I like Penny and her "coffee" brown hair, a good color XD. I'm interested in Bo, why is he really in Sparrpw and what made him come. I can't wait for Penny to unravel the sisters' mystery. At least Hazel was able to stop the cycle of drowning. It's super creepy that their bodies floated to the surface like that. Also I'm not sure how I feel about Penny and Bo's relationship. The Sea

I'm curious about the Orange cats, her friend Rose, her tea leaf fortune, and her missing dad. It's interesting the town is called Sparrow (a type of bird) and the sister who were hung as witches is the 1800s last name was Swan (another bird). A coincidence?

It's odd that the town celebrates these sisters with a festival every year in their honor and the teens have Swan parties in period dress.

A death every summer seems ominous. Is it a ritualistic payment of sorts that nature or someone has to fulfill? Maybe I'm way off.

Definitely has the Hocus Pocus feel. It's already radiating magic. I'm so glad I pre-ordered this book & got the edition with stars under the dust jacket. It's so pretty! (hide spoiler)]

Bo has to be the boy from Penny's fortune. I'm calling that now.

After hearing the full legend of the Swan sisters it seems like they are Sirens. Since boys drown every summer it makes me wonder if that's what happened to Penny's dad and if it will happen to Bo.

When I read pg. 34 "Forcing a girl to do anything she doesn't want to is reason enough to kick your ass,..." I was like YES!!! This dude is super awesome and he gets bonus points for saving Penny from that situation.

I was also really glad when Penny FINALLY gave him the lighthouse job. She was right to be leery of him at first but she knew he wouldn't have anywhere to go.

When the sisters' song starts I couldn't help but think of the Sanderson sisters and "Come little children I'll take you away..."

It rains a lot in this book. I think if Bo meant to harm Penny or her mom he could have done so that first night when she was drunk and her mom had no clue about him yet.
Her mom's gift of knowing when people are near is cool but it's so sad how she waits for her husband. 💔

Toward the end of this section Bo seems shy but also odd. Like he was really interested in how the boys died a little too much. But maybe it's just morbid curiosity?

He still hasn't said what he is running away from. Sketchy.

Oh my God! Penny is Hazel! I started really suspecting her when she said she had never seen the fruit as anything but tart before but then had a memory of The or hard with ripe fruit and sweet and salty air. I figured the author had incontinuity but this was genius.

It was fitting that Hazel's sacrifice ended the curse.
She did the right thing & ended the killings.
I do wish there was some closure about Penny's dad now that we know what really happened but I'm glad Penny won't know about Hazel. I loved that she left Penny the good memories and that Penny's mom finally healed. Bo is a good man to stay with Penny. Good book! Kept me guessing & had a happy ending. 😊 (hide spoiler)]

I love the ominous and mysterious atmosphere to this book so far. I like the main character, Penny, so far, and I hope we find out what happened to her father. I also really want to know more about Bo, and what actually drew him to Sparrow. Why would he not want to leave after hearing about the weird and deadly town curse? (hide spoiler)]

I can't believe I didn't even think about the possibility that Bo's brother could've died in Sparrow. It would've made total sense as to why Bo was visiting. I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING! How did I not see that coming?! The book revealed that twist so nonchalantly too that I actually had to reread that paragraph again. Hazel being Penny makes sooo much sense. However, I find Hazel and Bo to be so cute, and now knowing that they might not be together is devastating. Despite liking Hazel, I'm not okay with her permanently taking over the real Penny's body. (hide spoiler)]

I was really hoping that it wasn't Hazel who killed Bo's brother, but I knew that was going to unfortunately be the case. It is kind of unbelievable that she was all into drowning boys until this most recent summer. Not much time for someone to change. The fact that she also killed Penny's father is unforgivable. With this revelation of the truth, I no longer like Hazel, but at least she did the right thing in the end… 200 hundred years late, though.

I really enjoyed this book. It was such a quick read that I was trying to pace myself so that I wouldn't finish it too quickly. The ending was good, although I wish Hazel could've just left and not lingered like the last few pages suggested. Let Bo and Penny's romance be! (hide spoiler)]
