When you're not reading a cozy....
Am about to start Sons and Lovers by D.H. Lawrence for a classic group read and my banned book for the "Ultimate" challenge. Here's hoping I can get through it before end of the month!
Just finished listening to The Turn of the Screw, with eBook

Well, I made it about half way through (finished Book 1, started Book 2) over the weekend. Didn't get quite as much read as hoped as ended up spending a lot of time at a friend's house helping to rake up monster crabapples. At least there are half as many as the last few years.
Her one tree (planted by previous house owners) produces fruit the size of golf balls -- which means having to rake them up in order to mow her side yard. Last year it took us three weekends to get them all, which her brother took to a farm where he spends a lot of weekends. This year? We already got most of them up, and there aren't many left on the tree. I usually end up helping rake leaves about mid-October, too.

Since everybody seems to be talking about it, I've decided to start with The Maze Runner by James Dashner.
I am reading
, I am about halfway through it and am liking it. I like her stories because they are about everyday people with a twist.
I finished Orange Is the New Black and an ARC of The Word Game. I just started The Little Paris Bookshop.

I just hope that Kinsey gets a HEA. I also hope that Sue Grafton continues to write. It would be a real loss if she retires.
I'm still trudging my way through The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. I'm not sure I can say I hate it, but I'm not enjoying it and it is not an easy read. On the bright side, I am also reading my way through the Trixie Belden series so that helps a little.
I'm just beginning The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary
Just finished reading my interlibrary loan, Shame by Salman Rushdie. (One of the 1000 Books You Should Read Before You Die challenge.)https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
When I'm not reading a cozy I'm usually reading something in the fantasy/supernatural genre. Currently reading Games Creatures Play which is an anthology of with Charlaine Harris.
Sometimes I read sci-fi or paranormal books. Like Doctor Who or the Dresden files. Sometimes Rogue Angel series. Or nonfiction of real ghosts/paranormal events of books, mostly in my state where I live now.

How far are you in the series? I've heard that the later books are hard to find, and very expensive too...

I used to have the whole set when I was younger but I gave them to my niece several years ago. I may have to borrow some of the later ones from her when I see her at Christmas.

And neither do they have a lot of cozy mysteries, you can find Agatha Christie books but that's about it.
Lynn wrote: "I'm just beginning The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary"Lynn, I finished this a little over a week ago. The title was what drew my attention, but I found it very interesting. Hope you enjoy it...

Yes, the later books in the series are extremely difficult to find. I still have all my books, save for three near the end that I missed. I have never been able to find them, no matter how often I haunt local used bookstores. They started reissuing the series in hardcover in the early 2000's, but I think only the first twelve were ever released.

I just finished the 3rd (and final) book in the Maze Runner trilogy: The Death Cure.
My full review of this book can be found HERE.
Blessed to receive an advance reader's copy of The Guilty by David Baldacci. Loving it! He's one of my all time favorite authors. I enjoy cozies but take frequent breaks from them.
When I'm not reading a cozy, I like to read horror or true crime. The last non-cozy I read was Dynamic Communication Skills for Women by Carla Brown. I'm mentoring a student & I was looking for ideas for her & ended up reading the whole book!
Finally finished Sons and Lovers this week. Took a lot longer than I was hoping it would. Good writing, but the middle lagged and the ending is truly depressing. In any case, that's one more item done for the Ultimate challenge (banned book).
I just finished reading
and it was very good. A real quick read because there was so much happening that I could not put it down.
Just finished my pick-it-for-me read: Blackwater Lights
by Michael M. Hugheshttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just finished Yellow Crocus. An antebellum novel set in the deep South, partly told from a black slave girl's POV and partly from her white owner's POV. Good read. Enjoyed the two perspectives--which were not what you might suppose!
My daughter and I have just finished 12 seasons of Agatha Christie's Poirot on Netflix. Looking forward to season 13. David Suchet does a great job as Poirot.
Kristin wrote: "Sometimes I read sci-fi or paranormal books. Like Doctor Who or the Dresden files. Sometimes Rogue Angel series. Or nonfiction of real ghosts/paranormal events of books, mostly in my state where I ..."I enjoy those books too!! I have tons on my TBR and den floor to read!!
I am reading Teresa Burrell's Advocate series..got them as free ebooks and they r pretty good! Category: Legal Suspense (with a touch of romance.)
Warning: Sabre (MC) is an advocate for juveniles and I have to skip some of the heartbreaking details of their sad situations, especially in book 3..which is where I am now.
Well after nearly a year of reading it off-and-on, I finally finished Middlemarch
by George Eliothttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Congrats on finishing, Kristin! I was planning to read that for a quarterly group read and never seemed to find the time to get to it.
Heather L wrote: "Congrats on finishing, Kristin! I was planning to read that for a quarterly group read and never seemed to find the time to get to it."Yeah, I started for the quarterly group read in another group and it took me this long! It's well worth it, @Heather L!
Just finished reading my Kindle Unlimited rental, Chimera
by N.J. Tangerhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Reading Donna Kauffman's Snowflake Bay, a light romance set on the coast of Maine. Very good so far. The family McCrae :).
Finished reading
this week. This is my second read of Morton's and it was well worth my time, although The Secret Keeper would have to be my favorite of the two. There is a mystery, and sometimes more than one, in both of these books, so I assume her others follow the same format.
