The thing is that a certain member of my family tends to comment on my book buying ("have you bought books AGAIN?? You already own way too many books, you don't need new ones!" Seriously, one can never have enough books, right?) so I try to make as few orders as possible so it's less conspicuous...

Haha, everyone knows that there's no such thing as ''too many books''. My boyfriend also comment on my mailing like "There's a big envelope/parcel for you, I guess it's a book. Again." But more in a cheerful, mocking way.
Do you buy your books new or used? Do you have an insider webside to buy used, english books? ๐

Yeah, reader prpblems, right? ๐
I usually get them new. I'd love to buy more used books but Rebuy somehow never has the books I want to read next ๐ I'm so jealous of all the people living in english speaking countries (used bookstores, library sales, better access to used books online...)
Sometimes you can get good deals for used books on Amazon.
Do you know a good website for used books besides Rebuy?
Yeah I get that issue with my dad and it doesnโt help Iโm in the midst of a job hunt so I shouldnโt be spending much but I have laid of the book buying and I made sure not to go over board do yeah
Ahdam wrote: "Yeah I get that issue with my dad and it doesnโt help Iโm in the midst of a job hunt so I shouldnโt be spending much but I have laid of the book buying and I made sure not to go over board do yeah"Yes, for me it's my Dad as well. My Mom is a reader too but she reads mostly e-books so he doesn't notice how many she buys.
I try to keep my book buying reasonable as am not really swimming in money either as a student. The good thing is that it keeps my owned tbr relatively small ๐
Good luck with the job hunt!
My Dad reads as well, that's one of the reasons I buy some of my books im german so we can swap. :) I convinced him to read Robin Hobb, he's currently reading the Live Ship Traders.I buy most of my books used, because they are cheaper and I don't mind if they aren't new.
I also buy from amazon and rebuy. Medimops is actually the same. I really like booklooker, but most of them are also german.
Do you read more english or more german books?I really should hunt for used books more often...
Do you have a german edition of Liveship Traders? I couldn't find one because apparently there's only an old translation that's not published anymore. My Mom would like to read it because I made her read the Farseer Trilogy and always keep talking about how Liveship Traders is even better :)
I want to read more book in english to read the original work, but still I end up reading a lot of german books, because I'm too lazy and I need to concentrate way more while reading english books.Hmmm, no I've got the german audiobooks for Liveship, but Farseer and Fitz and the Fool as german books. Fitz and the Fool was also hard to get because they weren't published anymore, but there are new editions now (of course after I already bought the expensive old ones ๐ ), maybe for Liveship too?
Raimwild and Fitz and the Fool II, I own in english, so my Dad won't be able to read them... Maybe I will tell him what happened in the end.
Yes, there is a new translation of Farseer. I'm hoping that Liveship and Tawny Man will be translated and published again. It's such a shame that Robin Hobb's books are hardly available in german!I started reading in english because the last Malazan books are/were not yet translated. I read Robin Hobb pretty soon afterwards (again, no translation) and then kind off stuck with it :)
Sometimes I share german books with my Mom, though.
Hope your Uni frazzle gets sorted out somewhat to everybody's satisfaction. Doesn't look too hopeful an outlook, from what you say. You may just have to lump it.Still, hang in there....one way or another Bea.
(view spoiler)["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Thanks lovely! I love autumn and autumn pictures :)So far we couldn't really sort anything out, sadly. Apparently it has also been decided over the head of a few of the professors who now aren't that happy with the situation either. One of the professors is now offering additional places, so I still have hope that I will get one.
So since it's ok to post random things on a tracker, I'm gonna do that too ๐I finally managed to unhaul some books! Do you guys know that feeling when you haven't touched a book in years but still think 'maybe one day I will reread it' knowing that that one day will never come?
Anyway, now I unhauled 40 of my old YA and childrens books and finally have a bit more space on my shelves again, yay.
Most of the books went to the children of my mom's friend and and now the friend told us that she found her kids snuggled up together in bed at 5am and the older one was reading to the younger one (who can't read yet). That's so precious <3
Same here which I why I've restricted myself buying physical copies although I did cave and bought some graphic novels after a frustrating time with the trains making me miss some important stuffI may need to do that someday but hopefully when I get some money I hope to get a new bookshelf in my room
I don't have enough room for another bookshelf.I try to just buy books I'm really interested in (well, most of the time^^). Right now my physical Tbr is bigger than I'd like it to be. I have around 40 unread books at the moment, which I know isn't a lot compared to how many books some people own but I'd like to reduce it to around 20 books again in the future.
I have always used my tracker to post random things - it's the best way to share things you want to talk about or tell your friends!

