Lindsey The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan is the third book in the series “The Heroes of Olympus.” Riordan and this series have been very popular throughout many years. Both my sisters were the first to read these fantasy fictions and even recommended them to me. This book is an adventure book Percy Jackson and his friends, a total of seven demigods, embark on yet another quest to travel to Greece and Rome to stop Gaea from awakening. Just like in The Son of Neptune, this book also focuses on the Roman mythology but at the same time includes Greek mythology that the first book in this series, The Lost Hero, and the series center on. One of my favorite parts about Rick Riordan’s style of writing is how he uses third person point-of-views from which the story is being told. This allows readers to truly understand and feel how those characters are in various occasions instead of just one. Many events are happening simultaneously, so the book bounces from scene to scene. The pace of the book is slow at the start but picks up half-way. Every hero has his or her critical role, and all their actions fit well together in the story. Just like that it was recommended to me, I would recommend this book to anyone. There is constant action due to many encounters the characters face to travel to Rome to retrieve a stolen statue of Athena. As in the before books of the series, The Mark of Athena also includes romance between many characters while they struggle to complete their mission. One will find a combination of fascinating mythology, bold adventure, elements of humor from the demigods, and captivating love stories in this book.
