I think this must be the newest in the series as I checked it out from the new books section of my local library...have enjoyed most of that series.

Thanks, Lynn and Jennifer. I didn't get very far into it over the weekend, so hopefully I can spend some time with Thursday tonight.

That is a great series. Enjoy! :)

I just got done with Robin Hobb's Assassin's Apprentice and just started Royal Assassin. I'm really enjoying this series.

I love Veronica. I listened to this on audiobook because Kristen Bell narrated and she did a great job.

Lynn, Jennifer, Christina and Teresa -- Finished The Eyre Affair last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Will definitely be looking for the next couple of Thursday books. It had me pulling out my tattered copy of Jane Eyre for a re-read. I wasn't planning to read that one again in the near future, but hey -- I do still need a "classic romance" for the "Ultimate" book challenge. Now, do I count The Eyre Affair as "a popular author's first book" or "a funny book"? Decisions, decisions...

I read Jane Eyre and hated it. Then I read The Eyre Affair on the recommendation of a friend. After finishing it I decided to go back and re-read Jane Eyre and loved it. I felt sorry for Mr. Rochester and sympathized with him more.

message 5416: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 88 comments I finished Frankenstein last night. It was okay but I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

I started The Brothers Karamazov for the Ultimate Reading Challenge. I'm hoping that in the years since I couldn't finish it in school it has improved (or at least my perceptions of it have improved). I decided to tackle this one next for the challenge. Once I get through it, I'll reward myself with Pride and Prejudice.

I first read Jane Eyre when I was 14 and loved it, had to reread it again in college, but it's been a long time since that second reading. I did remember most of the events alluded to in The Eyre Affair, so will be interesting to see what I don't remember. I got through chapter four last night, and am up to her entrance at Lowood.

I didn't enjoy Frankenstein, either. The letter prologues was especially confusing -- I didn't realize at first they were part of the narrative and had to go back and read them. Still, I'm glad to have experienced the "real" story, not what most people know of it from Hollywood -- which has little in common with the actual book.

Good luck with "TBK"!

Yay! Glad to hear you enjoyed it. After reading it, I went out and bought the rest of the series in hardcover (used). I've read up to The Well of Lost Plots. They are SO fun to read! :)

I thought it was really interesting! It is just a small piece of the people's lives, kind of like a condensed mini-biography. Definitely learned some things I didn't know before.

I read Jane Eyre and hated it. I read The Eyre Affair and loved it, but I still think Jane Eyre is one of the worst books ever written. I dislike Wuthering Heights as much. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is only marginally less torture. I am just not a fan of the Brontes. But I love Jasper Fforde, especially the episodes in Book World. I love the idea of the characters having lives outside the books.

I read Wuthering Heights earlier this year and liked it. It wasn't a happy book but I enjoyed reading it.

Read WUTHERING HEIGHTS when I was an overly romantic 13-year-old and thought it was wonderful. I have no doubt whatsoever if I were to read it again it would make me barf! LOL

I read it earlier this year. I didn't think it was quite as good as Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe but it was worth reading. Enjoy!

I'm trying listening to Rabbit, Run because it's John Updike's first novel but I'll just say it's not The Witches of Eastwick.

Lynn, Teresa and Melodie --

I've read Jane Eyre twice previously and loked it, and am enjoying this third venture as well. Wuthering Heights, on the other hand...I have attempted to rad it twice and have never gotten more than halfway through. I also liked sister Anne's Agnes Grey.

Kirsten (kmcripn) I just finished reading Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The novel is immensely readable. However, it is not the best novel on the subject of World War One (The Great War) I have ever read.

If you only read one novel set during the War To End All Wars, may I suggest you read A Long Long Way by Sebastian Barry instead.

Carla (carla1957) I am reading a romance right now, it is pretty light and I am enjoying it. It is called The Orchard at the Edge of Town (Apple Valley, #3) by Shirlee McCoy . I am also reading Someone Is Watching by Joy Fielding . I have a couple of children's books on the go too, so am trying to keep them all separate.

I started Treasure Island over the weekend for another group's group read. Reads fairly fast, and it's easy to get pulled into the adventure, but did not finish yesterday as hoped. Tonight, for sure!

Alice and Leona: I finished Treasure Island night before last and thought it a great adventure story. It's easy to see why it remains popular, and why it has inspired so many other books and movies. I think I may have seen part of one of the movie versions eons ago, but no idea which adaptation it was. Have not yet seen Muppets in Space, though would like to -- I remember the "Pigs in Space" segments of the original Muppet Show.