That is definitely precious ๐คฉ
I generally donate mine to the library. I don't have a bookshelf so I have only 8-10 permanent books at home which I have to fit in my cupboard.
Bea wrote: "Do you guys know that feeling when you haven't touched a book in years but still think 'maybe one day I will reread it' knowing that that one day will never come?"Why no! I still believe the unbelievable! *hugging my old books* ๐
But you are right, giving them away is much more reasonable and it's great to see others enjoy them. I sometimes take them to the elderly home I work at on weekends. Last year I even discussed one of my old favourites with a man living there :)
But your story is especially cute, I hope they enjoy all your books!

I like the thought of having only your absolute favorites on the shelf. On the other hand, a big book collection is equally nice (or even better ;) )
I will probably donate the rest of the books to a charity bookshop that uses the money made from the books for social projects :)
Our library doesn't accept book donations any more...

Right? It's so hard to let go of books!
Aaw, that's also cute. My grandparents don't read anymore because they have sight problems (and they stubbornly refuse to try audiobooks).

It's so much better to have a large library! It's just that I have this weird allergy to old paper so I can't keep a lot of physical books within 4-5 years I will not be able to touch them.
I have to rebuy my favourites every few years.
So, it was God's greatest blessing for me (after my little brother) that ebooks were invented!
Oh wow Kari you would hate my collection! I have some books over 100 years old! XDEven just my normal fiction books, a lot I buy used so they're quite old.
I really struggle with giving up books. I was thinking about having a purge this week and unhauling some but I chickened out...! I can trade them in for store credit at a used book store, so last time I did have a purge I replaced them all with more books haha.

Oh no! Allergies are so annoying.
This reminds me of our neighbor who loves cats but unfortunately is highly allergic to them.

Haha, I can already see what's going to happen after christmas. My grandma usually is pretty generous with the christmas money which is usually splurged on books ๐
Hm, I should start Season of Storms but I'm not really motivated since I felt a bit meh about the last Witcher book in the end. Also, I'm really enjoying The Emperor's Blades so far and I'd rather read that one o_o

You should stop Emperor's Blades and read it in January instead, it's important to start your Buddy reads in time! And that's the only reason for my suggestion! ๐
But honestly I think it's better to read something you really want to read instead of forcing yourself to read something different.

You're not suggesting this out of selfish reasons? ;)
Yeah, I agree. I believe Virginie hasn't started it either. Maybe I'll be more motivated once she does.

Of course not! But I heared germans are very punctual, so we don't want to disappoit someone ๐
I just wanted to say a miracleish has happened. My allergy has gone - poof! I volunteered at this book event with second hand books and I was sure I will have to keep taking anti allergics to cope but I didn't have to take even one. There was a lot of dust and I have a bad cough from so much of it.
Someone once told me that my allergy was stress related psychological and looks like that person was right!

You would have loved the collection here - there were so many first editions - I did not take those because I anyway will donate my books - but some of the fellow volunteers who are building up their library had a field time collecting those and hardcovers!

I did get 48 books (one duplicate by mistake) as remuneration for the 4 day book sale I volunteered at.
I posted a picture on my tracker - go see!

Oh! Sounds like the whole sale was worth it! :)

I'm here to motivate you! Sorry again for going silent on our Witcher BR! I'm actually quite pumped for Season of Storms even though the ending of Lady of the Lake was indeed 'meh'. It's somewhat of a prequel after all, so I'm hoping for lots of (view spoiler)
Virginie wrote: "Bea wrote: "Hm, I should start Season of Storms but I'm not really motivated since I felt a bit meh about the last Witcher book in the end. Also, I'm really enjoying"
Thanks! Yeah, I still want to read it, I just needed a little break in between the books.
Maybe I'll start tomorrow.
I got the next two books of Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne today and really want to start The Providence of Fire now :)
I believe the chapters in this one are shorter, right? Makes it easier to read next to other books :)
Yup! They're really short, so I'm planning on 2 chapters a day (around 20 minutes, I think). With little breaks for my weekly reads, the whole book should take me 2 weeks exactly :)
Tracker is finally up to date again! :)I'm not planning to do a lot of BRs in December and January because I have a big exam in February that will take a lot of time.
My big projects for 2019 are Malazan and Wars of Light and Shadow so I've added the first BR-dates for these two series :)
Oh, good luck with that exam! And there's a Buddy Read for Curse of the Mistwraith? What a funny coincidence, I found the german copies of the books on yard sale last week. And because they were really cheap and I remembered Laura's praise for the books, I bought them :) I might join you then.
Thanks! It's a lot to learn and it makes up one fifth of my master grade (so it's kind off bad if I f*ck it up) 0_0Yes, on 15th February (two days after my exam, haha). I bought the first book used this summer but have postponed reading it so far because of the buddy read next year.
Yes, come join us! :)
So i was scrolling through my notifications and thinking how I love this group because it helps me feel connected (I had a rough day) and then I saw your thread title "book hugger's counseling" and it's the most perfect thing ever :-)

You better not be counseling people away from book hugging, like that's a problem that needs fixing ;)
