Welcome back!

message 353: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Well my Readathon has already hit a bump in the road. I've been quite unwell today which means we've had to change our BBQ plans for my brother's birthday to tomorrow instead. This means it will take me away from the readathon for a big part of the day.

Fortunately I was planning to do this one low key so I'll count any reading time as a bonus.

I'm hoping to finish On the Road and make some progress with Dark Fire so if I do that I'll be happy.

A low key readathon and a nice BBQ sounds good! Enjoy, Kate!

message 357: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Thank you all! I've made a slow start and read 22 pages of Dark Fire. Hoping to get On the Rod finished next as I borrowed that from my brother and can return it to him at the BBQ!

Kate | 646 comments I've finished my first book. On the Road I gave it 2 stars. It was a struggle, I'm glad I had the readathon to boost me to finish it. Now back to Dark Fire which is a much easier read.

Kate | 646 comments So my wrap up for the reverse readathon:
Not as full on as normal partly because I was ill the day before so our family BBQ moved onto readathon day. But I managed to meet both my targets. Firstly to finish On the Road and secondly to make progress with Dark Fire.

Total time read: 3 hours 34 minutes
Total pages read: 111
Total books finished: 1

Not bad considering everything thats been going on.

I too was not quite up to par. I suspect you like me enjoyed participating anyway. We can each hope for a better readathon in October.

Not bad at all! And I'm always for a BBQ lol

See you in October hopefully!

Kate | 646 comments Hi Everyone, I'm just taking a look at possibilities for October 2022. I have a couple of books in mind:

To finish:
The Historian
I'm currently reading this and as its about 700 pages I won't have finished it by the readathon so this one will be on the list. Thankfully its pretty easy to read so I'll enjoy pressing on with it.

Graphic Novel:
Deathnote I'm on a second read of the series so I'll pick up which ever book I'm at when the readathon starts. Nice to revisit a familiar story.

Audio:
The Empire I'm currently reading the hardback but expect to have finished that by the readathon. I'll follow it up by listening to the audio but it will depend on whether I can get an audio CD in time.

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova Death Note Black Edition, Vol. 1 by Tsugumi Ohba The Empire by Michael Ball

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Hi Kate, good to see you back to participate!
Would love to read Deathnote (the first anime I watched and I loved it), but my library hardly has any graphic novels unfortunately…

message 367: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Hi Susy, nice to see you too!
Deathnote is a brilliant series. I have a copy of volume 1 I can send you if you like. I'm on Bookcrossing and its registered there. (www.bookcrossing.com) Send me a PM if you're interested.

Kate | 646 comments I've added a couple of extra options to my TBR pile so now it looks like this:

The Empire (to finish)
The Historian (to finish)
The Earthsea Quartet (to continue with book 2)
Death Note, Vol. 3: Hard Run graphic novel
Phantom Prey

The Empire by Michael Ball The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova The Earthsea Quartet (Earthsea Cycle, #1-4) by Ursula K. Le Guin Death Note, Vol. 3 Hard Run (Death Note, #3) by Tsugumi Ohba Phantom Prey (Lucas Davenport, #18) by John Sandford

Its my sister-in-laws birthday on Saturday so I'll be doing some family stuff but I hope I'll get to read to my 3 year old Nephew and clock up some pages and time that way.

My usual goals are 500 pages and 10 hours but we'll see if I get anywhere close to those. As long as I get to finish The Empire I'll be happy.

message 370: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments I’m reading book 3 of the Earthsea cycle. There are another 3 books but I’m not sure I will continue…

I'll see how I go with book 2. I've got the quartet but if there are more I'm not sure I'd seek them out!
I look forward to seeing what you make of book 3.

Hahaha, let's say it's not my kind of writing style, a bit too flowery and "poetic" lol

message 375: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Only 2 hours to go and I've just got back from the shops with snacks. And none of them are healthy! lol

BBQ Pringles with sour cream & chive dip (I guess I could add carrot to make it healthier)
Chocolate Cornflake crispy bites
Mini chocolate rolls
Croissants (low fat)

Diet coke
Coffee

I have a chicken pasta salad for lunch and probably pizza & coleslaw for this evening.
As it's my sister in laws birthday there is also the Pavlova I've made for her and no doubt there'll be birthday cake too!

Now on with some household chores before I settle down with The Empire for the first sprint.

Happy readathon everyone.

Well, the croissant is low fat. The coke is diet. Chocolate helps concentrate and feel good, so is definitely healthy. Chicken salad is also very healthy. So yeah, I see loads of healthy stuff. And besides, it's DEWEY'S TIME! So main goal is having fun!

message 381: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I've been a bit rubbish with my check ins this time round.

I had a great start and read about 3 hours across the first 4 hours.
I've also finished The Empire which was one of my goals. Plus I read 3 kids books to my 3 year old nephew so my books finished stats will be awesome! lol

I'll be doing an hour sprint in hour 22 reading some of The Historian and then hopefully finishing Death Note, Vol. 3: Hard Run during the final 2 hours.

message 382: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 823 comments Congrats on reaching your goal with The Empire! Keep going
