Massie's Catherine the Great came to my attention via the Book Lover's 2014 Calendar. Interesting to hear more about it.

I seem to be in a rom-suspense mood lately. Just finished two short ones by Julie Miller, Task Force Bride and Yuletide Protector, and am now reading a longer RS by Carla Neggers, The Widow.

Beings as I review books for an online blog, I read a little bit of everything! But I'm pretty heavy on Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy, with a mix of Crime/Police mysteries as well.

Reading Hope Flames by Jaci Burton. It's a romance/suspense I guess.

I am on p42..so far, so good.
Stay warm Good Read buddies.
If I didn't have to go to work I'd snuggle under a blanket & read until all this cold stuff is past! :)
I love to read mysteries especially Scandinavian and the classics. Finished the brilliant book Rebecca. Also I watched both the original film and the masterpiece theater production. Diana Rigg as Mrs Danvers was fastastic. Lest I forget love Ian Rankin and so much

Now I remember why I disliked Halfway to the Grave. Cat is just too wounded-bird at the beginning and I hated the ending. A lot.
Now I remember why I disliked Halfway to the Grave. Cat is just too wounded-bird at the beginning and I hated the ending. A lot.BUT, by the end of the book I liked Cat a lot more, and I loved Bones instantly. I've read the synopsis of the other books and I think I'll like them enough that I've committed to reading the next two book in the series.

      This week I finished reading
the Secret Keepers by Kate Morton. There's a mystery here, all right, but this very involved story is more than that. I admit it, the ending took me by surprise.

Finished reading The Widow by Carla Neggers. Good rom-suspense, but I sometimes felt like a cast of characters would have been helpful, especially for the first half of the book. It was sometimes difficult to remember how all these people were related.
Am now a quarter of the way through I'm the Vampire, That's Why by Michele Bardsley, which I saw recommended somewhere on GR, I can't remember if it was this group or another group I am in. Maybe both? The snarky voice of the narrator reminds me a lot of MaryJanice Davidson, and I know there are a few MJD fans in this group.

I'm still ambivalent about Kat sometimes, but Bones has always been the reason I read the books!

Funny that we both thought the authors have similar vouces! ☺

Reread The One and Future King by T.C. White

Darn! Some books are best remembered and not read again. For me, this was one of them. I must have confused it with another rending of Arthur and Merlin. Since I read it about 40 years ago, that is entirely possible.
Funny, I don't feel that way about Phyllis Whitney or Barbara Michaels, or Ellis Peters, or Elizabeth Peters.
I'm reading Relic which is by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. So far it has been very good--it's about a beast that's loose in a Manhattan museum.

I had The Once and Future King on my wish list for years; finally broke down and read it. I enjoyed Book One and pretty much suffered through the rest. I much preferred Mary Stewart's Arthurian trilogy - I stayed glued to all 3 books.

Yeah, I LOVED Bones. :)
I just finished Called Home, a Moroni Traveler mystery by Robert Irvine. They are PI mysteries set in Utah.

On a related note my sister in law lives in Salt Lake and last time I was there we ate at a Mormon restaurant that had the best food and literally the most incredible pie I've ever tasted. Reading these books makes me really want some pie. :-D
BTW, the restaurant was called the Lion House.

This series is a favorite of mine and I've recommended it to so many people I've lost count! They are sometimes hard to find, but definitely worth the effort.
I started The Little Girls but really could not get into it, so I set it aside and am now trying The Stockholm Octavo

"The first part is the Sword in the Stone and the Disney movie follows it well. I thought the rest would be better but...I probably was remembering the Stewart series also. I'll have to revisit.
Thanks to all of you who reminded me of that one.
When I'm not reading mysteries, I'm usually reading middle-grade fiction, with a bit of history/natural history thrown in. And books on the art and craft of writing. I'm trying to read more general/"serious" fiction, but it's a uphill battle, partly because I'm so focused on the genres I write.

Finished The Next Always by Nora Roberts last night, and am getting ready to start Up From the Grave by Jeaniene Frost.

It was time for a visit with old friends, so I re-read Anne of Green Gables. I think I may re-read the whole series throughout the coming year.

It was fun to revisit the whole series, especially the later ones which I didn't really recall. But the first book is still my favorite one :)
I picked up The Inner Circle

I'm so glad I finally got around to it. I get why my Mom loved those books.

I loved the Anne of Green Gables series when I was a kid. I also read the first one or two books in her Emily series.
Finished Up From the Grave by Jeaniene Frost last night, and wasn't up as late as the night before finishing it. I read just over half the book Sunday night, and had to force myself to put it down so I could get some sleep. Had I not had to work Monday morning, I might have stayed up all night reading it.
Am currently reading a short classic by Horatio Alger, Ragged Dick, about a young boot-black.
