Reading progress and surveys

I'm also happy with the post-readathon lap. Will participate in the summer challenge. From the looks of it, it will be tough - but I'll try

My Readathon Dates: May 11 - July 20
- Go to your local library, bookstore, freecycle book source, thriftstore that sells books, etc. Pick a book at random and check it out/buy it/adopt it. Read it.
- Get book recommendations from someone on social media. Pick 3 of those recommended books, get them, and read them.
- Choose a book with at least 300 pages, and a notebook/reading journal. Read the book, stopping every 20-30pgs to journal about your reading(pictures, quotes, reactions, etc.).
[DONE] Read a book published between 2020 and 2022.
Upheaval: How Nations Cope with Crisis and Change
- Read a book originally published before 1950.
[DONE] Browse the current world news. Choose a country/region/issue from the news that interests you. Find a book related to your chosen topic/location, and read it.
Upheaval: How Nations Cope with Crisis and Change
- Read a book set during a world war.
- Write and post a review for a book you enjoyed this year.
- Make a 6-book rainbow (stack up books with a red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple spine). Take a photo and share on social media. Then read those books.
- Read a book that was selected for a book club or group.
- Complete the 2022 Spring Readathon pre-readathon challenges:
CHALLENGE 1--SHORT STORIES-AUTHOR CHALLENGE
Read short stories by authors whose names begin with each letter of the alphabet.
CHALLENGE 2--ARTS CHALLENGE

Guards! Guards! - featuring a dragon
[DONE] CHALLENGE 4--READING SPRINTS & LONG LAPS

Thanks! I won‘t take part in the summer challenge, I have too many other books planned already, I won‘t be able to squeeze anything else in.

2 challenges done (with the same book, Upheaval: Turning Points for Nations in Crisis, one in progress (a bit of a stretch with dragon posing as a wild animal XD

Glad you made it Lamilla! Your book looks like it could hokd a reader's attention. . . . .Enjoy!

2022 Fall Readathon will begin October 22, and end October 23. Need to convert the time though

Welcome back Lamilla!

Later I might go either to The Last Great Mountain: The First Ascent of Kangchenjunga or some of the thrillers I own to keep the momentum

I took it from another thread here (and as I understand the poster also modified it, so now it might look nothing like the original version from... somewhere)
For some reason it was hard for me to concentrate on Stiff Upper Lip! I listened for 10 minutes so it counts for non-fiction line in bingo and hour 4 reading sprint.
After a short break I'm back to Hostage

There are bingo boards on Twitter and Instagram, maybe here too?

After a short ..."
How are you liking Hostage?
I listened to the dutch audiobook which was narrated by a utterly boring narrator. Did like the end though.

I might look for a bingo board, challenges usually make the readathon much more fun"
Yes I just snagged one from a readers thread too!

On one hand, it makes me to learn more about the day-to-day life of air hostess. On the other hand it touches so many heavy topics (spouse abuse, cheating, infertility among others) - I wasn't prepared for that...
Hope I'll like the ending too!

Good luck with your bingo board!
I'm starting the hour with Wolkenschloss for my bingo challenge "read in two different languages". I really enjoyed Kerstin Gier's YA and middle grade stories so far, and the language is very accessible for me
Wolkenschloss is translated into English and looks good for a readathon. I would be interested in knowing what you think of the book.

What are you reading right now? Wolkenschloss. I had this book on my audible shelf for years!
How many books have you read so far?
Three, Hostage, Stiff Upper Lip(only for about 10 mins) and Wolkenschloss
What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the readathon?
I hope to read a physical book as well, I have a couple in mind, starting with Лесница в небо
Starting The Supernova Era would be nice as well
Have you had many interruptions?
Yesterday I had breaks for walking my dog and snack breaks as well. Hopefully today will continue in the same vein

So far it looks similar in tone to her other works, following a 17 y.o au-pair in the swiss hotel. I had to rewind a lot, so I'm only 5% into it after almost 45 min of reading XD
Switching to Лесница в небо, will try to read to my dog as well... for the bingo challenge, of course!

Now, the next challenge - listening to a music while reading. Usually I read in silence, we'll see if it'd be another "10 mins is enough" thing ))

From the remaining challenges, the following look doable:
N:
- re-read
G:
- read a book with orange on the cover
O:
- read a book from a series

For the last sprint of the readathon I'm planning to return to Hostage again and maybe cover some of the challenges left on the bingo board

I read Lords and Ladies for the "book from a series" challenge, now back to listening to Hostage
I might have a post-readathon week or 10days of reading, like the last time. Would love to finish some of the books I've started

Closing survey:
1. How would you assess your reading overall?
I was very engaged during the hours that I participated in plus I manage to keep good balance with walks and snack breaks. Would prefer to read more, though
2. Did you have a strategy, and if so, did you stick to it?
Not really, just tried to find something interesting and tick the bingo board prompt. I had a huge TBR to choose from as well, including audible library
3. What was your favorite snack?
watermelon was very handy
4. Did you add any new books to your TBR/wishlist after seeing what everyone else is reading?
not this time
5. What was your favorite book or experience from this readathon?
I helped to cover for another person and hosted discussion on hour 2. Really liked the answers everyone shared
I also enjoyed visiting other people's threads and seeing how everyone approaches the readathon. Reading sprints worked for me this time as well

Vanessa, trying really hard not to forget what I learned!

Some prompts to help me going:
- finish 1 book
- read 50 pages straight
- read 100 pages from one book in one sitting
- finish an audiobook
- read a book by a familiar author
- read a book from a series
- finish 3 books
- read for 30 minutes without interruptions
- red for 90 minutes without interruptions
- finish 7 books

Making yourself read a novel in your second language is a good
way to retain it . I know some Russian ; enough to write a readable
letter but not enough to read a 300 page novel . You're awesome .

Thank you! It works the other way for me - my reading is still decent, however speaking and writing go away very quickly!

I am going to do that too.
See you in April for the next!
