When you're not reading a cozy....
I finished Dirty Little Secrets written from the perspective of the teenage daughter of a compulsive hoarder. OMG! How sad. I would highly recommend for everyone.

I've just acquired almost all the Gerald Durrell books & am so looking forward to just diving into them, and then letting my grandson read them -- he loves animals & zoos and wants to be a zoologist when he grows up. I think he'll love Gerald Durrell.
I'll check out those other authors you mentioned -- thanks!
I started The Crazyladies of Pearl Street: A Novel and Alternative Medicine Magazine's Definitive Guide to Sleep Disorders: 7 Smart Ways to Help You Get a Good Night's Rest last night. One fiction, one non, neither a cozy!
Kari wrote: "No I think that maybe a abridgement of his four books, Autumn in America, Wandering Through Winter, North with the Spring and Journey into Summer.Enjoy them"
You're right Kari, & now they're on my wish list too.
I have just finished
which is a cozy, and now plan to read either
The Book of Tomorrow or Children/YA books I am always hearing people talk about.. Nancy Drew !
I found both at the charity shop where I work.. My adult brain says go for the adult book..my inner child says go an an adventure with Nancy! ha,ha...choices, choices

When I was in the 4th grade someone donated a whole set of the ones with the old blue covers to my school's fall festival White Elephant sale and my mom bought them for me. I thought I had the world's greatest treasure!
Started Undead and Unworthy by MaryJanice Davidson early this evening, and am already 117 pages in. The thing I love about her writing style is that it makes for a fun, fast read. Having been reunited with Queen Betsy after a long hiatus, I will probably move right into book 8, Undead and Unwelcome next.

I have to admit I havnt read any Nancy Drew before! The copy I have is white with a girl on the front ..It says inside 'this impression 1983' Since I work at a charity shop I will keep a look out now for older copies! I actually started reading the Cecelia Ahern last night.. I am looking forward to meeting nancy!
Just finished non-fiction Scent of the Missing - by Susannah Charleson. Story of a woman and the puppy she raised to become her Search and Rescue (SAR)dog. It's not a cozy but, if you love dogs, this is great and it's even "mystery-related" in a way because it's about SAR in all kinds of situations. I like animals so I've read Dewey the Library Cat and Wesley the Owl (both true stories of people and animals). I loved all three of these books!

?
I'm reading
and
right now. I'm enjoying both, but I'm HATING the length of Dragonfly in Amber. She's way way more wordy than I think she needs to be. 950 pages? Really? And we're at, what, 7 books in the series now?I'm at the point where I'm not sure if I'll pick up the next in the series. If I do, it'll be awhile.
Erin that is exactly why I have not started that series. Too long! If it were like Lord of the Rings, and I knew it was only a trilogy, I might consider it more.
The Study series by Maria Snyder is really good. I've got the Glass series to start now. Third book for that is out this fall.
Briansgirl "Master Book Sale Huntress" wrote: "The Study series by Maria Snyder is really good. I've got the Glass series to start now. Third book for that is out this fall."The author of the study series belongs to my YA for adults group :)
There is a group here on GRs called Study Buddies and it's all about her Study series and she's a member and answers questions.

I'm reading Naked in Cyberspace: How to Find Personal Information Online. Very interesting. (I am an executive recruiter i.e. a Headhunter so learning more about finding people online helps me in my job--plus anyone who picks this book up will see how much personal info is out there on all of us!) I have two more books to read along the same line: The Invisible Web: Uncovering Information Sources Search Engines Can't See and The Extreme Searcher's Internet Handbook: A Guide for the Serious Searcher.

Aside from non-fiction, when I'm not reading a cozy, I like Linda Fairstein's Alex Cooper series and Kay Hooper's trilogies about the FBI Special Unit. Both are usually intense and excellent!
Dru wrote: "I will be starting Storm Prey by John Sandford"I love Sandford's "Prey" books. Definitely not cozies!
Well, I love UF and paranormal romance, so this week I've got a lot of book that I'm very eager to read. I've just finished
and I've got in my TBR
,
,
and
. My cozy books will rest a bit.

