I've only done two Read-A-Thons, but they didn't announce a winning team either time. I think it's more of an internal competition to see how much we can accomplish by the end of the period within your team.

No one will judge you on how many you read for your team! It's just a fun way to interact with other people in the group. There are side challenges posted every day, though, if you just want to participate as an individual. At least, that's how the past couple were set up.

Kathy E | 3334 comments I'm not sure if it's happening this read-a-thon, but in the past there has been an individual game board.

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I need a mojo-kickstart, so I'll join in!

1. What is your estimated reading speed (slow, medium, fast)? Medium
2. How many books do you usually finish in a week? On average, about three a week.
3. What genre do you read the most? Classics & non-fiction.
4. Which country do you live in? Switzerland
5. Are you reading in order for the AtY RC? Yes
6. Will you be reading books for the AtY RC during the read-a-thon? Yes
7. Can you commit to checking in with your team frequently during the read-a-thon? Yes

Liz | 516 comments So it sounds like there is no pressure for this. Participate in games if you want, but it’s fine to just set individual goals & read as much as possible. If that’s the case, I have no problem keeping my signed up spot. Thank you all! :)

message 55: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 639 comments Yes - and you can change your estimated reading speed to suit your upcoming week. Normally I’m a fast reader, but I said medium for this one since I will be busy. They will balance out the teams.

message 56: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments I was thinking not participate because lately I have not been reading so much, but maybe this is what I need to get on the road :)

1. What is your estimated reading speed (slow, medium, fast)? SLOOOOOOW
2. How many books do you usually finish in a week? None lately, but I can read one, even two if they are page-turner, and at least four graphic novels.
3. What genre do you read the most? Fantasy, YA
4. Which country do you live in? Norway
5. Are you reading in order for the AtY RC? No
6. Will you be reading books for the AtY RC during the read-a-thon? I have too!!! I am doing just half challenge and I am behind!!!! :'(
7. Can you commit to checking in with your team frequently during the read-a-thon? Of course.

Everyone pretty much beat me to it, but as a general idea of the read-a-thons:

Team challenges don't have any sort of competition between teams. In the past, teams haven't had an issue completing the challenge in the allotted week so there's little pressure. It's just about the teamwork and reading as much as possible. Some prompts are easier than others and everyone should have plenty of opportunity to contribute as much, or as little, as they want.

Yes, there will be another individual challenge. There will also be games posted every 24 hours.

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3851 comments Thanks Laura for the explanation! This is my first time participating so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

message 59: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1585 comments I never feel like there is any judgement in the groups I have been in, everyone is just having a good time trying to read what they can and playing the games. I would join in if you think you can get some reading done it seems like a nice way to get aquatinted with some of the people in our lovely group.

Liz | 516 comments Thank you for the explanations & input. I’m officially in then. 🙌🏻
