"The biggest thing was the way she did magic.. and casting a spell by weaving, twisting, or pinching these threads of color together over an enemy to make a cage for lack of a better word. I sorta think she might have been living in a bog/or thick woods with her teacher and companion. if it was a series I didn't read the rest of the books.
I hope I'm not thinking of another book... but I recall a bog creatures or something like that, and they had to walk/run thru the bog on planks in the trees to get to the wizards home (and to stay out of the water)"

Nope, I did google that.. thank you so much for trying.. this book is more of a lighter book, not dark magic or sci-fi..

These probably are not your books... but author Melanie Rawn has an (older) fantasy series, starting with Dragon Prince, that features characters who can weave light, specifically threads of sunlight, to cast spells. Ther are called Sunrunners. It's a great fantasy series (with a lot of romance, but still). The magic system is interesting. Anyway, thought I'd mention them, since you talked about magic & threads of light.
