The author, Peter Korn, turned his back on his family's wishes and become a carpenter and eventually a furniture builder. He has written several books and founded a school in Maine. In this book, he talks about the his journey as a craftsman and also musings on the role of a craftsman in society and why people do feel the need to create things.

Overall, this book was a bit dry for me. It was more focused on professional craftsman vs hobbyist. Personally, I feel as technology and media takes over more and more of our lives, we are losing the appreciation for crafted items. At least for me, one part of the crafting process is social --- getting together with other hobbyists and sharing a love of making things.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Sounds like an interesting topic... I should check whether there are other books related to it that might be more engaging.