Janet wrote: "I love anything by Dorothea Benton Frank"Oh, I am with you there! I really enjoy her Charleston area books, Janet! We had to spend some time there when Katrina blew through inland. We stayed on Sullivan's Island and I was in 7th heaven wandering the area. Have you read 'Full of Grace'? I thought that one was quite different from her usual writing.
I really enjoy Marion Chesney writing as M. C. Beaton.Especially the Hamish MacBeth series. The Agatha Raisin series is fun too but I don't like the protagonist as much as Hamish.
And how about Carolyn Hart's 'Death on Demand' series?
She introduced me to so many other authors through those books - thanks, Ms. Hart!

I am about three quarters of the way through Phantom Prey and don't care for it as much as some of his others. If you like the mystery genre have you read Lee Childs Jack Reacher series, or Brian Haigs Sean Drummond or Robert Crais Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series?? If you haven't already done so, check them out and see what you think.

I love all of Marion Chesney's regency romance novels. I read all the series 15 years ago and still love them!
I ended up a little disappointed in
, but not enough to say I won't read Fire study. I'm also abandoning
I want to know what happens to them, but not enough to actually read all of that. Yikes. So I've started on
. It looks like it might turn out to be a bit grisly in the end, but that doesn't bother me.
Susie in KS wrote: "Just finished Baltimore Blues by Laura Lippman...but didn't really care for it."I have read this one before I too did not really care for it. I read another one of her books and had really enjoyed it though so I guess it just depends.
Susie in KS wrote: "Just finished Baltimore Blues by Laura Lippman...but didn't really care for it."I've tried 3 different books in this series and didn't care for any of them. I really wanted to like them because Laura Lippman is such a nice gal.

I have read Phantom Prey (out of sequence because it looked especially interesting) and enjoyed it quite a lot. Yes, I love Lee Child's Reacher series, and have made a start on Robert Crais' books. Haven't tried Haigs or Drummond yet.

I love Crais' books! Love him, too! He's a sweetheart! And nice to look at!
Yep, Crais is one of those guys who could soak his socks in my coffee - LOL. If you love Elvis and Joe Pike then the Jack Reacher and Sean Drummond books should be right up your alley. Reacher is the strong, silent kick butt and take names kind of guy while Haig's Sean Drummond is a JAG officer who is a bit of a wise guy (but funny). Vince Flynns political thrillers are good too. I loved Term Limits.
I have just read
I finished it early hours this morning! I highly reccomend it..I really enjoyed it. A different type of book for me, I will read others by the same author. Magicigal, a mystery, geat setting and characters, and a captivating plot..what more is there?! ;) I loved the writing style.

He's a staple at B'con every year and has such a dry wit. I'm not familiar with the Sean Drummond books. Do you read Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch books?
Oh yes. I love Connelly's Bosch books and I am really partial to his Mickey Haller/Bosch books like The Brass Verdict and the first one (The Lincoln Lawyer). Understand there is a new one with Bosch/Haller coming out this October called REVERSAL.Have you ever seen the TV show CASTLE? Connelly, James Patterson and a couple of other REAL authors appear on the show occasionally as participants in Rick Castles monthly poker game. It's a hoot when they offer their opinions on the latest "crime" Castle is working on.

Picked up The House on Mango Street today, am about 3/4 of the way through. It's different, the way it is told through a series of short vignettes.
You might also try Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series if you like political thrillers. Start with TERM LIMITS...I thought it was great......I read it a few years ago but it is still relevant especially considering todays political climate.
SINCE YOUR A CASTLE FAN AND ENJOY CONNELLY TYPE BOOKS DO YOU ALSO WATCH "BURN NOTICE"???? I LOVE ALL THE CHARACTERS, ESPECIALLY MICHAEL AND HIS MOTHER (PLAYED BY SHARON GLESS).
Sandie wrote: "SINCE YOUR A CASTLE FAN AND ENJOY CONNELLY TYPE BOOKS DO YOU ALSO WATCH "BURN NOTICE"???? I LOVE ALL THE CHARACTERS, ESPECIALLY MICHAEL AND HIS MOTHER (PLAYED BY SHARON GLESS)."Don't watch Burn Notice, but my husband does and likes it.

Kaye, that's an awesome pick. I hope you'll share your thoughts on the novel with us. Is it really as life-changing as people say it is?
