LOVE King, but decided against UNDER THE DOME. Just too long!!

It's a commitment, that's for sure. Plus, it's a heavy book to have to handle. This is one novel that would be a definite advantage to read in e-form or audio.

Just started Scandal Sheet by Gemma Halliday, which has just been nominated for a RITA. Sort of a chic lit mystery.

Denise | 618 comments I'm still working on How We Die: Reflections on Life's Final Chapter. I'm over half way through it. A little more technical than I expected it to be which is why I'm going a little slower than I normally read. I started People of the Book (what a great title for book lovers isn't it). I'm only 30 pages into it but it is good so far. The story revolves around a mysterious, beautifully illuminated Hebrew manuscript created in 15th century Spain and recently saved from destruction during the shelling of Sarajevo's libraries.

One of my VERY favorite series. Can't wait for Kiss Of Death (The Morganville Vampires, #8) by Rachel Caine on 4/27!

Currently reading Mad, Bad and Blonde by Cathie Linz. Pretty good so far. Have a couple of cozies waiting when I am done.

I really liked that one, Susie. I got to read an ARC late last year and it made my top reads for 2009. But then it's good we don't all like the same books or a lot of authors wouldn't sell any books!

Heidi | 2446 comments I am listening to Looking for Alaska by John Green

message 312: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I just finished People of the Book: Library Edition and was all ready to start on our Monthly Theme read but had to go pick up my reserve books that were in at the library. So we go and pick up the books and The Lovely Bones is only a 14 day loan with no renewals. So I am reading The Lovely Bones. (I'm on Chapter 2). Thus far is pretty good, sucks you in from the first paragraph. Has anyone else read it?

message 313: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Denise -I just listened to Lovely Bones on audio and liked it.

Denise | 618 comments Heidi wrote: "Denise -I just listened to Lovely Bones on audio and liked it."

Is the little girl (Susie) the narrator?

message 315: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Yes Denise, but I got the audiobook read by the author. I guess there is another audiobook of Lovely Bones read by an actress that everyone on my audiobook group loved. I did not like the author as a narrator as she did not sound even close to being a teenager, but I still liked the story.

Mary (resort) | 139 comments Heidi wrote: "I just got done with The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, which was excellent -- even though it is way far away from my normal books.

Heidi, I just saw a Book TV interview with the author of that book (she was at the Virginia Festival of the Book). She made it sound really interesting, from both the scientific point of view and the personal. I'll have to look for it.

Mary (resort) | 139 comments Melodie wrote: ...it's good we don't all like the same books or a lot of authors wouldn't sell any books!

It certainly is good! All of us authors would either starve or be stuck with writing the same kind of book instead of the one that's bubbling inside us. I don't know which would be worse! :-)

message 318: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments I hope you like it Mary Ellen - I really did and was quite surprised because science is not my thing normally.

message 319: by Sandie (new)

Sandie | 10741 comments I will read most anything written by Robert Goddard. Each book is different and he rarely repeats a protagonist from one book to the next. I particularly enjoyed Past Caring, Caught in the Light and In Pale Battalions. Currently reading 31 Bond Street, historical fiction based upon an actual murder case in New York circa 1857.

message 320: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments I am starting Saving Ceecee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman on audiobook. I am excited as the woman who read the part of Skeeter from The Help and also read Shiver is the narrator. She is excellent.

Kristine (fezabel) (fezabel) | 7 comments The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood

I enjoyed Oryx & Crake so much that I wanted to continue in their universe. That happens a lot with me. :-)

message 322: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I'm reading Silver Borne (Mercedes Thompson, #5) by Patricia Briggs and Immortal in Death (In Death, #3) by J.D. Robb .

message 323: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments The Lovely Bones was a good book. It's not up there with People of the Book but it was a pretty good read. It is a very good reminder that you don't really know who lives next door. So after I finished The Lovely Bones I got to start on my April Theme Read. More about that in another thread.

Caitlyn (quietcait) | 98 comments I've just started Kindred in Death by J.D. Robb. I love and own (keep) this entire series! This is the first time I haven't re-read the entire series before the new release but my TBR pile is just too big.

It's not your traditional mystery, and not cozy, but I just finished the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. It's got romance, supernatural creatures, but it's shelved with mystery books as there is always something going on in each book to be solved. Very good series!!

I always love my yearly visit with Spenser. I'm going to be so sad when all the ones RBP had in the pipeline before he died are all exhausted.

Sheila Beaumont (sheilabeaumont) | 18 comments I read the whole range of mysteries, from cozy to hard-boiled, also thrillers (Lee Child, Jeffery Deaver, Linwood Barclay, Dean Koontz, etc.), YA (Diane Duane, Tamora Pierce), children's (Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series, Brandon Mull's Fablehaven, Diana Wynne Jones, Eva Ibbotson), and fantasy (Mercedes Lackey, Charles de Lint). And I enjoy rereading the Harry Potter books.

Denise | 618 comments I am sick of seeing Book Yourself Solid: The Fastest, Easiest, and Most Reliable System for Getting More Clients Than You Can Handle Even if You Hate Marketing and Selling on my currently reading shelf so I am working on finishing it. Also I picked a couple more off my TBR library stack that are non-mysteries to read. I need to sit down and peruse them before I decide which to read first. They are: City of Joy and A Dirty Job. City of Joy I came across while I was reading Patrick Swayze's biography. He made a movie based on the book and from what he said I decided to read the book. The book is about a district in Calcutta India no larger than three football fields where 70,000 people live in abject poverty, their cramped hovels invaded by pestilence and filth. Mere survival is an everyday miracle.

Heidi, this is a great book! I've read the first 4 or 5 in this series and then for some reason I got bored with it. I keep meaning to go back to it and read the rest, but the first book is wonderful.
