Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments I finished A Discovery of Witches and I loved it! It was a wonderful story. I can't wait for the 2nd book to come out. I have passed it on to my sister but I can't wait to read it again.

I also finished A Cold Day for Murder. It was quite good. It was a little heavy on the language so I wouldn't consider it a cozy, but still a great mystery. I think this is a series I will really enjoy. It was recommended on the Amazon Kindle community board as a "if you liked this you might like this" thread. It was listed as being similar to Nevada Barr's series...which I loved.

Linda Klinedinst (linda_klinedinst) | 113 comments I am reading Blood Fury (Wilderness, No. 4) by David Thompson . Sometimes I like to read Westerns and my Library has this Whole Series. It is Book #4 in the Wilderness Series. They didn't have Books 1 - 3 on the shelf so I got Book #4. These are easy to read and the book is not very big either.

I haven't tried Nevada Barr yet, but it is on my list. And I got this title when it was free for Kindle. I'm thinking it might be a nice one to save for when I'm complaining about the summer heat :-) But I'm definitely looking forward to it! Glad to hear it is good!

alicia grant (shesha556) I have put away the cozies for a bit until i can get my library fee down to a respectful level. So am reading some book from my bookshelf at home finally. I am reading The Strange Power, The Possessed, The Passion (Dark Visions, #1-3) by L.J. Smith

Nevada Barr's Anna Pigeon is really good. She spins a good tale. Anna is a very strong character who really develops over the series. If you like Kathy Reichs' Temperance Brennan you will probably like Anna Pigeon. The National Park settings are always great too. A co-worker of mine vacations on Isle Royal and met Nevada Barr several years ago.

I only read one Nevada Barr and for some reason it just didn't grab me. I'd give the books another try if I didn't already have such a huge pile to read...

Beth | 616 comments I finally started reading the The Millennium Trilogy, which I received for Christmas. I have already seen the movie of the first book, and I think that's making the initial slow part more interesting for me. I'm getting the backstory of characters I already know something about. I'm prepared to skip the icky parts, though!

Caroline | 661 comments Don't think it would be considered a cozy - just finished reading Death Along the Spirit Road (Manny Tanno) by C. M. Wendelboe and really enjoyed it. About a Lakota FBI agent who has to return to his home reservation to solve a murder and the situations/issues he faces. Excellent book and, if you like Craig Johnson, C.M. Wendelboe credits him as his mentor wo you will definitely enjoy this one.

Mary I also like some historical fiction. John Jakes is one of my favorites. ANd I am trying to get through the Anne of Green Gables series. I think I have read the first 3 or 4.
But mostly if I am not reading a cosy I am crafting - card making, knitting or counted cross stitch.

Hi Mary--I don't knit, but I've been wanting to look into that card making stuff. Not that I need another hobby--I already garden and *attempt* to sew...then there's cooking and baking...

Mary Card making is a great stress reliever and in an age of electronic messaging there is just something about a card that is special. The person took the time to pick out a card (or make one) not just a second to shoot off a message.
I have a blog of a lot of my cards
Mary's Tales if you would like to check it out. You might catch the fever ! I started the blog before I was hooked on cardmaking - hence the name is not exactly descriptive of the content.

Maria Schneider (bearmountainbooks) | 191 comments Ooh, I love those cupcake ones! Those are just gorgeous. My SIL makes cards too. I love getting them from her. When she sends them to me for my birthday, she is nice enough to use an easy peel sticker with her personal message--that way I can reuse them!!! She won't make them for various people to give away because she doesn't want the work, but I love that she makes them re-usable, at least one time. It really is a special treat to receive such a thoughtful card.

Maggie (ceodraiocht) | 17 comments When I'm not reading Cozy Mysteries - I do some mystery but mostly fantasy. I'll add my vote to the positives for A Discovery of Witches and Charlaine Harris's gentle cozies that aren't Sookie. Have also just finished 2 of Sharon Shinn's Samaria series and they're a great read, distinctly different from her 12 Houses series which is more a "swords and horses" style fantasy. So far, Seanan McGuire is also writing some good urban fantasy that's not sex obsessed (as, unfortunately a lot is). I've read her first four books over the last few weeks as well.

These are actually rereads for me. I have not read the books since fifth grade, and don't think I read them all even then. Book one certainly didn't seem familair. I've been wanting to (re)read the entire series since The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe hit theaters. I have all but the 6th book, The Silver Chair -- I acidentally acquired two of The Magician's Nephew as some collections have it numbered as book one (order they should be read) and some as book six (the order they were actually written). Shoot...I knew there was something I wanted to look for when I was out near Frugal Muse bookstore this afternoon. Rats!

I would love to reread these some day. It was one of my favorite series of books!

I am also a cardmaker and cross-stitcher. I just uploaded a couple of sympathy cards (I have needed four of these already this year!) to post Sunday and Monday on my blog.

For the other, I currently have a couple of projects going. One is a small pic of a cat hanging from a tree branch that says, "hang in there." I was asked to make this for someone I know, as she is unable to do needlework anymore. The problem is, she spilled perfume on the package, or had it stored with some, and it absolutely reeks, even after nine washings, so I am having difficulty working on it.

And for myself, I am stitching "The Starry Night," which is A LOT of work. I should probably take a pic to post, even though it doesn't look like much right now. "The Starry Night" is one of my favorite works of art. I could have stood and stared at it forever when I saw it at the Musee Dorsay in Paris. Also love the song based on it.

Judy (julianka) | 38 comments I'm reading The Terror by Dan Simmons and it's lonnnnnnng! Because of that I got the audio book from the library so I can go back and forth between reading and listening (I usually listen to audio books while I'm cross stitching.)

EDITED TO ADD: After posting this I noticed Heather's post above me. Funny that we both mentioned cross stitching!

Sherry | 137 comments Heather, a trick that sometimes works is to take some coffee grounds and seal the item up with them. (Maybe take a large sealable container, put some coffee grounds in a smaller box or bowl, lay the cross stitch kit beside the container of coffee, and seal the whole thing up inside the large container.) I have known this to work with some really bad odors - but, of course, if you don't like the smell of coffee, this might not help much!

LOL -- thanks. That was part of the Artzoobilee exhibit that was at the Vilas Zoo last summer. There were 30-some different fiberglass animals painted and on display from May-Sept. In October, the animals were cleaned and repaired for a charity auction, with proceeds benefitting the zoo and American Family Children's Hospital. I took a lot of pictures of the animals, which I have been sharing since last fall, and only have a few more to post.

Oh, and thanks for the compliments on the cards. I've been making my own for more than ten years now. It can be an expensive hobby, but I am thoroughly addicted. I also do scrapbooking, which uses a lot of the same supplies.

Baking soda might be a good replacement for the coffee. I used it inside a lettuce keeper that I unfortunately forgot had lettuce in it. (SMELL!) I waited a week and the smell was all gone.

Baking soda will work, coffee works, and charcoal will work. Since you don't mind the smell of coffee you might want to buy some just for this purpose. We have a vacation home and somebody left milk in the fridge.....for months! Coffee worked like a charm.

Kait Carson | 182 comments I'm trying to expand my reading and venturing into thriller, romance and lite chicklit so right now I'm reading reading Summer at Willow Lake Summer At Willow Lake. As a reader, I'm enjoying it. As a writer, I'm finding the technique disconcerting and wondering if there isn't a better way to handle the flashbacks. The writer in me might have preferred a trilogy. The reader, however, has no complaints and is thrilled that I don't have to wait a publication cycle to find out what happens to any one group of folks. Over all, job well done and I would highly recommend for a beach read!
