My book review: If you want a break from reality and just want to read something warm, friendly, and thought provoking read The Story of Arthur Truluv It was nice to take a break from HARD reading and learn about characters that care for each other and make an unconventional family. Now back to reality I guess.

I finished The Bean Trees for #10 - author who has published at least 10 books.*Katie - #3, 6, 9, 10, 12, 18, 19, 21 and #22 are complete and can be revealed! Do you want to check them off on the list so that everyone can see what is done, in case they can't access the Google Doc? I'm updating the #s on this post as we go today, since it keeps changing!

I´m reading/ planning to read a few books that could count towards different tasks, but they´re full so I´ll just count pages and audio book hours.
Today I read 4 books spread on 2 picture books, 1 illustrated children´s book and a graphic novel.
I don´t know how you feel about counting books shorter than 100 pages, but I´ll just follow the lead - this is my first challenge.
I also have two books with less than 100 pages left, but is it understood correctly that I can count the pages, just not the book as a completed book?
Currently reading:
The Lies of Locke Lamora (on page 185 when readathon began). Works for fantasy, part of series.

Planning to read Dallas København. Works for language other than English, and counts towards AtY prompt.
Another question: How do we count the pages in the "read 500/1000/2500 pages total"? I mean, do the first 100 pages also count in the next 200, or is it 100+200?

Hi Johanne - First Q- I'm not sure. Maybe Katie can weigh in. 2nd Q- Yes, count the pages but not the book. That's my impression also. 3rd Q- The first box is your 1st 100, 2nd is the next 200. So, you can add them up to get your total.
I finished Timebound, and will update when I finish Passing Strange (which is a novella - will that count for a short story?). I may also try We Have Always Lived in the Castle which counts for 7, 21, and 22.
Danielle - Great! I put Timebound down for #21 since the other options are done. Short story is already done. I think 7,21, and 22 are done also.
Team Update: We are doing terrific! For the unique prompts, we only need: 18- Thriller/mystery, which at least 2 of us are working on and 23- originally published in a language other than English, which Johanne is working on.

I´m still not sure I understand the page count. Today I read 385 pages (so far). So is it 100 for the first 100, 200 for the next and 85 left for the "500"? Or is it also 385 pages for the "500 pages pr person"?
Alright. The book I read for "published in august or september" is 64 pages (Da Mumbo Jumbo blev kæmpestor). If we decide it doesn´t count for #8, becase it´s less than 100 pages I found another book that´s been waiting for me since, tada, august last year where it was released! So in that case I´ll just swap some planned reading around and have an excuse to read that. (Rejsen til SELU it´s the last book in a series).

I see what you are saying now! I think we (me, at least ) are doing it wrong. The other groups are doing a cumulative count. So, if you have read 100 pages, each row would show 100. Does that sound right? Anyone else want to weigh in on this question??

Erika is also working on that one, so I think I´ll start reading my other book for "published in aug/sep" in case we decide the first I read is too short to count.

Hello Team! I have some answers on the Group Spreadsheet. Thank you to Johanne for asking about it, which raised the questions.1. The pages read are progressive/cumulative. For example, if you have read 100 pages, each box would have 100. If you read 300, you would have 100, 200, 300. I will adjust those numbers from what has been posted. It would be helpful, if each of you would post so I can check the numbers:

ATY books finished:
Audio hours:
2. For audio hours- either report audio hours OR pages read. Once you have the maximum audio hours, then start converting your audio hours to pages.
Sorry for the confusion! Please feel free to adjust your numbers if they are incorrect. I will do my best to record what has been reported.

Ira- Cool! Just record your total pages and add 1 book and ATY (if it counts). We only need one more category!
Today I read for 6 hours and finished one 368 page book.
It counts for both #18 (thriller/mystery) and #21 (female main character). It's also an ATY book.

