I have a sneaking fondness for Fantasy (Mercedes Lackey is a favorite) and Urban Witchcraft. I want to live in Debora Geary's Witch Central community in Berekley, Ca., or maybe I could work for Merlin in Shanna Swendson's New York City...if only!

I'm at the end of Lies of Convenience by M.M. Gornell. I'm very impressed with this author. This is the second I've read in her Route 66 mysteries and I can't wait for her next one. Excellent writer.
I am (still!!) reading Ulysses and R.L. Stevenson's The Black Arrow (historical fiction adventure story set during the War of the Roses).

I've just read To Love a Witch
(free for Kindle), a short tale, and it has been a very nice reading. I'm going to get the first one in her novels: A Modern Witch

Finally finished
. It took me months and am glad to be finally done with it. Will definitely not be reading more!

I'm currently making my way through the Black Dagger Brotherhood books by J.R. Ward starting with
Dark Lover. I'm currently on the second book: Lover Eternal
. And it's better than the first. The first had a lot of world creation stuff to do. This one seemed to get to the story faster, but it's answering some of my questions about the world too.
I loved Soulless but I think the audiobook narrator made it even more awesome for me. Steam punk is not for everyone! I loved the Black Dagger books until about book 9 and then I lost interest!
I just finished John Connolly's The White Road. I liked it, but not as much as some of the others. It's very dark. I will need to read a few cozies now!
Finished The Casual Vacancy. I wasn't sure I was going to like this one after the first 20 pages or so, but am glad I stuck with it. Though it was a bit difficult to keep characters straight at first, it definitely got better, and I really wanted to know how it would end.
Now reading: The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, another group read.

I love history and historical fiction. Am currently reading "The Lincoln Conspiracy" by Timothy L. O'Brien.
Had difficulty sleeping last night and ended up reading until 4am and finishing Hill House. Good thing I didn't have to work this morning! Sooo tired and achey today. Time to pick a couple cozies off my October reading list...
I did that Wednesday night! I had just finished reading Hard Bitten and picked up the next in the series, Drink Deep. Couldn't put it down until I was finished! Paid for it the next morning tho...

Enjoy!
Thank you, Beth! I'm going to give them a try. At this moment I'm reading Captain Vorpatril's Alliance
and I'm liking a lot Ivan's story.

My non-cozy reads right now are The Emperor's Tomb and Hurricanes in Paradise. I'm really enjoying both!
Finished four this week:
Viola in Reel Life -- everything I read by this author delights me. I finished
Brava, Valentine last month and it had a holiday family dinner meltdown scene that was so funny and riveting I couldn't have stopped reading it long enought to take my hand off a hot burner. Picked this one up last week and it was simply delightful.
The Wedding Quilt: An Elm Creek Quilts Novel another good outing in this series, which, for the uninitiated, tends to alternate between historicals based on the ancestors of the current characters and books about the current characters. It's an interesting approach to a series and the books are thoroughly enjoyable.
The Paris Wife I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would, given that I think Hemingway was a misogynistic ass.
Her Highness, the Traitor. I always enjoy Higginbotham but I liked her earlier four better than this one. (But I'm fed to the teeth with the Tudors, and in fact wouldn't have read this if H hadn't written it.)Currently reading:
Maid in Waiting, which is book 7 in what is probably my all-time favorite series and a RARE reread for me,
One Day, which I'm having a hard time caring about, and closing in on the end of
Kitty Foyle, which for you old-movie buffs out there is the book on which the Ginger Rogers film was based.

@Rachel -- I'm right there with you! I just read a bunch of Baroness Orczy this past summer.Who is your favorite historical mystery author?
I'm reading Persephone Cole and the Halloween Curse which I honestly think might be a cozy except Persephone is a PI and Drawing Blood which was offered to me in exchange for a review.

I should have known better. I don't like stories set in this time period anyway.
Started Haven by Kay Hooper last night before bed. It's been a long time between "Bishop" novels, and so far this one has not disappointed.
Reading Introducing the Richest Family in America. Kind of a crazy story but I want to see how it ends. Should finish it up today.

Are you aware there is another one at the end of November?

Marisa: Yup, friend and I are eagerly awaiting it. I finished Haven early this nmorning. Overall I liked it. There was quite the surprise twist at the end, though I did guess who the killer was.
Now I've plucked a slightly older romance from Mount TBR, Unexpected Bride by Lisa Childs -- it's a "U" book.

Finished Postmortem by Patricia Cornwell -- her first Scarpetta. My first by her, definitely not the last.
Am now (re)reading The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. I wanted to read it again before the first movie comes out next month, and it is the November classic group read for TNBBC here at GR.

Loved the Scarpetta books up until about BLACK NOTICE. Then they just got steadily weirder and she started to believe all her own publicity!

ROFL... Sadly, there are a LOT of popular authors like that. :-\

Currently reading The Secret Keeper and Uneasy Spirits. The Secret Keeper is fabulous and the pages are just flying by. Uneasy Spirits - not so much. Kind of bored, to tell the truth but I am going to finish it.
I'm currently reading Stars Collide by Janice Thompson. Not that far into yet, but pretty good so far.
I finished A Not So Model Home last night. Everything about it screams cozy, but let me tell you, it most certainly isn't. It's not a bad story, but the author seems to make a personal challenge with himself to see how vulgar he could get in a light mystery story. Just comes across as silly and adolescent.
I just finished
The Anatomist's Wife which is an atmospheric historical mystery set in 1830 Scotland. I loved it, great storytelling!
I have just finished War Brides
. It was a good book and well written, but not what I expected. I had thought the war would be a main character. Instead, it was a wonderful relationship novel, with the war as a backdrop. I think it's a generational thing. Many of my friends mothers and nearly all of my grade school teachers were war brides. My expectations were a story more in line with those I heard growing up.
