I think that the series' with fantasy elements like The Hollow and The Keys have couples with the men being good friends first with the women being unknown to each other initially. I think The Hollow series would be good for the friendship theme because it has particularly good male friendships and the men, who have been friends since childhood, are, for once, the basis of the story.
A couple more male friendship titles for those who prefer their fiction a bit more speculative:Theft of Swords is fantasy that almost feels more like a buddy cop movie but in a fantasy setting and with mercenaries as the main characters. It moves at a pretty snappy pace and has really fun banter; the friendship is less a theme than simply a constant, but it might fit the bill for this month.
And one on my to-read list that I might get to this month is Kings of the Wyld, which is about an adventuring band reuniting after their glory days are over. To quote a review in my library's catalog, "It's about friendship and bromance and fighting monsters in a band."
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is one of my favorite friendship books that happens to focus on male friendship (between Jim and Huck).

The same goes for Great Expectations, although I tried rereading that in the past year or two and just didn't get into it this time.

I just read the preview for this and I am loving it.

I love Michael Sullivan and have read some of this series, and why did I not think of this! Thanks for the reminder!

Finally! That someone took my suggestion. Joi, I do hope it lives up. A lot of us PBTers have loved it. It certainly perfect for friendship and two of your moderator is Anita and Nicole have read it five stars.
In YA and kids fiction friendship is a big theme. Boys girls and any other combo under the sunI think Fantasy keeps some of those values of younger readers and you can still find mixed friendships or male friendships that are positive and not always spiral into horror.
I loved the series Otherland by Tad Williams that has a set of characters with deep friendships. Also The Tripods have male friendship. Lord of the rend etc
Nothing like an end to the world as you know it to get your priorities right
In literature though, young adult male friendship tends to end in some act of violence.
I’m reading now Of Mice and Men. I don’t know the story, so no idea what’s to come, but I’m pretty sure it’s not going to be a cheerful ending
I'm really struggling to make a decision about what to read this month. Not sure why it's so difficult. Seems like it should be easy. Wavering between Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage: Stories and Our Souls at Night and Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine. The first two I have from the library so that's in their favor. I'm leaning toward something I can pick up and put down because I also have John Boyne's new book (and promised a review to get the arc) AND I want to try to get some more Man Booker nominees in . . .
Question? Does Mrs Dalloway count for this tag? Just finished reading this. Virginia Woolf’s book was all about a lot of multiple characters and with no plot, unless you count a social party of Mrs Dalloway as a plot. The end has a lot of friend stuff going on so that’s why I’m not sure. I think it might count for Friendship, but just want to make sure.

But there are over 150 pages of tags/shelves for this work, so it may be there ... somewhere.
Also, if you have a good faith reason for thinking that it fits "friendship" then you can definitely read it for this tag! However, if you are participating in the decathlon challenge, then it must be tagged "friendship" on GR to count.
