Nancy (paper_addict) | 812 comments Oh wow! That could be really good, if they don’t screw it up.

Lena | 2673 comments Wow. 🙏🏻🙏🏻please cast it well🙏🏻👍🏻

I will definitely watch this.. :)

Sarah I | 60 comments YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! After the disappointing news that Hill's Locke and Key was passed on, I'm so excited that this is actually happening.

Char | 17457 comments Sarah wrote: "YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! After the disappointing news that Hill's Locke and Key was passed on, I'm so excited that this is actually happening."

I saw that and it bummed me out. :(

I like this idea even better than I liked the idea of Locke and Key, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Char | 17457 comments Here's a fun game-cast the main characters:

Vic:
Lou:
Manx:
Maggie:

Who would be the best at portraying these characters?

Perfectly stated. I kinda would prefer it to be on Netflix or HBO so they could do it no holds barred.

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Ambitious for a TV budget (especially the finale), but I'm interested.

My feelings exactly. I'll definitely be checking it out.

I was thinking about this overnight, and I think AMC will do a good job. They are doing well with The Terror. HBO and Netflix are good for if there's a lot of sex or nudity, but there isn't with this story, so I don't see where AMC would be stymied. I would love to see it without commercials, though, so there's that.

Nancy (paper_addict) | 812 comments Well, it all depends on the screenwriting, how much they change and don’t change, the cast, the director, and how much money they put into the whole thing.

There was another cable network, can’t remember which, that had a really good adaption TV show. Then the next one, sucked. Like they didn’t even try. So I hope that doesn’t happen, but you never know.

Nicos | 123 comments I am glad they are doing a mini-series as opposed to movie for this. Definitely going to keep an eye out for it.

My vote for Manx: Tom Noonan!

I am actually OK with Locke and Key not coming to fruition. You would really need a huge budget to properly adapt it. I think comics are the perfect medium for that story. I think they COULD make a series based on the Keyhouse though! Make it an anthology series focusing on different keys and then have the stories intersect and overlap.

Ben | 4 comments The novel has been sitting on my TBR pile for ages. I might just go and pick it up know while expecting the TV show. I hope both will be good.

A series about Key House is a great idea! I looked up Tom Noonan and he does look good for the part.

What about Jennifer Lawrence as Vic?

I don't know about this. Zachary Quinto is not really a Charlie Manx to me. I hope I'm wrong.

Atlanta (dark_leo) | 271 comments I’m 75% through the audio book, it’s an unpleasant book in parts, wonder how amc is going to handle the nastiness.

I think it looks good but of course trailers always have a tendency to do that. I'm glad it's premiering in June and not have to wait until fall.

He definitely has his own voice though there are a few similarities. Sometimes there are references to his father's work in his books.
For instance, there are mentions of Pennywise in NOS4A2.

I saw my first ad for the show last night. Looks amazing. Can't wait for it.

Angel | 2 comments Has anyone watched the first episode yet? I'm super excited but also nervous to watch because I loved the book so much. Trying to decide if I should wait until the season is done and binge it or just start now.

Don't feel bad, I did too lol

destiny ♡ howling libraries (howlinglibraries) | 317 comments I haven't yet, but I bought the episode on Amazon Prime Monday morning so I'm gonna try to get to it maybe tonight or tomorrow.

It looked really good, though it also looked like it no longer has anything to do with the book.

Yep, I read that The Terror would now be a series whose theme would change each year, the way American Horror Story did.

Lena | 2673 comments I had hoped they would keep her husband fat but I don’t see anyone, but the janitor, fat. I’m ashamed I don’t remember his name but he was such a good guy. This was his story too.

message 30: by Char (new) - rated it 5 stars

Char | 17457 comments She is still living with her parents right now, but I don't see anything about her husband listed as part of the list of characters. That's a shame because Lou was one of my favorite people in the back.

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments Lou was his name, if I'm remembering right. He was such a good guy. I don't think she's met Lou yet in the show. We'll see what happens but I hope they keep Lou true to his character in the novel.

message 32: by Lena (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lena | 2673 comments I did see the first episode. Lou, yes I think so. I thought the whole book was going to be a miniseries. No Lou at all, terrible decision.

WendyB | 5013 comments Mod
On IMDB, the character of Lou is listed for only one episode. I'm guessing he'll appear in the final one.

message 34: by Lena (last edited Jun 06, 2019 09:30AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lena | 2673 comments Lou Carmody, Yeah, I don’t remember him being black. Guess we’ll see.
In my mind her man was Chris Pratt in his fat Parks and Rec look.

Agreed! (I just started reading her latest autobio, How to Forget: A Daughter's Memoir, which she narrates herself.)

Yes, they turned it into an anthology series. The second season will be about the Japanese internment camps, in the US, during World War 2. George Takei is starring in it.

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments The audio is magical. Kate Mulgrew was the perfect choice.

Char | 17457 comments Agreed! Her performance of it, (even though she mispronounced Haverhill), was so good that it raised my rating from 4 stars to 5.

Yep, that bugged me too, haha. Other than that it was perfection.

jamako (jann1k) | 192 comments Oof. I'm at episode 5 now and am rather disappointed with the show. The cast is great but the writers clearly had some issues adapting the story for the new format. There is a lot of stuff that falls under the table and I don't like the rather tropey patchwork they used to stitch up some of it. Overall the show has a very different vibe to the book, less horror and much more drama and teenage angst. It's not a bad show by any stretch, it just isn't great either. I was really hoping for more from this adaptation - especially after seeing the early trailers.

Anyone else thoughts after seeing the first few episodes?

Yep. That's about right. The early episodes are also the better ones, for me, the show really took a nosedive starting with 5.

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments I’ve watched three episodes, and I liked all three so far. There are a few scenes I’m like what the hell?!?! Plus Vic is still young so are they going with that storyline?

Kate Mulgrew was an excellent narrator for sure. I really would want to read the book again.

Erin (ems84) | 9056 comments Not sure if I am really loving the actress who is playing Maggie. I looked up her credits and she has been in nothing else aside from this series. As a new actress, I'll give her some slack.
