Opening couple of chapters I have to say it feels difficult to get my head around what they’re doing. Nina seems to have no issue with her ‘job’ so I don’t see why things are so different with this case.

Up to ch7. Very strange family set-up. Feel sorry for Nina, though she’s as much part of the problem as her mother.

Up to ch18. I’m having to detach myself from this slightly to not be too put-off by the content. Definitely not for the squeamish, though most of it is left to our imagination. Still reeling from the fact her mother did this!

Up to ch26. Reyes doesn’t encourage any sympathy, but that was hard to read.

Up to ch31. For a moment I thought Nita might succeed. That is what I suppose you’d call a setback.

Finished. Dark, but actually found myself enjoying this in spite of the subject. Review on home page. Surprised by the ending.

Review: This was an extremely interesting read. It was not like my usual books so that was a plus. But it's also why I didn't give it a 5 star.

Nita was a very interesting character. (view spoiler)[I'm almost certain she some kind of psychopathy or sociopath. Her mother and father too. I wonder if the parents were like that naturally or it has something to do with their ability to manipulate their bodies? Actually can Nita's father do that? I know for certain her mother can but I can't remember if her father could since he was only ever mentioned not seen.

I'm sad he died. I really hope Nita catches the bastard(s) that did it.

I wonder where her mother is?

Will she connect with the boy again? Will they end up together? I'm wondering if Nita can even feel love. Her parents made her pretty warped.(view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

I just finished chapter one and there is something about it that I am not liking. I don't know what it is and maybe it will go away once I keep reading.

I got a jump start on this one and still only managed to read about 20% in two days. I agree that there is something very... lackluster about it right off the bat. I think it's the writing style.

Ch. 1-7

(view spoiler)[ I feel like I was just dropped into this world and not much is being explained. It's compared to This Savage Song, but so far doesn't hold a candle to it. The monsters in Schwab's book are explained right in the beginning and the world is very descriptive and easy to visualize. But I can't make any sense of this world they live in—how close it is to contemporary society, what the creatures look like, or what they do that makes them stand out from humans if they look human like Nita and her mother. This book seems like a very quick read though, I flew through what I already read and I'm sure there will be action scenes coming up too.
