I read that book a month or so ago, Jennifer, and I can't stop recommending it to everybody! It's definitely going to be on my list of "best books read in 2012" :)
I just re-read "The Collaborators" by Reginald Hill. I read it last year, but very quickly, and I knew it deserved another read. I have always enjoyed Hill's "Dalziel & Pascoe" novels, but this is quite different: set in Paris during the Second World War it tells the story/ies of what different people are prepared to do to survive, and on what terms. I must admit that, if I'm not reading a murder mystery, I have to keep reminding myself to NOT wait for the corpse and the puzzle, but this is a really good read (and there are, in fact, both corpses and puzzles aplently) but it's not a "cozy". I'm glad I went back to it: not all books can stand a second reading, this certainly did.

I read so many genres. I just finished
and
... which might or might not be considered mysteries. Now I'm reading
which is fascinating.
Vannetta -- I have The Light Between the Oceans on my to-read list... glad to hear you are enjoying it!I'm currently reading
Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail and listening to
Dombey and Son as an audiobook while I wait for
Hercule Poirot's Christmas to arrive at my library...
recently finished The Greater Journey by David McCullough, and raved about it to everyone, it was great. also finished one of Anne Perry's latest, The Sunless Sea, which was a bit too graphic to be considered a cozy, but it was certainly a worthwhile read.

leslie ... It's oneof the best written books I've read in a very long ime.
Just finished a steamy paranormal-romance novella by Jeaniene Frost, Night's Darkest Embrace. A good, quick read if you like books about demons and fantasy realms.
Am now finishing up a 3-in-1 anthology, Holiday Hideout.

I just finished The Pot Thief Who Studied Billie the Kid. Excellent reading, and a couple of things made me laugh out loud.
Just finished
by John Grisham. Happy to say I think he is back to his old self after several disappointing novels. Now, moving on to all the Christmas themed novels/cozies stacked up and read to go for challenges.
I finished The Violinist's Thumb: And Other Lost Tales of Love, War, and Genius, as Written by Our Genetic Code the other day and loved it! Really excellent book and well written. Recommend to any science lovers.
I've been reading some quick Christmas reads An Amish Christmas,The Christmas Bus and a few others but now I'm reading Save Me, Santa and finally Needful Things which isn't Christmas themed but I never did get to read it in October.
When I am not reading a cozy, I like a good romance novel or just a story with a good plot and likeable characters.
I love reading Christmas-themed books this time of year, but while a few in Mount TBR are mysteries, the majority are romance.
Just finished A Wallflower Christmas by Lisa Kleypas yesterday, a good historical-romance. Lots of sappy Christmastime romance, but some humorous scenes as well. I've now started another short romance Christmas story, Under the Mistletoe by Jill Shalvis (I needed another "U" book!), with Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor by Lisa Kleypas waiting in the wings. Maybe I'll get to one of those mysteries after that. *G*

am currently reading The Brutal Telling by Louise Penny. this is a mystery, but not a cozy. Louise Penny is a good bet for mystery lovers, I'm told, and judging by the 1st half of this book, the advice I got was sound.
Currently, I'm reading a lot of Dickens! Started off with his Xmas short stories and moved into his novels...

I say right now I will probably read another at some point, but there are several other books on my plate. it is hard for any writer of a series to keep up the quality you get to expect in every one, don't you think? I've noticed even some of the best don't have an A+ read all the time.
I just started The Alchemy of Murder by Carol McCleary. This is her first novel, and I think I'm going to love it. It features Nellie Bly and other characters who were well-known at the time, all used fictitiously. The setting is Paris in the late 1800s, a fascinating time.
I'm reading The Fire Rose by Mercedes Lackey. It's actually a cozy--although it's a fantasy cozy. Romance. I think back in the day it was written, if you compared it to today's genres it would be paranormal romance, but cozy so far. Nothing explicit, just a mystery/romance with a touch of magic thrown in.

Baen is going through getting their ebooks uploaded to B&N and Amazon so things are kind of in flux. Let me see if I can find it...
Yes, it still is on their site:http://www.baen.com/author_catalog.as...
Scroll down to see it: The Fire Rose. They have the ebook still available. I don't know if it is already available on other bookstore sites yet!

Gotcha. And no problem with Baen at all, I prefer to buy my ebooks there, if I can (the last one, the last McMaster's book).

I started to read a cozy mystery by a new-to-me author last week, was only a chapter into it when the tragedy in Conn. happened. I tried, but just couldn't get into chapter two after that, so ended up setting it aside for another holiday-themed romance, Yule Be Mine, a 4-in-1 anthology by Lori Foster.
@Marisa, Me too, I like Baen! The Fire Rose is one of her older books; a bit slow and repetitive in places (I think it must be one of her first ones) but the plot is good. Have you read All the Paths of Shadow by Frank Tuttle? If I recall, you commented on my blog and picked it up when it went on sale (got it from his publisher site?) What did you think of it??
Heather L wrote: "I started to read a cozy mystery by a new-to-me author last week, was only a chapter into it when the tragedy in Conn. happened. I tried, but just couldn't get into chapter two after that, so ended..."Heather, we know what you mean. There simply aren't words.

It's in my ereader and my TBR... I hope to read it on Christmas (now I'm a bit overloaded at work but I begin my holidays on Friday, so I think I'll be able to read it (now I try not to sleep on my keyboard).

I hope you have a wonderful holiday!!
Some good non-cozy reads that I've finished recently and recommend include Rainwater and The Bartender's Tale. I'm currently reading the very funny memoir, Enslaved by Ducks and am enjoying it.
Beth wrote: "I'm currently reading the very funny memoir, Enslaved by Ducks and am enjoying it."I read that when it first came out and found myself laughing a lot :) The author has another book out, something to do with cats/kitties? Oh here it is, Kitty Cornered: How Frannie and Five Other Incorrigible Cats Seized Control of Our House and Made It Their Home. I haven't read it yet, but it's on my list!
I just finished The Parrot Talks In Chocolate, which I chose because I needed a book set in Hawaii for a reading challenge :) I thought it was a cozy mystery, but it wasn't a mystery at all LOL I enjoyed the book, and will probably look for the next in the series at some point down the road.
I'm reading Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher, very good. I just finished Winter Solstice by her, excellent book that made me put Scotland on my bucket list.I read a lot of WWII, Holocaust, and Resistance books, both fiction and non fiction.
Elizabeth, I enjoyed The Shellseekers by Pilcher, but have to admit, I thought Winter Solstice was bogus, very disappointed. not the scenery mind you, but the story itself.
like you, I have a lot of interest in WWII and related stories. have you read the chronicles Brock and Bodie Thoene have done? they are very well researched, well written. they have won a lot of awards. these are fiction.

No, I haven't read them, I'll add them to my list.
I admit the relationships in Winter Solstice weren't realistic but I still liked the message of dwelling in the possibility of healing. I think Coming Home is better, and I have the Shell Seekers in my TBR list.
Just finished two romances: Holly Lane by Toni Blake (love this series!) and A Winter Bride by Meredith Webber.
I love memoirs. But I'll read almost anything that looks interesting -- try to stay away from a lot of violence though (well, I am in the Cozy reading group, duh...). If you check out my book list, it's pretty varied.