With my new understanding of the spreadsheet - I adjusted everyone's #s based on what I think you have reported. I have 2 questions:* Traci - Is your total 405?
* Erika - Is your total 300?
*Katie - I don't know how to report yours since you maxed out the audio. I deleted your 576 pages and will let you figure out if you want to report pages that go beyond max audio hours!
If the numbers are correct, then we have 2500 pages!

My recommendation is Hyperion by Dan Simmons, this book is the first of a duology, and its tell us the history of some " pilgrims" that they have to travel to a planet for a mision. For that, aach one had tell us his history. And each history the autor use diferent narrative style, and sub-genre of sci-fi, and I really like this.About the poem, I going to looking for one. I haven't read a poem any since my school days.

I don't normally listen to audiobooks but I just started one The Death of King Arthur: A New Verse Translation so I'll try to get in 7 hours so we can wrap up the audiobook tasks. It will take me a few days, though.What a weekend of reading everyone! Great job!
My recommendation is The Fifth Season and the entire Broken Earth trilogy. In my opinion, her historic win of three Hugo Awards in a row was well deserved. Earth is almost unrecognizable - the loss of the moon has caused seasons of earthquakes and their after effects that keep the population low and relatively untechnological. Some people have developed special abilities to quell earthquakes but they are despised by the rest of the population.
My total as of right now is 483 pages. 347 of that was yesterday.
For my poem I read “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou.

I discovered audiobooks a few years ago, and while I can only listen to certain types and definitely prefer paper books, I love them for commuting, cooking, and cleaning.
The poem I read: Natural by Nayyirah Waheed.Book recommendation: My biggest surprise this year has been The Door by Magda Szabo. It's not about much, but the characters are amazing and my bookclub and a few other friends I've recommended it to have loved it.
I've been gone all day, but it looks like you got all of your questions answered, Pam & Johanne. The pages & audiobook hours are cumulative. I don't think we should count books less than 100 pages for a book prompt, but should definitely count those as pages read.I listen to all audiobooks, so I'll convert some of my extra hours into pages for our tasks. I'm sorry we have no other audio listeners here & you have to choose one for that prompt, Pam. But thanks for doing it!
Katie- It’s not a problem! I just have to not listen in bed with my eyes closed because I fall asleep! I found something I’ve been wanting to read and the narration seems good. My eyes get really tired from too much reading so listening is sometimes a nice break.
I’ll update the w/s in the morning! Looks like we are close to finishing already. Keep on reading and look for the new game tomorrow!

I finished Small Country by Gaël Faye, 183 pages. It would be good for the prompt that’s for originally written in another language. I will go update the spreadsheet now! Next up, I think I’m reading Her Every Fear by Peter Swanson. I think there was a thriller prompt that it would fit into.
I’m listening to an audiobook now. Should finish tomorrow or the next day.
I listen to audiobooks on my way to/from work and will definitely slot my 5 hours. I will read the other book I had for 'august' due to first book's length (Katies answer). It might take me a couple of days (due to work and a meeting on son's school). But I will definitely finish it way before the readathon ends.
Ooh Ira, I'm glad to see that as your recommendation. I've been low level wanting to read it since it came out, mostly because the cover & title are both fantastic. Fantasy isn't usually my first choice for books, but I'm glad to see that one is worth reading.
My recommendation is Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie. It's a modern day retelling of Antigone about a Pakistani family in London. It won the 2018 Women's Prize for Fiction, if anyone is still looking for something to read for that prompt.Another favorite I read this year was A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles, which had great characters and charm. It was set in a hotel over a 40 year span and you really get to see the characters grow & develop.

Yay! I’m glad to see there are some other audiobook people! I listened to 1 hour last night. I’d like to second 2 of the recommendations - The Wolves of Winter and A Gentleman in Moscow! I read both of them this year. Keep the recommendations coming! 📚📚📚
Recommendation:I want to recommend The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. It´s a a slightly different science fiction about a society living on a planet they call "The New World". I can´t reveal too much, but it ´s about how societies develop when they are isolated, and humanity as such. It´s heartbreaking, thoughtprovoking, gruesome, and at the same time heartwarming and shows friendship and caring despite the odds.
