If you want quality self-published books, you should take a look at the SPFBO contest organized by Mark Lawrence.

The good thing is that most bloggers post their reviews here on Goodreads as well :)

I'm still reading Kings of the Wyld in ebook. I also started The Poppy War and Tooth and Claw 'cause I was too excited to read 'em.

In audiobook, I finished Last Dragon Standing, which closes the Heartstrickers series. A bit slower than I would have liked, but still a very good ending to what is now one of my favorite Urban Fantasy series EVER. It was such fun listening to this, and the narrator (Vikas Adam) did a wonderful job :)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Jade City, which was great, and started The Poppy War, which promises also to be great.

Finished Dragon Prince. Rated it 3 stars. Even though I enjoyed the court politics and intrigue, I found the story somewhat slow and boring at times. I may read the rest of the series. I can't make up my mind. So. with that, I'm starting Legend. I'm really loving this so far. Kind of has an "Alamo" feel to it.

Finished Assassin's Fate, oh I cried, so much. I must've been dehydrated by the end. I had to keep stopping to compose myself. It is such an excellent ending to the whole series - all 16 books.

Plus the cover Assassin's Fate (The Fitz and the Fool, #3) by Robin Hobb

Heartbreaking, right? This book left me a slobbering mess...
The cover is gorgeous! That's the UK version, right? I'll slowly acquiring the whole series in paperback :)

It is the UK cover. I have old paperback covers on all of her books, except the first two of this set - audio. But the new covers are so exquisite, i just want them.

Dehydrated and I probably lost a stone from the salt. So sad. But outstandingly brilliant too.

message 59: by Holly (new)

Holly (goldikova) I like to know that the series is complete before I start one. Probably why I waited so long to read Assassin's Apprentice. I'm down to the last couple chapters now.

I really enjoy Robin Hobb's writing. So glad I finally got around to it.

I saw this pic on a review of Assassin's Fate:

And then I HAD to have the entire series.

noelle (viciouscirce) I'm reading An Unkindness of Ghosts. I'm switching between ebook and Audible and the audiobook narration is really good.

Finished Legend and giving it 5 stars. It is now in my top ten favorite fantasy books. Going to try and squeeze in The Forbidden Library before The Lions of Al-Rassan.

Heh... I didn't like Legend that much. Not a bad read, but not really my thing. Glad you enjoyed it, though :)

I went on a little vacation (which involved LOTS of reading :D) since my last update. So...

Finished Kings of the Wyld (very, VERY fun!) and The Poppy War in ebook. I'm around 3/4 of Tooth and Claw, and started Blood of Elves, which is a bit boring so far to be honest :p

Still churning through Kate Daniels in audiobook. Got #6, and I'm currently reading #6.5 (short story).

message 69: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished The Poppy War, which was excellent but hoo boy, not a cheery book, and started Hard in Hightown, which I expect will ultimately be much lighter.

message 70: by Al (new)

Al Burke (alburke47) | 41 comments Just started City of Lies by Sam Hawke

message 71: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I finished Age of War last night. It was really heartbreaking, but still so good. I'm still not over it, but I'm moving on and reading The Obelisk Gate.

message 72: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Hard in Hightown and Allan's Wife (the latter an 1880s Allan Quatermain story by H. Rider Haggard) -- they were both quite short -- and started Darkness Weaves, the first of Karl Edward Wagner's novels of Kane -- classic 1970s Molly Hatchet album cover airbrushed on the side of a panel van sword & sorcery.

I love Michael J. Sullivan as an author.

Ditto! His writing improved so much since the first Riyria book, it's crazy! And he's really interacting with his readers/fans...
Really one of my favorite authors :)

Finished Blood of Elves and Tooth and Claw, which was absolutely delightful. I'm really loving the Fantasy of Manners subgenre so far; witty, subtle and funny!

Also finished listening to Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels #7) and... Wow! So many things happened! My favorite book of the series :)

How does Tooth and Claw compare to the Heartstriker series? I know both are about family politics with dragons but I don't know much about Tooth and Claw.

Just finished The Forbidden Library and I loved it. Gave it 5 stars and I plan on finishing this series early next year. IMO this should be read after Harry Potter for those who like this kind of fantasy. Now I'm on to The Lions of Al-Rassan.
