When you're not reading a cozy....

FINALLY finished Villette. It was good, but took much longer to get through than I liked. So glad to have it behind me, so I can move onto other books.

Get a big box of Kleenex. The first time I read this I was about 11 or 12. Read Dearest Debbie, the book she wrote about her adopted Korean daughter who was killed in a bus crash, right after. Beautiful books that will make you cry for sure. I still have my original copies.

This was my mom's original copy that I read. I did not know about the book Dearest Debbie, I would definitely like to read it. Thanks for the recommendation!

Count me amongst those who love this book. In fact, the only Austen I don't like is Emma.

I read that a few weeks ago. I thought it was a promising 1st book though based on the ending, I don't know where French will go with the series (having not looked at the blurbs of the later books)!
I am reading a classic Brideshead Revisited in print and listening to a science fiction Neuromancer in audiobook.

I know Jacky is not for everyone but I loved the entire series

I have enjoyed them so far. I have checked out the audio to listen to while reading this one. I think you had recommended the audio for this series before.

Oh yay! I hope you like the narration.

(Really wonder what his mother did to him to make him such a woman-hater.)

I believe I have that somewhere in Mount TBR, and have seen the movie a couple times. Would certainly be interesting to see how they compare.

Started reading a Christmas-themed romance yesterday, All I Want for Christmas is You by Lisa Mondello, which I picked up for free on the Nook ereader.

About half-way through,

MaryJo, I read that book when I was in HS. Can't say I remember a lot about it, but I do remember liking it -- and I generally don't care for memoir/biography.

I have book 1 in my TBR stack. If you haven't read Emma Jane Holloway's The Baskerville Affair I highly recommend the trilogy. Steampunk meets urban fantasy meets Sherlock Holmes. The main character is related to Sherlock and Mycroft.

It has been moved up in the stack. I will probably read a cozy or a classic whodunit before that. I am 50% done with Wyrd Sisters. Wow had I forgotten most of what happened in that book.

The second book isn't quite as captivating as the first, but I'm still enjoying it.

Loved that one too. But yes, a lot going on. I may have to get back to Pratchett eventually. I have a lot on the kindle, but have recently started rereading Trollope, as I originally read fifty of his novels without a break to read someone else. I tend to be a bit obsessive :)

I have been reading through the Oz series this year in between other books and have really enjoyed them.

Love the OZ series, wish more of Ruth Plumley Thompson's additions to the series were available in Ebook format. I think I have most of them in paperback from when Del Rey released them many years ago.
