Bookworm with Kids This is the discussion thread for our June Monthly Group Read - After Me Comes The Flood by Sarah Perry.

SueLucie I've just finished this and it was a strange experience, like living a dream. Atmospheric is the word I've seen used most often to describe it and that is the best description I can come up with too. Certainly experimental and I thought some of her writing really good. I was struck by her thoughts about what being beautiful or not beautiful does to a person and its effect on other people.

This interview with the author on youtube is interesting, talking about how she wanted to portray different kinds of love.

And here are a few reviews I liked

I would have liked to give it 3.5 stars, but since I think it has been underrated on goodreads I have bumped my rating up to 4. I'm looking forward to reading what anyone else thinks about it.

Barbara (bdegar) | 4626 comments Thanks for the links. I read Savidge Reads review as I tend to agree with his evaluation of books. My copy arrived this weekend. I was working so didn't check the mail til this morning. I have to finish Days Without End for my book club tonight (my second reading) and a couple of other books I'm in the middle of.

Donna McCaul Thibodeau (celtic_donna) | 1150 comments I just finished this and for me it was a two star read. I never felt engaged with any of the characters and it felt like it took forever for anything to happen. In fact, I kept reading hoping that something would happen but it never really did. Not for me. I liked The Essex Serpent much better.

SueLucie It is very much a first novel, isn't it, Donna? Given that I enjoyed The Essex Serpent, it hasn't put me off reading anything new she publishes.

Donna McCaul Thibodeau (celtic_donna) | 1150 comments I feel that way as well, Sue. Would definitely read more of her work.

Colleen | 1205 comments I finally got my copy in the mail so I will be reading this next . I haven't read The Essex Serpent

Barbara (bdegar) | 4626 comments I started today but only only a couple of pages into it.

Bookworm with Kids I have opened the Spoiler thread here:

Colleen | 1205 comments I am about a third of the way thru and I find it interesting . I find it creepy and weird which makes me want to find out where it is all leading .Hopefully I will finish in the next couple of days.

SueLucie I'm pleased you're enjoying it so far, Colleen. Looking forward to hearing your final verdict (and Barbara's too) .....

Bookworm with Kids I agree with you, Colleen. Creepy is the word I would use to describe this book after the first 75 pages.

Barbara (bdegar) | 4626 comments I just posted my review - 2 stars (2.5 but I wasn't inclined to round it up). I'm going to the spoiler thread because I have some questions.
