When you're not reading a cozy....
Just finished Still Life
by Louise Penny. Quite a different style from the mysteries I usually read, but enjoyed it a lot, quite a page-turner (in a quiet way). Anyone else enjoy the Inspector Gamache series?(I keep reading his name as 'ganache' - must be tea time... ;) )

I'm a bit behind in the series. The next book I have up in the series is on my Kindle, so it will take me forever to read once I get to it. I dislike reading books on the Kindle!

I didn't like DIVERGENT either, but INSURGENT was better and I actually liked ALLEGIANT.

Is that a new Shoasholic? Last Sophie Kinsella book I read was under a different name, not in the Shopaholic series.
Finished The Hunger Games and Catching Fire and now have about 150 pages left to read in Mockingjay,
I'm reading Murder of Crows now. I liked it a lot the first one and I'm liking it but I need to read in some mood, because they're intense for me.
I just finished up Lost in a Good Book. I think a lot of people would love reading these books, if only there was a way to accurately describe them that would do them justice, lol.
I am reading Can't Wait to Get to Heaven
by Fannie Flagg and really enjoying it, although I am sad because it is the last of 3 in the series. I have so enjoyed this series and have been putting off reading this last one.

I really liked the Thursday Next and Nursery Crimes books, but could never decide how to describe them to others. I have seen them tagged as science fiction and fantasy, but neither of those seemed to fit exactly.

I loved the first one, I began the second one... and returned it to the shop. Nevermore, what he did is a no-no-no for me.

J.A. I have heard people say they liked the movie better than the book for Divergent so keep me updated on your thoughts please :)

Hope you enjoyed the end of the trilogy. The Help is in my own Mount TBR. :-/

Finished two books over the weekend:
1. The Liar by Nora Roberts. Good rom-suspense. I did guess a major plot point, but it was interesting seeing it all come together. This is a single title, but I wonder how many will now be clamoring for Forrest's story?
2. Black Beauty by Anna Sewell, for multiple challenges.

Third book, Mockingjay, for me, was not quite as good as the first two but I was happy with the end, it was what I wanted to happen.
Heather L wrote: "Karen M: That's pretty much how I felt about the third book. ☺"I enjoyed the first book but thought the second went downhill and so I never read the third. It's in the TBR pile. One of these days I'll get to it.
Just finishing up
This was one of the finalists in Canada Reads so I wanted to read it. Not sure how to describe this book, but it has held my interest so far.
Finished reading When Gravity Fails
by George Alec Effinger yesterday.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
It is National Short Story month here in the U.S. so I am reading a couple of collections:The Complete Stories of Evelyn Waugh,
and The Grey Woman And Other Tales,

I thought the tone of the trilogy got darker and bleaker through the three Hunger Games books - loved the first, enjoyed the second, and was exhausted after the third! Same as how I felt about His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman.... :S

I liked the first two, it was just book three...mostly the middle part...I did not like.

I've been reading Gun, With Occasional Music by Jonathan Lethem, a noir detective novel set in a dystopia, where animals and babies are "evolved" and the printed word is outlawed.
Started Out of Sight, Out of Time by Ally Carter last night. I should have known better than to start it before bed. Read half of it before turning off the light, and I would have stayed up reading all night, were it not for the fact I had to get up for work this morning.

I thought maybe my problem with the third book was I went directly into it after finishing the second book. I thought maybe I was all post-apocalyptic/distopianed out but now I think the third one just wasn't as good as the first two.
So for something different, since I have been too much in that genre lately, I decided to read a cozy and I also turned to Fannie Flagg and The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion.
Heather L wrote: "Finished Out of Sight, Out of Time last night, and have now started Betrayed by Lisa Scottoline."I enjoyed Betrayed, but it was not one of her best ones in my humble opinion. It has really received mixed reviews. I am looking forward to hearing what you think about it.

I liked the first one the best of the three. I'm looking forward to reading the new one soon!

I can understand the mixed reviews. I thought it was okay. I thought the illegal immigrant plot timely and relevant, and it was nice to see Judy's POV instead of Mary or Bennie's for a change. What has been irritating me about this author's books of late is an editing "nit" I've picked on over the last three books. I don't remember this being an issue in previous books, but then -- it had been a few years before I picked up the last three "Rosato" books.
Many know that one of my biggest peeves is authors who use (and especially overuse the trite and unnecessary "just then." While this author does not use "just then," she has a bad habit of replacing it with "suddenly" -- which isn't any better and just as annoying when it crops up two or three times in the span of a couple of pages. Maybe not something a lot of readers will pick up on, but I find it distracting, and it detracts from those more suspenseful scenes.

Thanks, Carla for mentioning your review. I read it and the book does sound disappointing. Like you, I also enjoyed the other Shopaholic books. As soon as I read Becky was going to Hollywood, I had the thought that the book might not be that great.
