I'm also happy with the post-readathon lap. Will participate in the summer challenge. From the looks of it, it will be tough - but I'll try

Thanks! I won‘t take part in the summer challenge, I have too many other books planned already, I won‘t be able to squeeze anything else in.

Welcome back Lamilla!

Lamilla | 818 comments I'll start with the Stiff Upper Lip, audiobooks usually make a good start for me.

Later I might go either to The Last Great Mountain: The First Ascent of Kangchenjunga or some of the thrillers I own to keep the momentum

Lena | 364 comments Happy Readathon Lamilla!!

I might look for a bingo board, challenges usually make the readathon much more fun

Lamilla | 818 comments I had a break to walk my dog, now back to Hostage. I would like to listen to a couple of more chapters before moving to something else

Lamilla | 818 comments Vicki Willis wrote: "I like your bingo board! Did you make it yourself or is it a challenge here somewhere?"
I took it from another thread here (and as I understand the poster also modified it, so now it might look nothing like the original version from... somewhere)

For some reason it was hard for me to concentrate on Stiff Upper Lip! I listened for 10 minutes so it counts for non-fiction line in bingo and hour 4 reading sprint.
After a short break I'm back to Hostage

message 173: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments I read for about 40 mins in total for hour 4 sprint.

Now off to a break with some meat dumplings

message 174: by Lamilla (new)

How are you liking Hostage?
I listened to the dutch audiobook which was narrated by a utterly boring narrator. Did like the end though.

Yes I just snagged one from a readers thread too!

On one hand, it makes me to learn more about the day-to-day life of air hostess. On the other hand it touches so many heavy topics (spouse abuse, cheating, infertility among others) - I wasn't prepared for that...
Hope I'll like the ending too!

Lena wrote: "

Good luck with your bingo board!

I'm starting the hour with Wolkenschloss for my bingo challenge "read in two different languages". I really enjoyed Kerstin Gier's YA and middle grade stories so far, and the language is very accessible for me

Wolkenschloss is translated into English and looks good for a readathon. I would be interested in knowing what you think of the book.

message 181: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Mid-readathon survey (better late than never)

What are you reading right now? Wolkenschloss. I had this book on my audible shelf for years!

How many books have you read so far?
Three, Hostage, Stiff Upper Lip(only for about 10 mins) and Wolkenschloss

What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the readathon?
I hope to read a physical book as well, I have a couple in mind, starting with Лесница в небо
Starting The Supernova Era would be nice as well

Have you had many interruptions?
Yesterday I had breaks for walking my dog and snack breaks as well. Hopefully today will continue in the same vein

Lamilla | 818 comments Cynda wrote: "Wolkenschloss is translated into English and looks good for a readathon. I would be interested in knowing what you think of the book."
So far it looks similar in tone to her other works, following a 17 y.o au-pair in the swiss hotel. I had to rewind a lot, so I'm only 5% into it after almost 45 min of reading XD

Switching to Лесница в небо, will try to read to my dog as well... for the bingo challenge, of course!

message 183: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 1654 comments Mod
XD Maybe the novel will improve. . . .

message 184: by Lamilla (last edited Oct 23, 2022 03:25AM) (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments I think reading for 10 mins is enough for the challenge and my dog, who slept through it XD

Now, the next challenge - listening to a music while reading. Usually I read in silence, we'll see if it'd be another "10 mins is enough" thing ))

message 185: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments I need a break ))
From the remaining challenges, the following look doable:

N:
- re-read

G:
- read a book with orange on the cover

O:
- read a book from a series

message 186: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments I listened a bit from Supernova Era for the challenge "a book with orange on the cover". The story is dystopia, looks intriguing. I really enjoyed The Wandering Earth by the same author

message 187: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments i had a break - walked my dog, had watermelon as a snack. Now I'm back to listening to Supernova Era

message 188: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Supernova Era starts very strong, enjoying the story very much.
For the last sprint of the readathon I'm planning to return to Hostage again and maybe cover some of the challenges left on the bingo board

message 189: by Emma (new)

Emma | 168 comments You're doing so well on the Bingo! I might have to try it next time. Enjoy the last hour!

message 190: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Thank you Emma!

I read Lords and Ladies for the "book from a series" challenge, now back to listening to Hostage

I might have a post-readathon week or 10days of reading, like the last time. Would love to finish some of the books I've started

Lamilla | 818 comments Some stats

Books started: 4
Hostage
Supernova Era
Wolkenschloss
Лестница в небо

Books finished: 0
-

Continued reading: 2
Stiff Upper Lip
Lords and Ladies

Closing survey:

1. How would you assess your reading overall?
I was very engaged during the hours that I participated in plus I manage to keep good balance with walks and snack breaks. Would prefer to read more, though
2. Did you have a strategy, and if so, did you stick to it?
Not really, just tried to find something interesting and tick the bingo board prompt. I had a huge TBR to choose from as well, including audible library
3. What was your favorite snack?
watermelon was very handy
4. Did you add any new books to your TBR/wishlist after seeing what everyone else is reading?
not this time
5. What was your favorite book or experience from this readathon?
I helped to cover for another person and hosted discussion on hour 2. Really liked the answers everyone shared
I also enjoyed visiting other people's threads and seeing how everyone approaches the readathon. Reading sprints worked for me this time as well

Vanessa, trying really hard not to forget what I learned!

message 195: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Since I still have the books to finish and it worked so well last time, I'll do a post-readathon lap starting today %)

Some prompts to help me going:

- finish 1 book
- read 50 pages straight
- read 100 pages from one book in one sitting
- finish an audiobook
- read a book by a familiar author
- read a book from a series
- finish 3 books
- read for 30 minutes without interruptions
- red for 90 minutes without interruptions
- finish 7 books

Making yourself read a novel in your second language is a good
way to retain it . I know some Russian ; enough to write a readable
letter but not enough to read a 300 page novel . You're awesome .

Thank you! It works the other way for me - my reading is still decent, however speaking and writing go away very quickly!
