SOLVED. YA fantasy book, circa 1998? About an alien race that comes to earth, they look like blue horses and they're trying to save the universe? [s]

I read this book when I was around 12, so 1997-98? I could be wrong, I read a lot as a youth. The cover had a picture of an blue alien that resembled a furry horse. There might have been planets in the background, not sure. The store was about the alien needed help from a group of teenagers to save the universe? I believe the aliens were telepathic and I know they definitely ate through their hoofs. I remember a scene where they were on the alien ship and the aliens were disgusted watching a young girl take her shoes off to climb a tree, they thought she was pulling off her hoofs. I also remember one of the aliens driving what I think is a mustang and him thinking it was the coolest thing, they didn't have cars I guess where he was from. He was driving in the desert trying to get back to his group and drinking I believe coke through his hoof. Other than that I think the bad guy was trying to get something like the Omega 13 device to control the universe? I was going to use this book as my influential book of my youth in a class but...:) any ideas are welcome, thanks!

Sounds like one of the Animorphs books. The Andalites are sort of centaur like with blue fur, telepathic abilities, and it’s been a few years, but I think they eat through their hooves.

That is part of the animorphs universe, however, it is a prequel series called the Andalite Chronicles. It was one of my faves!
