Brave New World
The Handmaid's Tale (I don't know why this would be neurodiverse!)

I will be reading Fairest, book 3.5 in The Lunar Chronicles, which is a 'bridge' book between Cress and Winter. If I can I will also squeeze in The Power.

I’ve read all of the principal Lunar Chronicles books in the last month - just finished ‘Winter’ yesterday. I enjoyed them a lot, especially ‘Cinder’ (probably because the ideas and personalities were fresh, though I also think the writing had a slightly more mature tone than in the others). They’re good fun, and I like the twists on the fairy tales. Will be interested to hear what you think about ‘Fairest’. I’ve done my dash for the time being but will come back to the .5 books if they are good enough.

I am trying to finish The House of the Spirits for MR and then I will be diving into Red Clocks!
Also, my book club meets tomorrow night to discuss The Power. I finished it a few days ago—5 stars and a favorite!—but am waiting to write my review until after my meeting. I am hoping that discussion with brilliant women will help me work through my thoughts...because I have a lot of thoughts. lol

Hannah, you could continue onto the next Oryx and Crake book (if you liked it)—The Year of the Flood

I don't see how GoT could be dystopian, since it is set in a fantasy world..."
Yeah someone said it was but I really don't see how it is ether. I'll probably finish it before the end of June anyway. I have Cloud Atlas though and I'm really looking forward to it!

Will there be a thread for those seeking buddies to read with?

Will there be a thread for those seeking buddies to read with?"
Critterbee, check out the Decathlon Announcement thread at: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
There is some discussion there of what people are interested in reading and I have a feeling that you might start seeing some threads dedicated to specific books pop up in the Footnotes folder as at least two people decide on a book (I just posted one for Red Clocks)—you can jump in on any of those as well!

Jen, I think you read it to. What do you think knowing that I like to interpret the tags pretty narrowly?

From the description, Nicole, I would put it firmly in sci-fi. If it was set on Earth, I might see wiggle room for dystopian, like Asimov's Caves of Steel, but even that for me is sci-fi.

I was leaning that way too based on the description, but over 350 people tagged it dystopian so I thought maybe there was something in the book that leaned that way that wasn't reflected in the review.

I think that is what Ill end up doing. Or I do have The Girl With All the Gifts on my list but I thought that was a horror book, do you all think it fits this tag?

Welcome, Olivia! Nice to see you jumping right in!

Looking forward to hear what you think of Artemis, Olivia!
I enjoyed Artemis well enough, I think because I tried to read it on it's own merits, not as another book by the author of the Martian.

Welcome, Olivia! So glad you found us and have already identified your read for July. Excited to see your review and hope you will feel free to ask questions along the way if you need any assistance orienting yourself to the group.

Thank you! I was lucky enough to have some books that fit the next moths tag so i didn't have to think too much about it.

Hi Anni and warmest welcome! I read that one and liked it a lot. Hope you do too!!

Welcome Anni-Happy reading!

I'm reading The Power now, and probably New York 2140 and The Lathe of Heaven later in the month.

Several of the books I had been looking at turned out to just be post-apocalyptic, but I think I finally found a good one: The Wikkeling. When the first few pages of a dystopian novel make you chuckle, that's something worth giving another look.

I'm new to goodreads, so I'd greatly appreciate any feedback.
Thanks!
Shane

I see no one has recommended it yet, but I highly suggest you read We. This is the novel that inspired Orwell to write 1984. It's a must read for those who want to understand the genre.

I love that book, one of my favorites. I wasnt a big fan of 1984 in school or during a recent reread. Probably because I read We first. I might reread it again its been a few years.

Thanks--I have never liked 1984 much, so I'm glad you liked this one better!

I agree. I found We to be a much better book than 1984.

Sara, there are a bunch of us reading this, so check out our buddy read thread! It is spoiler free at the moment, so you won't stumble across anything that will ruin the book for you.

Welcome Shane-not a dystopia fan, so no feedback-just hello and welcome!
