When you're not reading a cozy....
Just finished reading The State Counsellor: Further Adventures of Fandorin
by Boris Akuninhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I enjoy reading all kinds of books, from cozy mysteries to thrillers to hard core mysteries. I also like romance, contemporaries, and some fantasy. I just finished a re-read of Joanne Flukes's Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder because the Hallmark movie is coming out in May. Before that I finished very old Tami Hoag book called Mismatch. As you can see, I am all over the place with my reading!

Starting with the fact that the gal, whose name escapes me at the moment, who's playing Hannah looks absolutely NOTHING like Hannah's supposed to look!

I am halfway through and liking it so far, but I haven't read the Legend books.

Alison Sweeney is playing Hannah and I really like her, so I want to see how she portrays her.

I'm so glad someone else reads this series. Erast is one of my favorite characters ever. I went wild when I found the ones that were not published in the US in bookstores here in Australia. I finished The State Counsellor last November and have The Coronation coming up on my TBR pile.
Lynn - So hard to find! Why are these NOT on Kindle?? I need to get a copy of The Coronation!I discovered this series quite by accident. I normally went to the Kent branch of the King County Library System, but that day I went to the Des Moines branch instead and found Murder on the Leviathan. After I read that one, there was no going back!
Kirsten wrote: "Lynn - So hard to find! Why are these NOT on Kindle?? I need to get a copy of The Coronation!"I found The Winter Queen not long after it was published in the US, but it's been hard to find the rest of them. I really wonder why the series was not continued in the US. The versions of The State Counsellor, The Coronation, He Lover of Death, She Lover of Death, and The Diamond Chariot I finally found were UK editions and weren't easy to find here. I had to go to small independent bookshops. I know they are horribly hard to find in the US.
I've seen them for sale on some Australian bookstore sites as ebooks, though not as Kindle ebooks. I can send you links to those if you'd like to try that route.

I got The State Counsellor by going to betterworldbooks.com.
Just finished listening to Firestorm by Nevada Barr, an Anna Pigeon mystery.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm reading A Proud Taste for Scarlet and Miniver for the book that came out the year you were born task on the 2015 Ultimate Reading Challenge. It's a re-read for me, but I'm looking forward to it as it's been a while.
Kirsten wrote: "I've been reading Middlemarch by George Eliot"I had mixed feelings about that book -- parts I thought very good but Dorothea seemed unreasonable to me. Hope you have a better time with it.
In between cozies this week I read a rom-suspense that fit one of the criteria for the Ultimate Challenge -- Claiming His Family by Ann Voss Peterson. Not only set locally, but written by a local author.
I read "Girl on a Train." I didn't care for the main female character. I think the author was trying to make you feel sorry for her but I found her to be a little on the pathetic side. I did give the book 4 stars though because the surprise ending was good. I hope you enjoy it Kristen.

To me, that's the sign of a pretty good writer when they can keep you turning the pages and the characters have no redeeming qualities!
Right now, I'm reading Catherine of Aragon: The Spanish Queen of Henry VIII. It's an intriguing book with lots of drama.

I loved this one! I think it is probably my favorite one of her books!

I enjoy Sophie Kinsella also. I've read many of her books.
I just finished reading The Swan Thieves. I left a review. It was a good mystery. I started Still Alice. A person I love dearly has Alzheimer's. She was diagnosed in her 50s. It is very unfair. I felt I needed to read this novel.
I know some people will say I'm late to the party, but I am currently reading Naked in Death by JD Robb (it's my "book set in the future"). I like her Nora Roberts books, but not sure how I feel about this one yet -- I'm about halfway through it at the moment.

Guess I'm not really a romance fan.
Lately when I've been hitting e-freebies of the non-cozy genre, most of which I can get through in an hour or two, when I break from cozies. I read a couple of books by Lawrence Block, too.
I've just finished reading The Semi-Attached Couple and highly recommend it for the Austen fans out there (it's not a pastiche, it just has a similar tone and wit).
I enjoy reading such a variety of books. Usually I have 3 books going at a time, all different genres. Once I finish one type of book (ie fantasy for example), my next book will be a good murder mystery/thriller. But I always have a cozy going :)

I personally think that the romance of Eve and Roarke is her best couple. I've never seen the same level of passion in any other couple that NR wrote.
Marisa wrote: "The first three/four "In death" are more a classic romance, the following are more mystery."In Death are more than just a mystery or romance, they can even be considered as police procedurals. I love the detail she uses to create her world.
Also, the progression and evolution of the characters in her series is one of the reasons I love this series.
Just finished listening to A Carrion Death
by Michael Stanleyhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I just started Dead Heat
I always love her books and feel comfortable with the characters. This one will include horses along with the regular cast of werewolves, witches, and fae.

I especially love the audiobooks. Susan Ericksen is incredible at performing (so much more than narration!) these books. I am working at getting a complete collection of the audiobooks via Audible.com
Wow, looks like there are a lot of "In Death" fans in this group. I probably shouldn't be surprised. A friend has the next three in ebook, so I may give them a try eventually.
Read The Ladies of Missalonghi by Colleen McCullough yesterday -- every bit as good as Marisa said it would be, and it was a really fast read as well. Plus, it fit four different challenges: Spring, Monthly Mini, World Trip and Ultimate. Gotta love that! ☺
Am about to start The Sound of Glass by Karen White, a book I won through the GR giveaways.
