message 155: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1976 comments I'm getting closer to done with both of mine! Lol. I picked a super long audio (18+ hours) so it's taking me longer than usual, even listening at 1.25x speed. I will probably try to switch to hardcover before I'm done so I can finish it faster.

And the only bad thing about rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (and probably the whole series) for me is since I've read them so many times, I don't fly through them as fast as I used to. But I think the BR points will still outweigh the slightly slower reading.

But, I should finish them both by the weekend, I think.

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments I added levitation charm possibility to my first book, Jackdaw

message 157: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments I used to be a fast reader, but I was spending too much time reading and not enough doing other things, lol. I won't have many long books read but will try for more over 161 pgs

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments Hey Jammin Jenny here from Team Draco Malfoy (fellow Slitherin). You should definitely jump on the buddy reads and BOM books if you like the books they are reading You'll get more points and our house standings will increase! You can also ask in the Buddy Reads thread if people want to read books you're reading and if you can get someone not on your team to join you'll get points.

message 159: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3330 comments We're doing great.
@Teresa every book counts, we will find a task for a book; pencilled your Jackdaw in for Levitation.

@ Abbie I've pencilled in Bennington Girls Are Easy for Herbology: Hardcover

Once we get the go ahead to post classes we can take a look at what we have.

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments Hey everyone :) Just checking in. I recently started meds a week and a half ago. I was feeling great the first week an the doc had me up the dose after the first week. Well, they kicked in today and I'm not feeling great. Going back to taking the original dose but I'm very much meh. I'm hoping to get some reading done with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, but it's hard to tell atm :/

Keep on going with your reading! You guys are doing fantastic <3

Louise | 3330 comments Update main post here with a summary of the classes.

The difficult classes seem to be:
•Charms - needs to be on the cover or in title show what we've mastered e.g: car and a flying car.
•History of Magic - 7 books that will make an essay
•Potions Part 3 - Colors, lots of them
•Transfiguration - Cover items changing one thing into another.

Other Classes
• Arithmancy we need a book with 651-800 pages and a book over 901.
• Astronomy higher page count books are best, 400pgs = 8pts, 500pgs = 10pts
• Care of Magical creatures: Body parts e.g dragon scales, must be on the cover
• Defence Against the Dark Arts - Books with titles to defeat/defend a Dark Art/Creature e.g Silver, Garlic, Iron
• Divination - books with prophecies/visions in; books with fortune telling tools being used e.g: runes; tarot; crystal ball
• Herbology - 2 dirt books/ 1 hardcover book/ 2 chick-lit books needed
• Potions - Check what you can cover

Snowtulip | 4679 comments I'm going to start Oathbringer this weekend, so we could use it for Arithmacy over 900+

I also have multiple books over 500 pages that have celestial objects (star and moon)...so I can take as many or little of these as we need.

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 544 comments Quick question - how do I count page numbers for audio books? Do I use the count for the hardcover edition?

Ghost in the Stacks Sharon wrote: "Quick question - how do I count page numbers for audio books? Do I use the count for the hardcover edition?"

You use the most popular edition...aka, the first version when you click on the book.

message 173: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1976 comments I'll be reading War Storm as soon as I finish Sorcerer's Stone, and that has 672 pages -- so could fit for that Arithmancy spot of 651-800 if we still need it.

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 544 comments Snowtulip wrote: "Sharon, how did you like The Child Finder...a recommend?"
I liked it - 4 stars! It started a little slow and I wasn't sure I was going to finish, but I powered through and ended up finishing the second half in one sitting. So I would definitely recommend and say to stick with it.

This is supposed to be the start of a series with the second installment due in October (I think). I'm looking forward to it as there were some unanswered questions from the first.

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments I finished The Enchanted by the same author and it was totally not what I was expecting and if I’d realized what it really was about I wouldn’t have picked it, but I’m glad I read it and I thought the writing was lovely. I don’t think I could read Th Child Finder though.

Snowtulip | 4679 comments So, do you think this pairing would work for water making charm

The Shimmering Road by Hester Young -dry grassland in need of water

AND

Braving the Rapids (Rocky Mountain Boys, #2) by Brandon Witt - tada, we now have water!

Trying to figure something out, do you think it fits?

message 187: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments Hey guys! I'm 2/3rds done with the third HP book. Making sure to get my comments in to count for the BR. I need to check when some of my library books are due back and try to hit those harder for the next few days until the Goblet of Fire starts getting picked up by other readers :)

To be honest, I haven't had much time to look at the classes, so I'm going to make sure I check those out this weekend and see what I can help out with. :)

I'm hoping the get Chamber of Secrets audio soon so I can continue with the re-read, but if the library hold takes to long, I can go back to my book. Really want to give audio a try for these though :)

Hopefully you're loving the re-reads!

Also been going through more of Sorcerer’s Stone and will hopefully finish that up tonight! I’m so slow on re-reads 😂

message 199: by M (new)

M Beal | 1680 comments I have picked up a book for Astronomy Class and it is a beast. I hope to have it finished by Monday.

On a side note. I started a new job (woo hoo for better pay) the downside is I will be out of the house longer every day. Apologies in advance if I am not on a often.
