I can see, but without the ranting! :-)

message 668: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I haven't looked at Blue Sky but I don't feel I need more social media to interact with
At the moment farcebuck and goodreads are about enough for the amount of time I'm willing to give them :-)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4844 comments I am on the same two, Jim: GR and FB.

FB has all my online support groups - medical and book-related.

GR is where I keep a small presence in this group -and occasionally check out other groups.

It's more than I need.

I did try a bunch of others - didn't find community.

I had a semi-decent group of other authors on Wattpad - but one day, with no warning or way to download anything - they close the forums.

Can that happen again? Probably. Hope not. I need to fit SOMEWHERE.

Philip Whiteland | 3396 comments I've never really managed to fit in with an online 'community'. 1. Because I don't have the time or inclination to devote a large part of my day to it and 2. Because it turns sour and/or back-biting or the rules get in the way or they just turn it off (as Alicia experienced). I suppose the nearest I got was Authonomy, which I enjoyed but which did consume an inordinate amount of time. Then Amazon Forums, which is what led me here!

Basically, I use social media as a form of free (but not very effective) advertising. On which note, I've finally managed to get into the position of 'you can't give them away'! - I offered 2 paperback copies of my novel 'Bring Out Your Dead' to anyone who would give them a fair review and...not a sausage :-(

message 671: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I have seen communities form back on usenet but the trolls seemed to inevitably destroy them given time.

With regard to forums and suchlike, I assume transience :-(

Indeed even with my blogs I write the post in word, then keep it stored on my computer, copying and pasting it onto the blog. I'm not risking it all just disappearing because somebody has a policy change

message 683: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3396 comments Despite everything that's been happening in our world this week, life in Josiah and Archibald's world continues on its less-than-smooth path. This week, questions are asked but not necessarily answered and Archibald gets the chance to put his feet up.

Philip Whiteland | 3396 comments It's Friday, so it's more than high time for Episode 35 in the 'Dead Reckoning' series in which we find Samantha struggling with Mr. Strine's note-taking, Josiah and Archibald back in the saddle again and D.S. Stone praying for a breakthrough, or just for something to happen, which is coincidental because...

message 686: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3396 comments Episode 37 in which the Detectives embark on a course of action (in the teeth of opposition from D.S. Stone) and Josiah and Archibald find themselves in need of legal representation - of sorts!

message 693: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3396 comments About this time of year, I tend to deviate a little from whatever Josiah and Archibald saga is ongoing, and knock up a few festive stories. This is the first for 2024, there will probably be others :-)

message 694: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3396 comments The last Friday before Christmas is often a time of office parties, and Oakshott & Underwood are no exception to that rule. Emva Cream anyone?
