Gary McAvoy (garymcavoy) May I add my own new book for inclusion here? A meticulously-researched new take on the Clutter family murders featured in Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood": And Every Word Is True by Gary McAvoy.

I don't have any objects given the way our True Crime section works. If any of the members object, I'll listen to their concerns.

Added.

Barbara K I don’t seem to be able to stay away from recommending true crime books, but I just read the NYT review of The Last Stone: A Masterpiece of Criminal Interrogation and I can’t wait to read it!

I've added this to the list, however, I can't find a paperback release date for the US. It's available in Canada, UK, and Australia on May 6, 2019.

Oh, good one. I read The Lost Girls: The True Story of the Cleveland Abductions and the Incredible Rescue of Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, and Gina DeJesus by John Glatt, it was a fascinating albeit horrifying story.

MaureenAnn Jannene wrote: "I just finished Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI and it is fantastic."

Thanks for the recommendation, Jannene, it looks good and is an award winner. I'll ask Gem to add it to the list here if its availability is good. It's certainly available in paperback and Kindle in the UK. I think it has a slightly different title in the UK - Killers of the Flower Moon: Oil, Money, Murder and the Birth of the FBI.

Kirsten (kmcripn) | 29 comments I'm in the middle of Beneath a Ruthless Sun: A True Story of Violence, Race, and Justice Lost and Found which is excellently written. (The audiobook is well done too.)

It's very hard to listen to. (Dogs are treated like they treat African Americans in this book.) But the book is excellent. Just not the lightest fare.

Thanks for the recommendation Kirsten - this is an award winner too. Unfortunately, in the UK, it does not seem to be in digital form and the paperback is very expensive - surprisingly the hardback UK one is much cheaper than paperback. I'm not sure if True Crime nominations need to meet the same availability criteria as the other categories - that's a question I will have to ask Gem.

Hi Suzy, thanks for this info. When I get a moment, I will take a look and see what can be added to our nominations list. I think that I need to create a NY Times account to look at the article.

I'll be interested if you need an account to access. Here in the States we get 10 free views of articles a month with the NY Times.

message 70: by MaureenAnn (new)

MaureenAnn Hi Suzy, I created a free account and it's given me access and says that I have 9 more views available (per calendar month?). The article is very interesting and I've done a copy and paste job to a Word document so that I can refer to it and check the books mentioned for availability outside the US.

A few of the books it mentions are already on our nominations list. Thank you again for this very useful resource.

message 71: by Suzy (new)

Suzy (goodreadscomsuzy_hillard) l'm glad you were able to access, Maureen. Yes, it's 10 free articles/month for non-subscribers with the NYT. I noticed some of the books were on the list. Looking forward to seeing what the next TC read is in the group.

Sorry, I'm behind a bit, we read Killers of the Flower Moon in June 2018, so it's not yet eligible for a reread. I'll make a note to add it back to the nomination list for July 2020.

The paperback release date in the US is March 2020, there isn't an Australian release date as yet so that's subject to change. So I've added it to the nomination list for April 2020.

I can't wait to read this one!
