Sonja (sonjac) | 1364 comments Fran, glad you liked your picks and didn’t mind my rambling! 😁 I’d love to buddy read Nerd with you, but I unfortunately have to finish it in the first week of August as it’s due back to my library by the 8th! I’ll have to mail it from Seattle tho cuz I’ll be traveling then. So LMK if you can buddy up then!

I'm not sure when I can get to it, how about we just chat about it when I get done. I can let you know in this thread when I finish it and we can tell each other what we thought of it.

message 111: by Nancy H (new)

Nancy H | 1111 comments Hi RomanticBookworm,
I just finished A Useful Woman and it was so good that I had to start the sequel right away. I love it when the heroines are women who are strong, powerful women who stand up for themselves, knowing how to make their way in the world. In this series, the main character, Rosalind Thorne, does just that, even though there is a love interest who would like to sweep her off her feet and take care of her. A Useful Woman (Rosalind Thorne Mysteries #1) by Darcie Wilde

Thanks for such a good pick!

message 112: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 328 comments I just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. Lisabeth Salander (the actual girl with the dragon tattoo) was a fascinating character. Glad I finally scratched this one off my list.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson

Right now I'm working on Circe by Madeline Miller. This book is, like, Cinderella on steroids. Poor Circe's family is evil as hell.

Circe by Madeline Miller

I just started Ladies' Night by Mary Kay Andrews.

Hey Fran! Glad you got two down so far! I'm on hold for the first book in that Naughty Princesses club series, At the Stroke of Midnight (The Naughty Princess Club, #1) by Tara Sivec and can't wait!

I also read Nerd in Shining Armor over vacation. It was alright enough to be entertaining though I thought the writing a little uncomfortable. Let me know what you think if you get to it! Interested to see what else you get to this busy month!

Sonja (sonjac) | 1364 comments Hi Carrie!
I've made it through one of your fab picks so far, but mostly cuz it was due back to the library first, Nerd in Shining Armor (Nerds, #1) by Vicki Lewis Thompson .
Solid 3 stars, mostly for light-hearted reading!

I've got several more on deck for this month and hope to get them all done over the next 15 days - EEP!
Close to You (Fusion, #2) by Kristen Proby , Taking a Shot (Play by Play, #3) by Jaci Burton , Bridget Jones's Diary (Bridget Jones, #1) by Helen Fielding .

I'm also on hold for
On the Island (On the Island, #1) by Tracey Garvis-Graves , Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop , Neanderthal Seeks Human (Knitting in the City, #1) by Penny Reid and The Reader by Bernhard Schlink , though to be fair, I might just buy The Reader as my mom wants to read it as well! If I don't get them before the end of August, they'll be top on my list for September! :)

Just finished my 5th pick. You picked The Rosie Effect for me, but per PFM rules, I believe I can read the first in the series if I haven't read it before. So I read The Rosie Project instead.

The Rosie Effect (Don Tillman, #2) by Graeme Simsion ==> The Rosie Project (Don Tillman, #1) by Graeme Simsion

And let me say I LOVED it. Thanks for the awesome pick!

message 125: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6545 comments Hey Carmen!

I loved

I liked
Anyone But You by Jennifer Crusie and Heat of the Moment (Out of Uniform, #1) by Elle Kennedy

And I though these were so-so, not really for me, but good books nonetheless-
One Thursday Morning (Diamond Lake #1) by T.K. Chapin and Axel (Corps Security, #1) by Harper Sloan

I hope to read more picks this month, but so far great picks- thanks!

Laura..devouring books like crumpets (lauzacookie) | 1331 comments What I managed this month

1. Circus of the Damned Brilliant horror/ uf I am loving this series, it had snakes in it this time so eebie jeebies.....

2. The Darkest Pleasure loved the way the story is progressing, cant say I'm overly keen on Dannika though, she swaps sides quicker than a tennis ball at Wimbledon.

3. Daughter of Asteria I felt a bit cheated with as it rehashed loads from first book.

4. Twisted Gems I loved this brilliant ending to the saga, a lot happened at the end that was incredible wish it wasn't so rushed.

5. Never The Bride had me howling will definitely be continuing with this series.

6. Around the World in 80 Men loved the concept and off to Scotland next so should be entertaining

7. Immortal in Death this series is just incredible each story so unique

8. Twice Bitten is a reread but on Audio this time love it my all time fave UF series.

Cry No More was the only book from your picks at my library, I'm so sorry I could not DNF just cant do books involving babies and children.

Thank you Alexa for taking the time out and making such a fab selection had a great reading month xxxxxx
