When you're not reading a cozy....

Finished Colorado Dawn [bookcover:..."
I have to admit I was little nervous about reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society since it was a gift from my mom and we really don't see eye to eye on books. However, I really enjoyed it. It is well written as a series of letters and notes, from and to the main character. It is well laid out chronologically and very well written.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is one of my all-time favorite books. Can't recommend it enough!
Am currently about halfway through The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. Have seen the 1960 movie two or three times, but this is the first I've actually read the book. It is one of the June group reads for "The Next Best Book Club" here at GR. Yup, getting a jump on things for a change, lol.
Actually, I'm just anxious to get back to my Patricia Briggs books and don't want any interruptions for a while when I do. *G*

Heather pointed me towards the Guernsey Literary... on audio and I can't recommend the audio version highly enough! Excellent, truly excellent! (Although I had to ff through a few sections about animals during the war.)

That being said, I did like the book. It brought back memories of reading "The Scarlett Letter" for a debate team. Good book, but not a cozy to me. Any colonial/Native American history fans might should try it. Some aspects of the story are based on fact making even it more interesting to me. Well written. Not a cozy but also not a thriller. A good mystery. Has anyone else read this?

Finished The Time Machine last Thursday. A short, fast read and pretty good, too.
Finished Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs late (really late) Saturday night.
Spent most of Sunday reading Silver Borne by Patrcia Briggs.
Currently reading: River Marked by (you guesssed it) Patrcia Briggs. Two more to go by her after this one!

LOL....sometimes girls just have to be girls... I have done the same thing.

I finished Robert Crais, The First Rule Thriller, tough-guy book.

I LOVE Robert Crais! The Elvis Cole & Joe Pike books are first rate!
Maria: You're a little behind. ;-)
I read Alpha & Omega: A Companion Novella to Cry Wolf and Cry Wolf not quite two weeks ago, before I switched back to the Mercy series. I have the last two A&O books at top of the TBR pile.
Am about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way through River Marked. Had a nasty headache yesterday that prevented me from doing much reading.

FINISHED SINCE LAST WEEK:
River Marked by Patricia Briggs (paranormal/urban fantasy; Mercy Thompson #6)
Happily Never After by Jeaniene Frost (vampire novella)
Reckoning by Jeaniene Frost (vampire novella)
Devil to Pay by Jeaniene Frost (vampire novella)
Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs (paranormal/urban fantasy; Alpha and Omega #2)
Fair Game by Patricia Briggs (paranormal/urban fantasy; Alpha and Omega #3)
CURRENTLY READING:
Already Home by Vicki Lewis Thompson (romance novella, Sons of Chance #6.5)
Plum Lovin' by Janet Evanovich (romance)
Hunting Ground had my favorite opening of all the Patricia Briggs books. I don't want to ruin anything for those who might be interested in reading the series (and I DO recommend reading the Mercy and A&O books in order), but absolutely loved it. Am now caught up on all of the Mercy and A&O books.
Already Home is a novella offered for free during May and June by VLT. It is available for both Nook and Kindle. Search on the title if interested. It is a prequel to her next trio of books in the "Sons of Chance" series. I will probably finish that tonight before going on to finish Plum Lovin'. I read the first two chapters last night only because I couldn't sleep, and didn't feel like powering up the Nook again.
Next up will be a cozy or two...
(Sorry I've been scarce the past week. A chainsaw wielding idiot took out the power on our block Tues, and my home computer--which I was on at the time--with it. I'm trying to convince myself that it is okay to charge repairs to the credit card, which isn't easy seeing as I'm trying to save money to move at end of July. OTOH, not having computer access from home is hampering the apartment search. Sigh...)

Convince yourself that it is okay to charge the repairs to the credit card - of the chainsaw wielding idiot who fried your computer. :)

I'm reading a YA - Outside In. I read the first book in this series a couple of years ago Inside Out when the author was at Pennwriters Conference. She was a key-note speaker this year. Liked that one, expect to like this one. Of course, I then gift them to my granddaughter!

I thoroughly enjoyed '1776'. For being straight history, it is a readable as fiction, IMHO.

I'm enjoying it very much but I'm only 50 pages into it. It reminds me of the Harry Potter books although I want to finish it before I still my neck out too far. Some books let down after a brilliant beginning.

The "bad guy" reveal was well done and the ending was carried through very well, instead of everything being wrapped up and revealed in two pages. Good Mystery.

Wow, sounds like it is excellently written. Glad you enjoyed it so much.

Thanks Kaye, I primarily read cozy mysteries so this was a risk for me. I also have never tried Karen Robards before. It is a "FEEL" book. You feel the thick Louisiana air, the heat of the passion, the ache in your heart, and you definitely feel the fear. I will be trying another by Ms. Robards when I run across one.

I've really enjoyed the first 3 in the series (gotta get back to those!) and hope you do too!

Finished Colorado Dawn
Heh, it could turn out to be a mixed blessing if it becomes my favorite read of the year. Here's why. Every year I'm doing a challenge that involves spelling out the title of my favorite read from the previous year. At this point, next year's is going to be The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which is bad enough. I can't imagine what I'd do if it turned out to be 11/22/63.
