DHASG August Challenge

Introduction:

"August rushes by like desert rainfall,
A flood of frenzied upheaval,
Expected,
But still catching me unprepared."
-- Elizabeth Maua Taylor

That pretty much sums up August. Summer is winding down and fall is around the corner. Let's make the most of our last full month of summer.

Rules:

1. Any member of the DHASG can participate in the challenge. Sign up at any time during the month of August, and post your beginning and final stats when you're finished.

2. A book may only be used once in the challenge.

3. Books must be read during August 1st and August 31st.

4. Have fun!

Levels:

1. All-nighter: Read 8-11 books
2. Weekend Bender: Read 5-7 books
3. Playing Hooky: Read 3-4 books

Categories
:

1.Eight is enough!: In honor of August being the eight month of the year, read a book that signifies this number eight in any of the following ways: eight letters in the title, author's first or last name (or combination of both) is eight letters, main character's name has eight letters. Or even choose the book that is the eight book in a series or the eight book published by the author.

2. Admit your happy!: Happiness is a state of mind, so read a book that makes you happy, or has a character who is determined to be happy no matter what, or has a sunny disposition regardless of what they face.

3. The last hurrah!: Summer is on its last legs officially. So read a book where the characters are experiencing their last bit of fun before going back to the grind or before moving on to business.

4. Romance Awareness Month: You can count any romance book you read for this challenge, because it's Romance Awareness Month!

5. A Friend is Like Sunshine: The first Sunday in August is Friendship Day. Read a book about friendship or featuring a strong bond of friendship.

6. Book Lover's Day: August 9th is Book Lover's Day, so any book you want to read counts for this one.

7.Marsha! Marsha! Marsha!: Middle Child Day (August 11) is for celebrating the angst of being stuck between an older and younger sibling. Read a book where a character knows how Jan feels living in Marsha's huge shadow with no help from sweet little Cindy. AKA, read a book about a character who is the middle sibling in the family.

8.Make me laugh!: For National Tell a Joke Day (August 16), read a book that makes you laugh (humorous).

9.The tooth fairy is real, right?: August 22nd celebrates the mythical (or is she) fairy who takes baby teeth and leaves money behind. Read a book with a mythical creature that may or may not be real, depending on the character POV.

10. Forgiving is Healthy: In honor of Global Forgiveness Day (August 27), read a book where the main character has to exercise the practice of forgiveness.

11. Is it hot enough for you?: Because the weather is hot, read a book that takes place in hot weather, has some really hot scenes (steamy), or has a main character with a hot temper.
