(view spoiler)[ Oh man, I am loving the writing in this so far. I am in love with Eelyn. She is frickin bad ass. The writing in this so far is creating a great atmosphere. I wish there was just a little more world building? Like I am picturing the the scenery because of from what I've seen of the Viking's show. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 11-19
(view spoiler)[ So far not a huge plot line, mostly just character development and slice of life stuff. Which I am not minding in the least!! The character dynamics are so good. The author is doing an amazing job writing Eelyn's emotions and making me feel them. I am very much appreciating all the characters in the novel so far. I am curious to how Fiske and her fall in love (as it is mentioned in the summary) because they are not very friendly. All Eelyn wants to do is go back home and figure out why her brother betrayed her here. I too really want to know more. I am really enjoying this book! And OUCH THOSE WORDS AT THE END OF CHAPTER 19. (view spoiler)[Slice of lifey, but I am in LOVE with the characters. There is a bit of drama sprinkled in. Things are finally escalating a little bit with Eelyn being left in the woods and Fiske finding her. I bet this is where their relationship escalates! Also oh man, finally getting some fighting again (I hope). (hide spoiler)]

Finishing (Chapters 26-the End)
(view spoiler)[Sky in the Deep was wonderful! I loved the books. After the Herja attacked, the plot finally picked up again! Uniting the clans, while this plot was extremely straight forward, the execution was amazing! Fiske and Eelyn are the cutest. I really enjoyed how their relationship evolved. I loved seeing the tender side of each character. They complimented each other well. The end battle was a little underwhelming. But I will let it slide because the book was so good. ;) (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Oh my gosh! Yes those words at the end of chapter 19 stung! Also the fact that he had a chance to go home, but chose not to was surprising. I wonder how hard it was for him to choose between Eelyn and their father and staying with Fiske's family and Runa.

Also, I feel like the plot was incredibly slow throughout these chapters, but you can definitely see the comparisons Eelyn is making to her people back home. I feel like she's definitely realized they aren't as bad as the stories make them out to be, but she hasn't accepted it because it would go against everything she was raised to believe in. Eelyn is slowing coming to feel something for these people. I loved seeing her fight again. I'm really glad she didn't die attached to that tree. (hide spoiler)]

Ch. 33 (view spoiler)[ I loved seeing Eelyn and Fiske work together to rescue Halvard. I'm glad Eelyn rescued the Tala as well, I might've left her there. I'm feeling vindictive and petty towards her so... Fiske is so clearly in love with Eelyn, I can't believe she doesn't see it. I like that there haven't been any love declaration yet tho. I wonder if they'll be able to unite the Aska and Riki against the Herja. (hide spoiler)]

Finally fucking finished argh (view spoiler)[ The pacing for this book was all over the place. I liked the story, but god it was so slow for the first half and too rushed for the last half. Also that last battle didn't feel very realistic, someone Eelyn loved should've died like Myra or Iri or her father. The ending was cute though-I definitely shipped Fiske and Eelyn (hide spoiler)]

You see your brother dead then one day he's fighting with your enemies and killing your people. And then he takes you to his village where you're made into a slave. Wow, poor girl. I'm excited to learn more about what happened with Iri. Also, I wonder if Eelyn will fall for Fiske? (hide spoiler)]

I was really worried that man was going to rape her and I'm so glad he didn't, that would be terrible. I can see Eelyn getting closer to Fiske, which I like. I started this audiobook this morning and I can’t stop listening! The perfect distraction from work today.

Ch1-12

I love books where you’re just immediately thrown into the action. In this one, you’re dumped in the middle of a fight between the Riki and the Oska. But who are these people? Why are they fighting? What is the land? So many questions!
And then she sees her brother in the enemies. Now just her brother, but her brother who has been DEAD for 5 years! I kind of knew that they would see each other and wasn’t that surprised that she got captured by the Riki because of course that’s how we will get answers about her ghost brother!
I am getting a little confused because we aren’t getting a lot of basic world building facts. Other than these two clans (?) despise each other and she would rather die than be part of the Riki.
I can’t really tell is she wants to get her brother back or just escape or what her plans are (hide spoiler)]

Ah ok some information! So the whole feud between the clans/groups is based on an argument between their gods. So typical! And now Iri lives here and has a new family. And honestly I don’t blame him... his own family left him for dead and they saved him. When Eelyn said she wished her brother had really died that day?!? Ugh the heartbreak. I am hoping for some more action... and the wham Eelyn gets taken into the woods! It’s clear that this family is starting to care for her more than just their duty. (hide spoiler)]
