Such a great idea! Thank you for the opportunity you gave us. Can't wait to see which one we read next!

I agree, I loved the OSS poll the last time it was done!"
I especially love that this time we could add additional books!
What a great idea! All of those books look very interesting though, going to have to check out all summaries to decide which one to vote for.

I suggested Charles Dicken's Bleak House. The story is narrated (majorly) from point of view of a young orphan girl.

A lot of great choices! Thank you for such a diverse list. I know one thing, even if my choice was not picked I have a lot of new titles to read on my own!

I wish there are more books by Asian author or books about feminism in Asia. I have very limited knowledge about them.

Emma wrote: "What makes that book feminist? Sounds interesting."What I like about the book is that it is not meant to be a feminist book. Charles Dickens wrote this book between 1852 and 1853. The female characters, along with Esther the main protagonist, play an important role in the narrative, which makes it relevant to our group. Here are a couple of quotes from the book:
"...that the idea of woman's mission lying chiefly in the narrow sphere of home was an outrageous slander on the part of her tyrant, man."
"I knew I was as innocent of my birth as a queen of hers and that before my Heavenly Father I should not be punished for birth nor a queen rewarded for it."

PS this is a huge novel, about a thousand pages. But the depth of philosophy far surpasses the length!

Didn't we already read Mom & Me & Mom? Why is it being recommended again?
Daring to Drive would be a good choice. It would be something that the first world might not be able to relate to; in terms of cultural and religious blocks for women; the challenges and obstacles; looking at life from a different perspective. Isn't that what this book club is about? To learn and improve societies? Just my two cents opinion.

Flowers in Salt: The Beginnings of Feminist Consciousness in Modern Japan
I haven't read them so I can't personally vouch for them, but I found them after coming across Kanno Sugako in The Little Book of Feminist Saints (which in and of itself is wonderful) and wanting to learn more about her. They seem really interesting and I'm planning on reading them at some point.
Also, I know we've read Persepolis, but I just read another of Marjane Satrapi's graphic novels about life in Iran, Embroideries, and thought it was great.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm interested to read Flowers in Salt, from the description it says there will be comparison between women's role in Japan and in America and Europe. That's what I am curious about. Feminism is universal, but is feminist movement in Asia will be exactly the same with the ones in America, Europe or Africa.

Is the book of the month announced, or is it the one with the most votes?
Meelie wrote: "Julie wrote: "Thank you Meelie!"Very welcome! It's been a while since we had a poll and I briefly forgot how they worked :p oops!!"
Yeah, it's been a while... Polls mean there are so many great other books to read. *sigh*

Is this the one we're actually going to read this month? Can't wait to start it already!
Yay! I can't wait to start reading this - off to get my Kindle copy right away!MeerderWörter wrote: "Polls mean there are so many great other books to read. *sigh*"
My thoughts exactly - many of the books in the list look awesome and I even got some of them for my Kindle already. I love OSS! <3
Hello everyone!! :) Just to be clear, are we reading "The hate u give"? I have to buy my copy overseas so I want to check with you guys first! :)

Hello!
Just like Meelie mentioned, an announcement will be made probably soon. I cannot speak for the other but there is a high chance that the book will be "The hate u give" but we may be surprised, maybe two books will be on the bill (to me all of them are!^^), who knows.
However, I did not wait the result (I blame my impatience :p), I already started some of the suggested books.... I just could not help it.... oops!
Have a great one!

Great!! Thanks for replying :) I understand your impatience as I'm really impatient as well, been refreshing the page all day to see if an announcement had already been made haha.
Have a nice week! :) xx
The book that got the most no. of votes is available on Kindle in my region, which is great! Waiting for the Official Declaration of the Book for the Months May / June by the Powers That Be :)

I'd be very excited to read The Hate U Give so fingers crossed it'll be officially announced soon. Good thing we've got two months to read it :)

Hooray! My suggestion won (I think)! Does this mean we'll be reading "The Hate U Give"?

I have read None of the Above four times by now;)
Haven't read any of the others yet tho, so very looking forward to checking out some of those...
Carla wrote: "Hello everyone!! :) Just to be clear, are we reading "The hate u give"? I have to buy my copy overseas so I want to check with you guys first! :)"Hi, Carla. :0)
Are you from Argentina? I'm from Brazil and there's a portuguese translation for this book with the title "O Ódio que Você Semeia". And doing a little research I just found out that there's a spanish version too, maybe you can find it in your city. The title is: "El Odio que Das", published by GranTravesía. I hope you can find it. Waiting for a imported book can be frustrating.

Hi Tatyana!! (love you name) We're almost neighbours :) Thank you so much for the information, I don't know why I assumed it wouldn't be translated so didn't bother to look it up.
I know some people from my country buy books from book depository and it may take almost a month for it to arrive, and that's a lot of time. Once again, thank you!! :)
I'm very excited for the announcement also! I'm new in the group so I can't wait to read along you guys :)
