Read a book in elementary school, so 1992 at absolute latest, possible Young Reader's Choice nominee that year, but not the winner. Involved a boy and video games. There may have been a gun on the cover of the book or possibly a video game controller. Something about playing this game cultivated hate. The tagline on the back of the book was "Respond to Hate." Maybe something about climbing a wall in the game? Though that's a stretch. The only thing I really remember about this book is the "Respond to Hate" tagline and hot pink font.
